L’angolo del Direttore
Provate a sedervi, dove si muove il confine tra l‘ombra e
i raggi del sole: sentite il fresco e il tepore, il calore della
roccia e l’umidità della terra.
Provate a fermarvi, lungo un sentiero, a sentire i rumori che
il vento produce passando tra gli abeti o i faggi, i diversi
canti degli uccelli, lo scorrere dell’acqua, il fischio della
marmotta.
Provate a sentire, nel mezzo del bosco, i profumi delle
felci e del muschio, l’odore di farina dei funghi lactarius e
di sterco delle mucche, i profumi e gli odori della corteccia
degli alberi e dell’aria dell’incassata valle.
Provate a guardare come si muovono i larici, come volteggia
la poiana, come si rincorrono i merli, come danzano i fiori in
un pendio soleggiato e accarezzato dal vento.
Provate a toccare le cortecce degli alberi, ad accarezzare
la roccia, a solleticare la terra, a sfiorare il cappello viscido
del boleto, le lamelle della russola, ad immergere le mani
nell’acqua del ruscello, a lasciarvi bagnare dalle gocce della
cascata che rimbalzano sulla roccia, a far scorrere tra le
dita gli aghi di pino, a calpestare con forza le foglie dei
castagni o delle querce.
Immergetevi nella lettura di Dolomiti Belluno for me estate…
per vivere la montagna, liberare i vostri sensi, sentirvi

Editor’s corner
Try sitting down where the rays of the sun meet the shade: feel the
contrast between coolness and warmth, between the heat of the rock
and the dampness of the earth.
Try stopping off along a path and listening out for the sound of the
wind whistling through the fir or beech trees, the different varieties of
birdsong, the rush of the water or the call of the marmot.
Try standing amid the woodlands and breathing in the scent of ferns
and moss, the floury smell of lactarius mushrooms and the whiff of
cow dung, the scents and fragrances of tree bark and the air which
drifts up from the valley.
Try watching the larch trees swaying in the breeze, the buzzard gliding
through the air, the blackbirds chasing each other through the skies,
the wind rippling through the carpet of flowers which adorns the
hillsides.
Try touching the bark of the trees, caressing the rock, scratching the
surface of the earth, running your fingers across the slimy cap of a
boletus mushroom or along the gills of the russola variety, dipping
your hands into the waters of the stream, feeling the spray from the
waterfall on your face as the water bounces off the rock, rubbing
some pine needles through your fingers, trampling the chestnut or oak
leafs underfoot.

Perdersi nel verde Lost amid the greenery
Poche settimane fa ho ritrovato a un incontro pubblico un caro
amico d’infanzia. Quanti ricordi. Abbiamo approfittato di un’ora di
pausa per fare una passeggiata non lontano dal punto di ritrovo,
in quegli stessi prati bellunesi dove, più di 40 anni fa, scorrazzavamo
in bici sulle stradine bianche. Quei pedali che lanciavamo
in corse sfrenate nella nostra fantasia erano una volta cavalli,
un’altra le bici di Balmamion e Anquetil o le macchine di Graham
Hill e Jim Clarke. Sono belli i prati del Bellunese, oggi come
allora, distese verdi da guadare per finire nell’intrico di percorsi
pedemontani, di piccoli paesini, poveri ponti e torrenti rigogliosi,
ogni curva una storia tra siepi e muretti. Niente navigatore quindi:
perdere la strada e ritrovare la memoria è il gioco che vi propongo
questo mese!

A few weeks ago at a public meeting, I ran into a dear friend from
my childhood days. Ah, memories! Taking advantage of an hourlong
break, we set off for a walk in the surrounding area, through
those same fields and down the same dirt-track roads we used to
pedal along on our bikes over 40 years ago. On our bikes? In our
fertile young imaginations they were trusty steeds, or the racing
cars of Graham Hill and Jim Clarke; when they were bikes, they
were the speeding wheels of Balmamion and Anquetil. The fields
of the Belluno Area are just as beautiful now as I remember them
then: vast swathes of emerald green which sweep out towards
a maze of piedmont routes, tiny little villages, country bridges
and dashing torrents, where every little bend and corner, every
hedgerow and dyke has a story to tell. So leave your navigators at
home: lose your way and find your memories is my suggestion for
this month!

Il Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi è un’oasi di natura
incontaminata a due passi dalle città della pianura veneta. L’area
protetta, estesa per 32.000 ettari, è nata nel 1993 per tutelare la parte
più meridionale delle Dolomiti: quella compresa tra Feltre, Belluno,
Longarone, la Val di Zoldo e la Conca Agordina. Tra i numerosi gruppi
montuosi inclusi nel Parco ci sono le Vette Feltrine, il Cimonega, il
Pizzocco, i Monti del Sole, la Schiara e Pramper. Montagne ancora
poco note al grande pubblico, ma che offrono al visitatore paesaggi
straordinari, animati da una flora ed una fauna uniche al mondo.
Se amate i fiori di montagna, il Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi
è davvero il posto giusto per voi. Nell’area protetta potete infatti
trovare quasi un terzo delle 5.600 piante diverse che vivono in Italia,
tra il monte Bianco e Lampedusa. Tra le 1.800 specie presenti ci
sono piante endemiche (che vivono solo qui e non altrove) come la
Campanula morettiana, simbolo del Parco; per altre invece il Parco
rappresenta il limite estremo del loro areale di diffusione, come accade
per alcune specie “balcaniche”.
Per rendere accessibile a tutti questo straordinario e colorato
patrimonio, il Parco ha creato, in Val del Mis, un giardino
botanico, dove si possono ammirare le
specie più rare, interessanti o appariscenti.
Il giardino è progettato per essere percorso
anche dalle carrozzelle dei disabili motori e le
informazioni sono fornite anche con pannelli in Braille,
per i non vedenti. Il giardino si raggiunge percorrendo la
strada provinciale n. 1 della Valle del Mis, fino a monte
dell’omonimo lago.
L’inaugurazione del giardino è prevista per la mattina
di sabato 12 luglio, in occasione del quindicesimo
compleanno del Parco.

