della città. Per
apprezzare la
magnifica vista che si
gode dalla sommità
bisogna salire 165
gradini, ma ne vale
sicuramente la pena.

Der ursprünglich im 13. Jh. errichtete Turm wurde
1555 aufgestockt und in den ersten Jahren des
20. Jh. neuerlich umgebaut. Bei diesem Umbau
büßte der Turm auch seine historische Kuppel
ein, die auf alten Fotos noch zu sehen ist. Über
dem 34 m hohen Turm schwebt als Windfahne
ein Engel aus Stahlblech, Anzolim de la Tor
genannt: Das heutige Stadtsymbol. 165 Treppen
führen auf den Turm. Ein sicherlich
beschwerlicher, jedoch wegen seiner Aussicht
lohnender Aufstieg!

Built in the 13 century, it was raised in 1555 and
underwent further modifications in the early
1900s, when the historic dome which is visible in
old photographs was removed. It is 34 m high
and topped by a windvane made of sheet iron in
the shape of an angel which is known as Anzolim
de la Tor and has become the modern symbol of
the town. It is well worth climbing the 165 steps in
order to enjoy the magnificent view from the top.
9 Piazza Catena
Prende il nome dalla grossa catena che nei
secoli passati veniva tesa sopra l'acqua a
difesa del porto. Fino al 1929 la piazza
ospitava il dazio imperiale: il segnale di un
confine che per secoli ha diviso il lembo
settentrionale del lago dalle regioni un poco
più a sud. Su questa riva da qualche anno è
stata collocata la statua barocca di San
Giovanni Nepomuceno, il protettore delle
acque che prima della grande guerra si
trovava in Piazza Benacense.
Dieser Platz erhielt seinen Namen wegen der
enormen Kette, die in den vergangenen
Jahrhunderten über das Wasser gespannt wurde,
um den Hafen vor Eindringlingen zu schützen. Bis
1929 befand sich am Platz das kaiserliche
Zollhaus, auch ein Merkmal der Grenze, die über
Jahrhunderte den nördlichen Teil des Sees von
den weiter südlich gelegenen Regionen
abtrennte. Seit einigen Jahren befindet sich an
diesem Ufer die Barockstatue von San Giovanni
Nepomuceno, dem Schutzheiligen der
Gewässer, die bis zum Ausbruch des 1.
Weltkrieges auf der Piazza Benacense ihren
Standort hatte.
Takes its name from the big chain which in
centuries past used to be stretched across the
water in defence of the harbour. Until 1929, the
piazza was home to the Imperial Customs
House: the borderline which for centuries
separated the northern stretch of the lake from
the regions a little further to the south. This shore
has also been home for a number of years to the
baroque statue of San Giovanni Nepomuceno,
patron saint of the waters, which until the Great
War was kept in Piazza Benacense.
