Il nuovo e la tradizione
RIPROGETTARE il fine linea
MACCHINE AUTOMATICHE Cosa significa fare innovazione
per i produttori di macchine automatiche? Significa,
In particolare
per le società che progettano e
producono macchine automatiche di
processo e confezionamento, fare innovazione
significa intraprendere e
completare un iter complesso, che ha
come base di partenza la ricerca, da
cui ricavare spunti e suggestioni capaci
di imprimere una svolta decisiva alla filosofia
produttiva e di approccio al mercato.
Si tratta di un processo che può
dare buoni risultati solo se condotto in
stretta collaborazione con l’end user,
mettendo in atto una vera e propria strategia
di comakership.
E ancora, se in passato le macchine
erano essenzialmente orientate al prodotto,
oggi le stesse macchine devono
essere in grado di rispondere a esigenze
molto diversificate, compresa la
necessità di offrire un grado elevato
di sicurezza al consumatore finale (le
soluzioni child proof o le tecnologie in
grado di testimoniare la rintracciabilità
The new and tradition
Redesigning the end of line
AUTOMATIC MACHINES What does innovation mean for producers of
automatic machines? It means, in extreme synthesis, being able to
correctly rate the needs of the end user, starting off from the
rationalisation of acquired skills and knowhow, along a path of research
that can never be deemed completed. The comakership between IMA and
ELAU, is in this sense exemplary: the new automation technologies used
have in fact improved the performance of the end of line systems.
For companies that design and
manufacture automatic machines
for process and packaging,
innovating means undertaking and
completing a highly complex
process that begins with research.
It’s a process that can only lead to
good results if it’s carried out in
close collaboration with the end
user, in a real comakership.
Product-oriented machines are a
thing of the past; nowadays
machines also have to be able to
meet the requirements of the end
user: Child Proof technologies,
solutions that ensure traceability of
the manufacturer on each dose of
the drug can serve as examples).
Identifying the areas that need
innovation is vital for a business, as
is extending output capacity for
both internal lines and external lines:
recent operations put in place by
IMA are part of this.
Having announced five lines of
business: tea and coffee packaging;
solid oral pharmaceutical process
and production; liquid/powder;
primary and secondary
pharmaceutical packaging; end of
line packaging.
DEDICATED END OF LINE
The End of Line Division of IMA has
for over 30 years been producing a
complete range of wrapping
machines, bundling machines,
casepackers and palletisers (to
which the counting machines
Packaging Systems and Swiftpack
Automation). The builders has
supplied more than 5,000 end of
line machines worldwid,
appreciated both for their
innovatory design and full
compliance to market requirements.
IMA’s goal has in fact always been
that of developing systems with
levels of excellence and specific
characteristics to the point of
making them suited for use in
various industrial sectors, such as
pharmaceuticals, cosmetics,
packaging of personal hygiene
products and food products
(particularly confectionery, tea,
coffee and tobacco), adopting
effective techniques and respecting
the specific design requisites of
each sector.
Thanks to this philosophy IMA was,
Automation & Controls
Plus comuni a tutte, compattezza e cambi formati rapidi,
a caldo.
minuti.
estremamente flessibile, è in grado di confezionare flaconi
sfusi o già fardellati con avvolgimento termoretratto in casse
RSC.
alta velocità (fino a 30 casse/min) idonea all’inserimento di
astucci singoli e fardellati in casse americane o tray preincollati.
è prioritaria, così come l’ampliamento
struttura, dando vita a cinque linee
di business: confezionamento tè e caffé;
processo e produzione di forme farmaceutiche
solide orali; liquidi/polveri;
confezionamento farmaceutico primario
e secondario; confezionamento fine
linea.
at world level one for the first
packaging machine builders to
develop and introduce leading edge
solutions on its own machines; a
case in point is the toolless rapid
format change, the use of
servomotors for unwinding and
centring wrapping film reel, the
adjustment and automatic
registering of the size parts.