protected area, which spreads out over 32,000 hectares, came
into being in 1993 in order to protect the southernmost part of the
Dolomites, the area which includes Feltre, Belluno, Longarone, the
Zoldo Valley and the Agordino Basin. Among the numerous mountain
groups which lie within the Park are the Vette Feltrine, the Cimonega,
the Pizzocco, the Monti del Sole, the Schiara and Pramper: mountains
which are perhaps little-known to the wider public, but which offer the
visitor extraordinary landscapes views, enlivened by quite unique plant
and animal life, species to be found nowhere else in the world.
If you’re into mountain flowers, then the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park
really is the place for you. The protected area is home to almost a third
of the 5600 different plant species which exist in the whole of Italy, from
the Monte Bianco to Lampedusa. The 1800 species present in the Park
include endemic plants (i.e particular to this area and which cannot be
found elsewhere) such as the Campanula morettiana, adopted as the
symbol of the Park, while other types of plants can be found no further
afield than in the Park, as is the case with some species native to the
Balkans, for instance.
So that everyone can enjoy this extraordinary, colourful floral heritage,
the Park has created a botanic garden in the Mis Valley, where visitors
can admire the rarest, most interesting or most striking species. The
garden has been designed to be accessible to wheelchair users and
visitors with movement difficulties, and for the visually impaired, there
are Braille information panels. The botanic garden can be reached by
driving along the provincial road number 1 from the Mis Valley until the
beginning of the lake of the same name.
The inauguration of the garden is scheduled for the morning of
Saturday the 12th of July, on the occasion of the fifteenth
anniversary of the creation of the Park.
The Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park is an unspoilt nature oasis

Bella e selvaggia: la valle che non ti aspetti
Riscoprire il piacere della meditazione, ritrovare se stessi in un’oasi naturale incontaminata, lontana dai ritmi frenetici della vita quotidiana: è
quanto può offrire un itinerario in Valmontina, a Perarolo di Cadore. Monti, torrenti impetuosi, cascate d’acqua sono solo alcune delle attrattive
della prima area wilderness alpina europea riconosciuta: un territorio selvaggio, dove gli appassionati possono vivere l’ambiente montano
in completa solitudine, immersi in una natura quasi primordiale. Numerosi i sentieri nell’area, talvolta poco segnalati, un tempo cuore dell’attività
di boscaioli, cacciatori e pastori locali. Tra questi il Sentiero Natura, un itinerario di circa 2-3 ore che dal fondovalle giunge a Casera
Val Montina. Lungo il percorso, è possibile ammirare le tante specie vegetazionali che qui trovano il proprio habitat ideale -dal ginepro al pino
nero, dal pino silvestre alle rare orchidee- e, con un po’ di fortuna, imbattersi nei silenziosi abitanti del bosco: cervi, camosci, mufloni, lepri,
volpi, ed ancora le tante specie ornitologiche che qui nidificano -dalla beccaccia alla pernice bianca ed all’aquila. Più impegnativo il Sentiero
Escursionistico, che presenta tratti esposti e ripide salite e richiede una certa abilità nel muoversi in ambienti selvaggi.

a valley which takes you by surprise
Perarolo di Cadore - Valmontina
A trip through the Valmontina in the Perarolo di Cadore area is ideal for re-discovering the
pleasure of getting back in touch with yourself in a completely unspoilt nature oasis, far from
the frantic pace of everyday life. Here you will find mountains, dashing mountain streams,
waterfalls and much, much more in one of the first areas to be awarded European alpine
wilderness area status and you will enjoy the mountains in complete solitude, in the silence of
a natural environment which might almost be described as primitive. This area offers a wide
range of paths to walk along, although some of them are not clearly marked out.
One particularly beautiful route is the Nature Trail, a 2-3 hour long itinerary which comes
up from the bottom of the valley to the Casera Val Montina. Along the way, you can admire
a whole range of plant species which have found their ideal habitat here and if you are really
lucky, you might just stumble upon one of the forest’s shy, silent inhabitants such as a deer,
chamois, fox or perhaps one of the species of birds which come here to nest, such as the
woodcock, the rock ptarmigan or even the eagle. If you’re looking for more of a challenge,
you might like to try the Hiking Trail, along which you will find exposed stretches and steep
climbs, requiring a certain experience in walking in a wild environment.

Una vacanza sulle Dolomiti non è solo camminate ad alta
quota e sport estremi, vi è anche la possibilità di vivere la
montagna in assoluto relax tranquillamente sdraiati al sole.
Alcuni tra i laghi più belli della provincia di Belluno offrono
infatti deliziose spiaggette per trascorrere ore di prezioso,
assoluto relax e catturare un’abbronzatura da urlo! Alleghe
ed il suo splendido lago vi aspettano con due spiagge
attrezzate con ombrelloni e lettini a disposizione gratuita
dei turisti; anche al lago di Auronzo le spiagge sono due,
una di sabbia ed una a prato. Al lago di Santa Croce è
particolarmente piacevole prendere il sole, per il vento rinfrescante
che sempre vi soffia e per lo spettacolo, imperdibile,
di mille windsurf colorati che volteggiano nell’acqua.
Protagonista assoluta la natura ai laghi Mis, all’interno del
Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi, Corlo, primo e più occidentale
ingresso in provincia di Belluno ed allo splendido
laghetto del Sorapìss, nei pressi di Misurina.

