14 Piazza San Rocco
La piazza porta il nome della chiesa
dedicata a San Rocco eretta a seguito del
voto fatto dalla comunità per la peste del
1512. La navata è stata demolita in seguito
a una bomba della prima guerra mondiale
e ora è visibile soltanto l'abside. Nello
scoppio è rimasta danneggiata anche la
facciata occidentale del municipio, poi
ricostruita da Giancarlo Maroni. Sono stati
qui collocati i busti dei martiri rivani e un
Cristo in ricordo dei caduti nelle guerre.
Der Platz trägt den Namen der San Rocco geweihten Kirche. Sie wurde
1512 als Einlösung eines Gelübdes zur Abwendung der Pest von den
Stadtbewohnern errichtet. Das Kirchenschiff musste nach dem Einschlag
einer Bombe aus dem 1. Weltkrieg abgerissen werden, und nur die
Altarnische blieb erhalten. Bei der Explosion erlitt auch die Westfassade des
Rathauses Schaden. Ihr Wiederaufbau lag in den Händen von Giancarlo
Maroni. An dieser Fassade befinden sich die Büsten der Märtyrer aus Riva
und eine Christusbüste zur Erinnerung der Kriegsgefallenen.
The piazza bears the name of the church dedicated to San Rocco and built
to honour an oath made by the community after the plague of 1512. The
nave was demolished by a bomb during the First World War and now all
that is visible is the apse. The explosion also damaged the western facade
of the Town Hall which was rebuilt by Giancarlo Maroni. In order to
commemorate the war dead, the piazza features busts of the martyrs of
Riva as well as a statue of Christ.
15 Quartiere del Marocco
Il quartiere a ridosso della Rocchetta, caratterizzato da vicoli
angusti e da case che conservano l'impronta artigianale e popolare
del passato, ha preso probabilmente il nome dai cumuli di frana
staccatisi dalle pendici del monte sovrastante. Degno di nota
l'elegante Palazzo del Vescovo nella piazza superiore dove si
trovano anche il vecchio lavatoio e un'edicola votiva dedicata a
San Rocco.
Der Name des Stadtviertels, am Fuß der
Rocchetta, ist vermutlich auf die Steinhaufen
zurückzuführen, die sich durch den Bergsturz
bildeten. Kennzeichnend für dieses Stadtviertel
sind die engen Gassen und die Häuser, mit der
typisch handwerklichen und volkstümlichen
Prägung aus der Vergangenheit. Erwähnenswert
ist das elegante Bischofspalais, am oberen Platz,
wo sich auch der alte Brunnen, der einst zum
Wäsche waschen diente, und eine kleine, San
Rocco geweihte, Ädikula befinden.
This quarter directly underneath the Rocchetta
probably got its name from the heaps of landslide
debris which came down from the slopes of the
mountain above. It is an area of narrow laneways
and traditional houses which were homes in the
past to craftsmen. Worthy of note are the elegant
Bishop's Palace in the upper piazza where you
can also find the old public wash house and a
little shrine to San Rocco.