SEEKING THE NEW
It is this cultural and
technological climate that in
the cooperation with ELAU
has been built up in time,
that has enabled IMA to
devise innovatory solutions
on the most recent machines for
end of line packaging.
In particular, the adoption of
flexible automation solutions
devised by and with the German
supplier, have enabled them to
respond exhaustively to the growing
demand for flexibility and further
production capacity.
And indeed the evermore recent
resorting to servomotors has
revolutionised the concept itself of
design of automatic machines,
given that movement previously
carried out by mechanical cams and
shaft have been replaced by
chine soluzioni all’avanguardia; è il caso
del cambio formato rapido senza l’ausilio
di chiavi, l’impiego di servomotori
per lo svolgimento e la centratura della
bobina nastro avvolgitrice, la regolazione
e registrazione automatica delle
parti a formato.
incremento prestazionale.
UN FINE LINEA DEDICATO
La divisione Fine Linea di IMA produce
da oltre 30 anni una gamma completa di
avvolgitrici, fardellatrici, incartonatrici e
Nova Packaging Systems e Swiftpack
Automation).
tali da renderli idonei all’impiego in
diversi settori industriali, quali il farmaceutico,
il cosmetico, il confezionamento
dei prodotti per l’igiene personale
e dei prodotti alimentari (con
particolare riguardo a dolci, tè, caffé
e tabacco), adottando tecniche efficaci
e rispettando i requisiti di progettazione
specifici di ciascun settore.
Grazie a questa filosofia IMA è stata, a
livello mondiale, uno dei primi costruttori
di macchine confezionatrici a sviluppare
e introdurre sulle proprie macelectronic
drivers. ELAU has
developed specific automation
solution for packaging, that carry out
the ttasks demanded with extreme
simplicity and with a considerable
increase in performance.
The range of advantages added by
ELAU technology to IMA’s machines
is broad and appreciable: better
performance in terms of flexibility
and optimisation of the range of
products handed, reduction of
format time changes and simplified
installation procedures. As well as
that the possibility of remote
diagnosis via modem guarantees an
assistance service in real time, thus
optimising times and costs of
Il range dei vantaggi apportati dalla tecnologia
ELAU sulle macchine IMA è
ampio e apprezzabile: prestazioni migliori
in termini di flessibilità e ottimizzazione
della gamma dei prodotti trattati,
riduzione dei tempi di cambio
formato e procedure di installazione
semplificate. Inoltre, la possibilità di diagnosi
remota via modem garantisce un
servizio di assistenza in tempo reale,
ottimizzando così tempi e costi degli interventi
post-vendita.
after-sales call-outs
The high quality standard of all the IMA
end-of-line machines, combined with
their sturdy structure and versatility in
terms of speed and formats, has
contributed to making the builder the
ideal supplier not only of the big
multinationals but also for the small
independent end consumer, on the
lookout for a partner capable of fielding
skill and reliability.
SERVOMOTORS FOR PACKAGING
On IMA’s end of line systems (of which
we give a synthesis in the box) all the
A synthesis of technology
A rapid review, some of the casepacking machines offered by
the IMA End of Line Division. Their characteristics make them
ideal tools for packaging in the pharmaceuitcal-cosmetics
field. Pluspoints common to all, compactness and rapid format
change, to be carried out in just a few minutes.