A holiday in the Dolomites is not just about high-altitude hikes and extreme sports: there are also plenty of opportunities to just relax and
sunbathe in the mountains. Some of the most beautiful lakes in the province of Belluno offer visitors the chance to spend a peaceful few
hours lying on the sandy lakeside beaches acquiring a tan that will be the envy of all your friends! Alleghe and its splendid lake await
you with two beaches fully equipped with sunloungers and beach umbrellas which are free for visitors to use, while Auronzo Lake also
has two areas on the shore where you can enjoy the sun, one with sand and the other with grass. Santa Croce Lake is especially good
for sunbathing, because of the pleasant breeze which blows over the water and the spectacular, multicoloured display offered by the
windsurfers twirling across the water. And then there are the spectacular natural surroundings of Mis Lake, which lies within the Dolomiti
Bellunesi National Park, Corlo Lake, at the western edge of the province of Belluno, and Sorapìss Lake, near Misurina. Further information

Agordino
Belli e possibili,
tutti i fiori a portata
di escursione
Estate: tempo di escursioni in alta quota,
bagni di sole e sport all’aria aperta. Ma in
Agordino, la stagione estiva offre anche
la possibilità di effettuare una piacevole
passeggiata tra i mille profumi dei fiori
che colorano prati e pendii. Bellissimo da
percorrere nei mesi di giugno e luglio è
il Sentiero Naturalistico F.Miniussi nel
Gruppo dell’Agner, un itinerario adatto a
tutti, di circa 4 ore, in partenza nei pressi
del Rifugio Scarpa: oltre agli splendidi
panorami sulla Conca Agordina, lungo il
percorso è possibile ammirare da vicino
oltre 200 specie floristiche.
Nel gruppo del Civetta, nei pressi del
Rifugio Vazzoler, si trova invece il Giardino
Botanico “A.Segni”. Inaugurato
nel 1968 e recentemente ristrutturato, il
Giardino dispone di numerosi percorsi che
consentono di osservare e conoscere tutte
le specie alpine presenti nelle Dolomiti e, in
particolare, nella zona del Civetta-Moiazza.
L’itinerario, adatto anche ai giovanissimi,
parte da Capanna Trieste in Val Corpassa e
giunge al Rifugio Vazzoler dopo circa un’ora
e mezza di cammino su strada sterrata.
Materiale didattico è disponibile presso il
Rifugio ed il Corpo Forestale dello Stato,
cui è affidata la gestione del Giardino.

Hiking amid
the flowers in bloom
Summer: time to go hiking in the
mountains, sunbathing and playing sport
in the open air. But in the Agordino area
there’s even more to enjoy this season
– the chance to take a pleasant stroll amid
the myriad of colourful, sweet-smelling
flowers which adorn fields and hillsides.
One particularly beautiful route in the
months of June and July is the F. Miniussi
Nature Trail in the Agner Group, which
takes about 4 hours and is suitable for
everyone. The trail sets out from near the
Scarpa Refuge, and along the way you can
not only admire the splendid views of the
Agordino Basin, but you can also observe
over 200 species of flowers at close
quarters. In the Civetta Group, near the
Vazzoler Refuge, you will find the A. Segni
Botanic Garden. Inaugurated in 1968 and
recently restructured, the Garden offers a
wide range of routes along which you can
learn more about all the alpine species
present in the Dolomites. The itinerary,
suitable even for young children, starts out
from Capanna Trieste in the Val Corpassa
and reaches the Vazzoler Refuge after
about half an hour’s walk along a dirt-track
road. Educational material is available from
the Refuge and from the State Forestry
Corps, who are responsible for the running
of the Garden.

Foresta del Cansiglio
Un anello tra i boschi
Dal Rifugio S. Osvaldo un itinerario affascinante di circa 15 km di lunghezza (4 ore
di cammino, effettuabile anche a tratti) abbraccia l’intero territorio della Piana del
Cansiglio e le sue ricchezze. Il percorso, che non presenta dislivelli significativi, inizia
dietro il rifugio dove è possibile lasciare l’auto: seguendo la prima freccia direzionale,
si sale su strada verso Casera Lissandri, girando poi a destra al limitare del bosco.
Proseguendo lungo il sentiero entro i rimboschimenti di abete rosso si raggiunge, in
discesa, la strada provinciale n. 422 che percorre la piana. Attraversata la strada, ci
si dirige verso la torbiera ed il giardino botanico alpino: una breve visita e si prosegue
al margine del bosco fino a raggiungere la strada che porta all’area picnic
Archeton, oltre il golf club, per poi continuare entro il bosco fino alla seconda area
pic nic Bus de la Lum, dove è possibile sostare e rilassarsi. Il percorso prosegue
poi lungo il margine del bosco, fino ad intercettare la strada asfaltata in prossimità
del ristorante Genziana, dalla quale è possibile imboccare il sentiero verso il
Villaggio Cimbro Vallorch. Superato un pannello illustrativo sulle carbonaie ci si
ricongiunge al sentiero che, attraversando la piana, riconduce alla strada che porta
al rifugio S. Osvaldo.

A round trip through the woods
The S. Osvaldo Refuge is the departure point for an appealing itinerary of around
15km long (4 hours’ walk, which can be divided up into stages) running right round
the whole area of the Cansiglio Plain. The route, which presents no particularly
challenging differences in level, starts out behind the refuge, where you can park
your car. From here, follow the first arrow up the road towards the Casera Lissandri
hut and then turn right at the edge of the forest. Carry on along the path amid the
reforestation areas of Norway spruce, which will take you down to the provincial
road number 422 which runs across the plain. Cross the road and head for the
peat bog and the alpine botanic garden; stop here for a brief visit and then
continue on along the edge of the forest until you reach the road which leads to the
Archeton picnic area, after the golf club. From here, walk on through the forest
until you come to a second picnic area, Bus de la Lum, where you can stop for a
relaxing rest. The route then continues around the edge of the forest, until it meets
the asphalt road near the Genziana Restaurant, from which you can take the path
which leads to the Cimbran Village of Vallorch. After an information panel on the
charcoal pits you will return onto the path which crosses the plain back towards the
S. Osvaldo Refuge.
L’incanto del Cadore

