This was the seat of a prehistoric fortified village
and is mentioned for the first time in 1210. A
fiefdom of the Counts of Arco, it was contested in
the war between the Guelphs and Ghibellines
and, in 1438, fell to the troops of Erasmo da Narni,
known as Gattamelata. After various upheavals, it
was sacked in 1703 and burned down by the
French-Spanish forces of the Duke of Vendôme.
The rocky outcrop of the castle was fortified by the
Austrians in 1914 and equipped with artillery in
connection with the forts of Nago. Today it is
possible to visit the partially restored ruins and
enjoy the magnificent view over Lake Garda.