• IMA BFB 3754 - This new high-speed top-loading
casepacking machine specifically designed to handle loose or
bundled bottles. The machine perfectly meets the toiletry and
pharmaceutical market requirements in terms of speed
capability and compactness. Great emphasis has been placed
on machine accessibility, easy cleaning and the ergonomic
position of all its components. On the 3754, most parts of the
machine, with the exception of the screws, can be accessed
from the operator’s side without having to walk to the opposite
side to reach the bottle collating station. The 3754 is extremely
compact for a machine capable of erecting, loading and sealing
up to 50 cases/minute. To achieve such high speeds, the
machine is entirely driven by servo-motors, with dedicated
strokes and motion profiles for each specific container size or
shape. Servo technology and innovative solutions allow the
smooth handling of difficult and unusually shaped bottles. The
horizontal case magazine is able to guarantee long autonomy
and handle two rows of cases. The case forced opening groups
and the closing groups (bottom and upper flaps) can also
handle two cases simultaneously (the second group can be
excluded). The machine is also equipped with 2 infeed hoppers
for product insertion inside the cases (the second hopper can
be excluded as well). Case closure can be done by either tape
or hot-melt glue or by both. To ensure perfect handling of
difficult shaped bottles, the infeed system is equipped with
non-stop worm-screws to correctly orientate the containers. A
special head collates the products to the final case pattern. The
machine is equipped with a Fanuc robot to insert the collation
into the case. The changeover between loose bottles and
bundles (same size) can be done in a few minutes. A complete
changeover takes 30 minutes.
• IMA BFB CPV15 - An innovative vertical casepacking machine
(up to 15 cases/minute), designed for the requirements of the
pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, and thanks to its
great flexibility able to package loose or bundled bottles with
shrink-wrapped RSC cases. Different feeding systems have
been developed for more specific product handling. These
systems always feature positive checking of both the
bottles/bundles and the final case. This machine meets the
new requirements of filling lines where a small number of
products is required inside each case. The CPV15 is extremely
compact, as carton opening, product insertion and case closure
are all enclosed within the same structure.
• IMA BFB CP38 - An automatic horizontal high-speed
casepacking machine (up to 30 cases/minute) suitable for
inserting individual and bundled cartons into American boxes or
pre-glued trays. The machine is entirely controlled by
servodrives and is extremely accessible and compact (thanks to
its balcony structure). All its components are highly ergonomic:
all size and product changeover operations can be performed
on the operator’s side and the horizontal carton magazine is in
a very low position, to assist material loading. Pick-up and
forced opening arms with suction cups ensure perfect carton
erection during the filling phase. Cartons can be
closed with adhesive tape and/or hot glue.
dell’operatore. Ulteriori agevolazioni in
significativo. La tecnologia di trasferimento
dati su fibra ottica impiegata
nel collegamento tra le unità di
controllo assi e gli azionamenti ha infatti
contribuito a innalzare il grado di
immunità del sistema dai disturbi elettromagnetici,
semplificando sensibilmente
le operazioni di installazione e
cablaggio del sistema di controllo.
L’installazione di motori autoparametrizzanti
all’accensione ha ridotto notevolmente
la possibilità di errori di cablaggio
e di danneggiamenti della
macchina in fase di start up.
Le schede assi modulari ed espandibili
del sistema ELAU (e i relativi moduli
software) ne consentono il riutilizzo su
diverse famiglie di macchine realizzate
da IMA.
that enable and optimisation of
performance, guaranteeing max
flexibility and simplicity of format
change operations, and reduce to a
minimum the times of operator
intervention.
Further facilitation in this derive from
the color touch-screen interface, that
enables and immediate and
extremely simplified access to all
functions and to the management of
machine parameters. The ELAU
Pacdrive C400 control unit in turn
runs the PLC and motion control
function. The use of the ELAU
system - and relative componentry -
has been decisive for improving
performance compared to the same
type of traditional systems, offering
IMA an important competitive
advantage. The optical fibre data
transfer technology used in the
connection between the axial control
unit and the drives has in fact
contributed to raising the degree of
immunity of the system from
electromagnetical disturbances,
considerably simplifying the installing
and cabling operations of the control
system. The installation of selfparameterizing
motors at power-on
has much reduced the possibility of
wiring errors and damage to the
machine during start-up. The ELAU
system also features the modularity
and expandability of its axes cards
and relative software modules, which
can be reused on different machine
groups in the IMA catalogue. ■