È una passeggiata facile, breve e panoramica
quella che congiunge l’abitato di Grea a quello
di Rizzios. Dalla località Pian Gran a Grea
(m. 850) imbocchiamo il sentiero attrezzato di
panchine diretto a Rizzios: immersi nella natura
rigogliosa, procediamo lungo il percorso, dal
quale la vista spazia sugli splendidi Spalti di
Toro, l’Antelao, il Montanel, per poi soffermarsi
sul Lago di Centro Cadore, l’abitato di Pieve di
Cadore e la Diga di Sottocastello. Passo dopo
passo, ci inoltriamo nel bosco tra faggi e noccioli,
assaporando il profumo delle fioriture dei
ciclamini selvatici. Ed ecco, all’improvviso, una
coppia di scoiattoli saltellare di ramo in ramo,
una lepre in rapida fuga tra gli abeti. Dopo circa
mezz’ora di cammino giungiamo a Rizzios
ed alle sue antiche case, le tipiche abitazioni
cadorine con i muri a graticcio. Due passi nel
borgo alla ricerca della fonte pura dell’Acqua
di Sant’Anna, e rientriamo poi a Grea lungo lo
stesso sentiero. I più volenterosi possono invece
imboccare da Rizzios il bel sentiero diretto a
Ponte Molinà, e da qui rientrare a Grea.

Cadore Lake, the little town of Pieve di Cadore
and the Sottocastello Dam. Little by little you will
find yourself in the heart of the woodland, amid
beech and hazel trees, where you can breathe
in the heady fragrance of the wild cyclamen in
bloom, or perhaps spot a couple of squirrels
leaping from branch to branch, or a hare darting
in and out among the fir trees. After about half
an hour’s walk you will come to Rizzios, with its
typical old Cadore-style houses with half-timbered
walls. Take a quick stroll around the village in
search of the source of the pure Sant’Anna
Water, and then retrace your steps back to
Grea. If you feel up to it, you might like to carry
on along the fine path which runs from Rizzios to
Ponte Molinà, then walk back from there to Grea.

Auronzo di Cadore
Le Tre Cime ospitano il Pelmo d’Oro
The Pelmo d’Oro awards on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
Sarà il comune di Auronzo di Cadore ad ospitare, quest’anno,
l’undicesima edizione del Pelmo d’Oro. Il premio, voluto dalla
Provincia di Belluno e che si avvale della collaborazione del Club
Alpino Italiano, celebra anno dopo anno il riconoscimento di
particolari meriti nell’ambito dell’alpinismo e della solidarietà alpina,
della tutela e valorizzazione dell’ambiente e delle risorse montane,
della conoscenza e promozione della cultura, della storia e delle
tradizioni delle genti di montagna nelle Dolomiti Bellunesi. Auronzo
di Cadore si prepara ad accogliere i premiati con un nutrito corollario di
manifestazioni. Dal 19 luglio al 17 agosto è in programma la mostra
“LAVAREDO: ALLE PORTE DEL CIELO - Arte, filatelia, colori e
poesia della montagna”: la sala esposizioni del Municipio ospiterà
opere d’arte di maestri come Emilio Vedova, una mostra filatelica del
GFM (Gruppo Filatelici di Montagna) e del Circolo Filatelico Numismatico
Bellunese. Giovedì 24 luglio, dopo un emozionante passaggio della
Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale Frecce Tricolori sulle Tre Cime
di Lavaredo, sarà presentato nella Sala Consiliare del Municipio il
primo francobollo italiano sulla montagna “Un francobollo per le
Lavaredo” dedicato alle Tre Cime; in serata, conversazione con un
alpinista. Venerdì 25 luglio un concerto ad alta quota risuonerà
al rifugio Lavaredo. Infine, sabato 26 luglio, nella sala del cinema
Kursaal, si incontreranno i premiati Pelmo d’Oro 2008, presentati
da filmati curati dal Filmfestival di Trento. Nel pomeriggio
appuntamento sul Monte Piana (in caso di maltempo presso la Sala
Consiliare del Municipio) per uno spettacolo teatrale. Gli appassionati
di filatelia potranno inoltre trovare in questi giorni speciali annulli
filatelici, mentre sarà offerta a tutti gli ospiti alTRECIME Card,
una carta agevolazioni che consentirà di usufruire delle offerte di

This year it will be the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore which
has the honour of hosting the 11th edition of the Pelmo d’Oro
awards, the ceremony created and organized by the Province of
Belluno with the collaboration of the Italian Alpine Club. Year after
year, this event presents awards to individuals and associations
who have distinguished themselves in the field of mountaineering
and mountain solidarity, in the protection and enhancement of
the mountain environment and of its resources, in promoting and
disseminating the culture, history and traditions of the mountain
folk of the Belluno Dolomites. Auronzo di Cadore is getting ready to
welcome the award-winners with a packed programme of collateral
events. From the 19th of July to the 17th of August, in the exhibition
room of the Town Hall, visitors will be able to admire the exhibition
“LAVAREDO: AT THE GATES OF HEAVEN - Art, philately,
colours and poetry from the mountains”, with works from
artists of the calibre of Emilio Vedova, a stamp exhibition by the
GFM (Mountain Philately Group) and the Stamp and Coin Collecting
Circle of Belluno. On the 24th of July, an exciting display by the
pilots of the Italian Air Force Acrobatic Flying Team over the
Tre Cime di Lavaredo will be followed by the presentation of the first
Italian stamp on a mountain theme, dedicated to the Tre Cime; this
will be followed in the evening by conversations with a mountaineer.
On Friday 25th July there will be high-altitude concert performed
in the Lavaredo Refuge; and finally, on Saturday the 26th of
July, the Pelmo d’Oro 2008 award winners will meet in the

