bei der Gletscherschmelze
während des Quartärs den Fels
aushöhlten und Formen schufen,
die auch Riesentöpfe genannt
werden.

the thaw in the Quaternary period,
leaving regular cavities which
are known as marmitte dei
giganti, or literally, giants'
stockpots.
10 17 Colonia Pavese
La costruzione risale agli inizi del Novecento come albergo di
prestigio: il Grand Hotel Torbole. Le sue sale per alcune stagioni
hanno ospitato i soggiorni leggeri della Belle Époque e del
crescente turismo gardesano. Nel 1929 l'albergo è stato destinato
a preventorio della provincia di Pavia, la quale, con la parentesi del
secondo conflitto mondiale, lo ha gestito fino alla metà degli anni
Settanta. La struttura è ora patrimonio del Comune. Terminata la
radicale ristrutturazione verrà impiegata a servizio della comunità.
Der zu Beginn des 20. Jh. errichtete Bau war ursprünglich ein Luxushotel,
das Grand Hotel Torbole. Seine Räumen galten einige Jahre über als Treff
der damaligen Lebenwelt und des zunehmenden Touristenstroms am
Gardasee. Seine Lichter erloschen praktisch mit Ausbruch des 1.
Weltkriegs. 1929 wurde das ehemalige Hotel in ein Sanatorium für Tbc-
Kranke der Provinz Pavia umfunktioniert, die es, mit Ausnahme der Jahre
des 2. Weltkriegs, bis zur Mitte der 70er Jahre leitete. Heute ist das
Gebäude Eigentum der Gemeinde. Nach einem radikalen Umbau wird es
in den Dienst der Gemeinschaft gestellt.

This building dates back to the early 20 century when it was a prestigious
hotel, Grand Hotel Torbole. For a number of seasons, it received the
holidaymakers of the Belle Époque and saw tourism burgeon on Lake
Garda. The lights went out with the outbreak of the First World War. In 1929,
the hotel was given as a preventive sanatorium to the Province of Pavia
which used it as a location for holiday camps and, apart from the period of
the Second World War, managed it until the mid-1970s. The building is now
municipal property. Once the radical renovation work is completed, it will be
used for the benefit of the community.