“Cortina InConTra”, l’attualità in vacanza. In luglio e agosto, così come a dicembre e gennaio,
Cortina diventa la capitale d’Italia. Spettacolo, cultura, politica, economia, giornalismo, arte,
musica in due mesi fitti di incontri, appuntamenti, eventi da non perdere. Grazie ad Enrico e Iole
Cisnetto, ideatori della manifestazione, e alla collaborazione dell’agenzia Ad Hoc di Danilo Lo

“Cortina InConTra”, the news on holiday. In July and August, as in December and January,
Cortina becomes the current affairs capital of Italy, with a packed programme of unmissable

art and music. Thanks to Enrico and Iole Cisnetto, who came up with the idea of Cortina
InConTra, and to the collaboration of Danilo Lo Mauro’s Ad Hoc agency, all eyes in Italy are

Musica Vallada Agordina
Tesori d’arte nascosti tra
tabià e antichi rustici
Caratterizzato da una posizione particolarmente soleggiata e circondato
da boschi di conifere e belle montagne dolomitiche, Vallada Agordina in
Valle del Biois è rimasto il paese di un tempo, con le sue sette sorelle (frazioni)
Mas, Celat, Sachet, Andrich, Toffol, Piaz, Cogul. Tra i vecchi rustici
ed i molti tabià è facile imbattersi nei dipinti murali di ispirazione religiosa,
così come nei numerosi crocifissi e capitelli che si trovano agli incroci dei
sentieri. Sulle pendici del Monte Celentone troviamo la secolare Chiesa
Monumentale di San Simone e Giuda Taddeo, dichiarata Monumento
Storico nel 1894. La sua notorietà è attribuita al ciclo di affreschi che
ne adornano le pareti interne, eseguiti intorno al 1530 da Paris Bordone,

allievo del Tiziano. La chiesa conserva un pregevole organo costruito dal
Callido nel 1802, ancora perfettamente funzionante, e parte restaurata del Flügelaltar cinquecentesco. La Chiesa è aperta tutti i giorni in
luglio ed agosto, dalle 10.00 alle 12.30 e dalle 16.00 alle 19.00. Antica è anche la Chiesa cinquecentesca di San Rocco in località
Celat, che conserva affreschi del pittore agordino Lorenzo Paulitti.

Art treasures hidden away amid haysheds
and old country buildings
Characterised by a particularly sunny position, encircled by conifer woods and superb Dolomite peaks, Vallada Agordina in the Biois Valley
has remained substantially unchanged over time, with its seven wards: Mas, Celat, Sachet, Andrich, Toffol, Piaz and Cogul. As you take a
stroll around the old country buildings and typical local-style tabià (haysheds), you will often come upon wall paintings on a religious theme,
a well as numerous crucifixes and shrines. On the slopes of Monte Celentone sits the centuries-old Monumental Church of San Simone
and Giuda Taddeo, declared a Historical Monument in 1894. The church is particularly famous for the cycle of frescoes which adorn the
inside walls, painted around 1530 by Paris Bordone, a pupil of Titian. The church also contains a fine organ built by Callido in 1802 and still
in perfect working order, as well as a 16th century Flügelaltar which has been partially restored. The church is open every day in July and
August, from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 16.00 to 19.00. Last but not least, don’t miss the 16 th century Church of San Rocco in Celat and
its frescoes, painted by the local artist Lorenzo Paulitti.

Continuano a stupire gli organi del Cadore
Giunge quest’anno alla quindicesima edizione una delle manifestazioni culturali più significative del Bellunese. La rassegna “Organi Storici
in Cadore”, un itinerario concertistico alla riscoperta del prestigioso patrimonio organario cadorino, si svolge fra i mesi di luglio e agosto
coinvolgendo molte parrocchie della zona. I concerti, nei quali si esibiscono musicisti di prestigio e fama internazionale, si tengono nelle
chiese del Cadore che custodiscono gli organi maggiormente degni di interesse storico-musicale. Per partecipare alle serate concertistiche
non è necessario prenotare, né acquistare biglietti di ingresso, in quanto l’evento è completamente gratuito. All’inizio ed al termine di
ogni concerto è possibile acquistare il materiale audio ed i libri prodotti dall’associazione Organi storici in Cadore, la quale si prefigge di
divulgare la musica d’organo, promuovere restauri degli strumenti, pubblicare materiale audiovisivo, organizzare visite guidate ed audizioni
degli organi ed istituire corsi di perfezionamento e studio.

Organ music in the Cadore,
a constant source of surprises
This year sees the 15th edition of one of the most important cultural events on the Belluno calendar.
The “Historic Organs in the Cadore” concert tour, a voyage of discovery through the organs of
the Cadore area and their history, will take place during the months of July and August, and will
involve a large number of parishes in the area. The concerts, which will feature some prestigious
performances by world-class musicians, will be held in those churches in the Cadore which house the
organs deemed most interesting from a musical and historical point of view. Previous bookings are
not required to attend the concerts, and entry is free of charge. At the beginning and end of each
performance visitors will have the opportunity to purchase the audio material and books produced by
the “Historic Organs in the Cadore” association, the aim of which is to bring organ music to a wider
audience, promote the restoration of the instruments, publish audio-visual material, organize guided
visits and organ performances and set up training and study courses for organists.

Tambre – Rifugio Semenza
Un concerto all’alba saluta
il solstizio d’estate
Sono numerosi anche la prossima estate i concerti di musica
classica organizzati davanti ai rifugi dolomitici bellunesi.
Quest’anno, però, uno richiamerà particolare interesse e attenzione:
si svolgerà al Rifugio Semenza al Monte Cavallo, quota
2020, sul confine tra Veneto e Friuli Venezia Giulia, sopra Tambre
d’Alpago. Domenica 22 giugno, poco dopo le 6, con i primi
raggi del sole, i maestri dell’Orchestra di Belluno cominceranno
a suonare una speciale sinfonia in omaggio al Solstizio d’Estate.
L’iniziativa è stata pensata ed organizzata dal Cai di Vittorio
Veneto, proprietario del Rifugio, dalla Provincia di Belluno, dalla
Comunità Montana dell’Alpago e dal Comune di Tambre d’Alpago.
L’uomo di Mondeval
arriva sul palmare
Un servizio di visita innovativo è a disposizione per tutti coloro
che desiderano scoprire in modo insolito le straordinarie valenze
ambientali del sito di Mondeval de Sora, dove nel 1987 fu rinvenuta,
al riparo di un masso erratico di dolomia, la sepoltura di
un cacciatore mesolitico, risalente a circa 7.500 anni fa. Il GAL
Alto Bellunese, nell’ambito del Progetto Leader+ Mappemonde,
ha realizzato nel 2007 una guida audiovisiva (in lingua italiana,
inglese, tedesca e spagnola) che, grazie ad un palmare, consente
di scoprire in piena autonomia le bellezze naturali, ambientali
e storiche di questi luoghi. Lungo il percorso che si estende da
Piera dell’Autà fino al sito di Mondeval, sono identificati numerosi
punti di interesse per i quali è prevista l’emissione di informazioni
su flora, fauna e storia del territorio. I bambini possono
inoltre misurarsi con divertenti quiz, che renderanno l’escursione
ancora più divertente ed istruttiva. Le audioguide possono essere
noleggiate gratuitamente presso la Pro Loco Val Fiorentina di
Selva di Cadore.

A dawn concert to welcome
the summer solstice
Once again this coming summer, visitors will find a wide range of
classical music concerts to enjoy outside the mountain refuges in
the Belluno Dolomites. This year there is one in particular which
merits special attention: the concert which will take place at the
Semenza Refuge on Monte Cavallo, at an altitude of 2020
m, above Tambre d’Alpago. On Sunday the 22nd of June, just
after 6 a.m., the skilled musicians of the Orchestra of Belluno
will begin playing a special symphony to usher in the Summer
Solstice. Behind the idea and the organization of the concert are
the Vittorio Veneto section of the Italian Alpine Club, the Province
of Belluno, the Comunità Montana of the Alpago area and the
Municipality of Tambre d’Alpago.
A new, innovative service has been devised for those visitors
who fancy experimenting more about the extraordinary
environmental value of Mondeval de Sora, where the burial
site of a hunter from the Mesolithic Age, dating back to around
7500 years ago, was found in 1987 in the shelter of an erratic
boulder of dolomia rock. In the framework of the Leader +
Mappemonde Project, last year the Local Action Group (GAL)
of the North of Belluno created an audiovisual guide (in Italian,
English, German and Spanish) which allows visitors to discover
the natural, environmental and historical marvels of the area
in complete freedom, thanks to a hand-held device similar to
a palmtop computer. Along the route which runs from Piera
dell’Autà to the Mondeval site, numerous points of interest
have been identified, for each of which information on local
plant and animal life and history will be provided. For the kids,
there will also be a series of fun quizzes to try, designed to
make the trip even more enjoyable and educational. The audio
guides can be hired free from the Val Fiorentina Pro Loco Tourist
Association in Selva di Cadore.

Palladio e la sua Opera
Si terrà dal 6 giugno al 6 luglio 2008 al Fondaco
delle Biade la mostra “Palladio e la sua opera”, un
evento curato dal Comune di Feltre in collaborazione con
l’Associazione “Il Fondaco per Feltre” e patrocinato dal
Comitato Nazionale per il V Centenario della Nascita di
Andrea Palladio, che si inserisce nel ciclo di iniziative “Un
anno con Palladio”, programmato dalle due istituzioni
con il sostegno della Regione Veneto. Sono 24 i pannelli
fotografici in mostra, illustranti le principali opere realizzate
e la loro interazione con il territorio e già presentati in anteprima
a Bruxelles, in occasione dell’inaugurazione delle iniziative per il 5°
Centenario della nascita del grande architetto. A corredo della mostra,
visitabile il sabato dalle 16.00 alle 19.00 e la domenica dalle 10.00 alle
13.00 e dalle 16.00 alle 19.00, conferenze e letture, concerti di musiche
rinascimentali, visite alle ville palladiane ed un rondò gastronomico
dedicato alla cucina vicentina.

Palladio and his works
From the 6th of June to the 6th of July 2008, the Fondaco
delle Biade will host the exhibition “Palladio and his works”,
organized by the Municipality of Feltre in collaboration with the “Il
Fondaco per Feltre” Association and sponsored by the National
Committee for the 500th Anniversary of the Birth of Andrea Palladio:
the exhibition is part of the initiative “A Year with Palladio”, planned
by the two bodies with the support of the Veneto Region. 24
photographic panels will be on display, illustrating the main works
designed by Palladio and how they interact with the geographical
context in which they are set. The exhibition has already been
premièred in Brussels, on the occasion of the inauguration of the
programme of events for the 500th anniversary of the birth of the
great architect. The exhibition will be open on Saturdays from 16.00
to 19.00 and Sundays from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 16.00 to
19.00, and will be complemented by a series of collateral activities.

Anche quest’anno, l’estate sulle Dolomiti regala grandi emozioni a tutti gli appassionati di sport equestri. Dal 4 al 6 luglio 2008 ritorna il Dolomiti
Horse’s Game, il classico trekking a cavallo giunto oramai all’ottava edizione, che propone ad amazzoni e cavalieri la traversata dei luoghi
più belli e classici delle Dolomiti, con partenza dal “Centro Ippico Club Le Piane” a Vallada Agordina. I meravigliosi paesaggi attraversati allieteranno
l’occhio e lo spirito, mentre lauti punti di ristoro e controllo rinfrancheranno cavalli e cavalieri lungo tutto il percorso. Anche quest’anno dal
fondo valle si raggiungeranno le vette più rappresentative che ci circondano, per terminare l’ultimo giorno con una grande festa e rinfresco finale
a Caviola. Il 21-22 giugno 2008 Dolomiti Horse’s Game sarà inoltre proposto, con un percorso facilitato, ai piccoli cavalieri dai 14 ai 18 anni.
Sempre a luglio, appuntamento a Cortina per l’International Show Jumping “Città di Cortina”: il concorso ippico, giunto alla sua quarta
edizione, è divenuto oramai uno degli appuntamenti clou dell’estate ampezzana. Il concorso si svolgerà nei week-end 11-13 luglio e 18-20
luglio e durante la settimana 22-27 luglio in località Fiames, all’interno del Centro Sportivo Antonella De Rigo. Grazie al contesto paesaggistico
nel quale è inserito, questo evento è nel suo genere uno dei più suggestivi e seguiti: migliaia, infatti, i curiosi e gli spettatori che affollano la
zona, abitualmente frequentata solo da gitanti e da biker, vista la vicinanza del Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo e di alcuni percorsi per
mountain bike.
Tante inoltre le opportunità per un’estate all’insegna delle escursioni in bicicletta o in mountain bike -lungo le stradine della Val Belluna o sui sentieri
di Sappada, sul Civetta, nella Valle del Biois o nello Zoldano- mentre gli appassionati di equitazione troveranno ad attenderli maneggi e centri
ippici attrezzati, capaci di soddisfare le esigenze di tutti i cavalieri, principianti ed esperti. In provincia di Belluno sono 6 i circoli ippici affiliati alla
FISE (Federazione Italiana Sport Equestri), ma innumerevoli sono le proposte offerte dall’intero territorio Bellunese per una tranquilla passeggiata
a cavallo, immersi nel verde della natura.

Once again this summer, equestrian sports fans will find plenty of thrills awaiting them here in the Dolomites. From the 4th to the 6th of July
there’s the 8th edition of Dolomiti Horse’s Game, the classic horseback trekking event which takes riders through the most striking, bestknown
scenery of the Dolomites, starting out from “Club Le Piane” Riding Centre in Vallada Agordina. The superb landscapes the route runs
through are a treat for both the eye and the spirit, and for both riders and horses there are a series of well-equipped checkpoints along the way
where they can find refreshment. As in previous editions, this year’s route climbs up from the bottom of the valley to the most emblematic of the
surrounding peaks, and comes to an entertaining end with a party and refreshments at Caviola. Younger riders, from 14 to 18, will be able to
enjoy their own special, simplified version of Dolomiti Horse’s Game on the 21st-22nd of June 2008.

The month of July also sees the International
Show Jumping “Città di Cortina” event: this
riding competition, now in its fourth year, has
already become one of the high points on the
summer calendar in the Ampezzano area. It
will take place over two weekends (11th-13th
July and 18th-20th July) and a week (22nd-
27th July) in Fiames, in the Antonella De Rigo
Sports Centre. The spectacular surroundings in
which it is held make this event one of the most
popular and appealing of its kind, and in fact
thousands of spectators and curious visitors
flock to the area – normally frequented only by
mountain bikers and day trippers who come
to visit the nearby Dolomiti d’Ampezzo Natural
Park or to pedal along some of the mountain
bike routes.
Of course, there is also plenty for cyclists
and mountain bike fans here this summer too
– along the little roads of the Val Belluna or
the paths of Sappada, on Monte Civetta or in
the Biois Valley and in the Zoldano area – while
horse-riding enthusiasts will find well-equipped
riding schools and riding centres, able to satisfy
the needs of all kinds of riders. In the province
of Belluno there are 6 riding centres which
belong to the FISE (Italian Equestrian Sports
Federation), and the whole of the Belluno area
offers an array of opportunities for simply
trotting along on horseback and enjoying the
wonderful natural landscape.

Saddle up and head off to
the Lunelli Refuge
Un’alternativa alle belle ed emozionanti escursioni verso i rifugi e le vette dolomitiche è
quella di trascorrere qualche ora in sella, per una piacevole passeggiata a cavallo. Una
proposta adatta a tutti, dai principianti ai più esperti, è la gita di mezza giornata che
parte da Padola per raggiungere il rifugio Lunelli. La partenza è prevista per le 8.30 e
dopo un breve e rapido coordinamento si intraprende il sentiero CAI 151 che costeggia
l’ampia vallata di Padola nella zona di Valgrande, da dove si intravedono tra gli
alberi le Terme delle Dolomiti. Dopo mezz’ora di cammino circa, si lascerà il sentiero
per proseguire lungo un tracciato circondato da un suggestivo bosco di conifere, che
appaga i sensi con il suo verde ed il suo profumo intenso. Due ore di cammino e la nostra
meta è raggiunta: il rifugio Lunelli è situato nella bellissima conca di Selvapiana,
sotto gli spalti rocciosi del Crestòn Popera. Una breve e meritata sosta per godersi lo
stupendo panorama ed individuare il Passo della Sentinella … ed arriva presto l’ora di
rientrare …

A hike up to the refuges and the mountain peaks of the Dolomites is certainly
spectacular and exciting; but if you’re looking for an alternative, how about a relaxing
couple of hours in the saddle? One option, suitable for everyone from beginners to
expert horse-riders, is the half-day trip which starts out from Padola and goes up to
the Lunelli Refuge. Departure is scheduled for 8.30, and after a quick coordination
consultation, riders set out along the Italian Alpine Club path number 151, which runs
around the wide Padola valley in the Valgrande area, from where you can just make
out the Terme delle Dolomiti spa area amid the trees. After about half an hour, come
off the path and continue along a route encircled by spectacular green, fragrant
conifer woods. Two hours later you will reach your destination: the Lunelli Refuge,
which lies in the stunningly-picturesque Selvapiana basin, under the rocky terracing of
the Crestòn Popera. A brief, well-deserved rest to take in the fantastic view and spot
the Sentinella Pass… and all of a sudden it’s time to undertake the return journey…

Su e giù per il monte Terza Piccola
Up and down Monte Terza Piccola
Si sviluppa tra la valle di Sappada ed il vicino Comelico questo percorso per mountain bike di circa 24 km su strada
asfaltata e sterrato, adatto ai biker più allenati – il tratto in salita è di circa 5 km, con una pendenza massima dell’11%.
Da Sappada (m. 1250), scendendo lungo la strada statale che porta a Campolongo di Cadore, si passa il ponticello sul
fiume Piave posto presso la Chiesa di Campolongo (m. 940) e si risale la strada della Val Frison, antica via di collegamento
tra il Comelico e la Val Pesarina, in Friuli. A 3 km e mezzo da Campolongo, poco dopo la Baita “Pian dei Osei”,
si incontra un bivio e si prosegue sulla strada sterrata che sulla sinistra sale al Passo Digola (m. 1655) e poi scende a
Sappada. L’itinerario percorre l’anello che circonda il massiccio del Monte Terza Piccola, ai piedi del Gruppo montuoso
delle Terze e delle Crete di Mimoias, con magnifici panorami sulle Dolomiti sappadine e attraverso il verde bosco della
Digola.

This route between the Sappada Valley and the neighbouring Comelico is about 24 km long, and runs on both asphalt
and dirt-track road. It is suitable for experienced mountain bikers, as there is an uphill stretch of about 5 km, with a slope
of up to 11%. From Sappada (1250 m), cycle down the SS trunk road which leads to Campolongo di Cadore, cross
the little bridge over the River Piave near the Church of Campolongo (940 m) and then up the Val Frison road, which
used to link the Comelico to the Val Pesarina, in Friuli. 3 ½ km from Campolongo, just after the “Pian dei Osei” mountain
chalet, you will come to a crossroads; from here, continue along the dirt-track road which runs up on the left to the
Digola Pass (1655 m) and then descend towards Sappada. The route runs around the Monte Terza Piccola massif, at
the foot of the mountain group of the Terze and the Crete di Mimoias, with magnificent views over the Sappada Dolomites
and through the greenery of the Digola woodlands.

Arte e natura, meglio se in mountain bike

Si snoda nel territorio di Lentiai questo itinerario di media difficoltà (dislivello massimo di 1000 m.), ideale per chi desidera trascorrere una
giornata all’insegna della scoperta di piccoli tesori d’arte e di ampi spazi nel verde. Il tracciato, che si svolge su strada asfaltata e sterrato per circa
20 km, parte dalla chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta in piazza a Lentiai (m. 261), dove si conserva un pregevole polittico della scuola di Tiziano.
Imboccando la carrozzabile per Stabie, dopo circa 300 metri ci si immette a sinistra nel sentiero per Colderù (m. 740), dov’è consigliata la visita
alla chiesetta affrescata di S. Giacomo. Continuando poi per Col Fontal si giunge a Pian di Coltura (m. 740), rinomata per l’eccezionale fioritura
del narciso che qui crea veri e propri “tappeti” bianchi e profumati. Proseguendo, si arriva in località Fontana (m. 900) che offre con il Rifugio
“da Baioc” un panoramico punto di ristoro. Si procede dunque verso Malga Garda (m. 1231) attraverso boschi di latifoglie e distese erbose, dove
si possono incontrare cerbiatti, caprioli e, con un po’ di fortuna, anche l’aquila reale. In prossimità della malga si imbocca il sentiero a sinistra e si
inizia la discesa verso l’antico centro rurale di Boschi, per poi rientrare a Lentiai.

Art and nature – all the more appealing by mountain bike
This medium-difficulty itinerary runs through the Lentiai area, with a maximum level difference of 1000 m, and is ideal for those who fancy
spending a day pedalling through wide-open green spaces on the lookout for little art treasures. The route, which runs along asphalt and dirt-track
roads for around 20km, starts out from the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in the square in Lentiai (261m), in which there is a fine polyptych
from the Titian school. Take the carriage road for Stabie, and after around 300 metres, turn right onto the path for Colderù (740m), where you
should stop off for a visit to the little frescoed Church of S.
Giacomo. Continuing on up Col Fontal, you will reach Pian di
Coltura (740m), famous for the superb spectacle of narcissus
flowers in bloom which form a fragrant white carpet on the
grass. From here, move on to Fontana (900m), where the “da
Baioc” Refuge offers refreshments and superb views, and then
proceed through broadleaf wood and fields towards Malga
Garda (1231m), a mountain pasture where you may come
upon fawns, roe deer, or – if you’re really lucky – even a golden
eagle. Near the mountain pasture, take the path on the left and
begin the descent down towards the little old village of Boschi,
and from there back to Lentiai.

Civetta bike tour
Da Alleghe, utilizzando gli impianti di risalita (possibilità di acquisto giornaliero
per bikers), saliamo fino ai 1922 m. del Col dei Baldi. Da qui inforchiamo
le bici e scendiamo sulla destra fino a raggiungere Malga Pioda; proseguiamo
sempre su strada bianca in discesa ed arriviamo in località Palafavera
(possibilità di ristoro). Nei pressi del Rifugio Palafavera giriamo a sinistra e
percorriamo la carrareccia che costeggia il Rio Canedo fino a raggiungere la
Malga Boi-Vescovà, dove ci godiamo una meritata sosta apprezzando la
genuinità dei prodotti preparati in casera. Ristorati, riprendiamo il percorso
in direzione del Col dei Baldi, che guadagniamo con un po’ di fatica visti i
circa 190 metri di dislivello! Arrivati alla cima possiamo scegliere se ritornare
ad Alleghe con seggiovia e telecabina, oppure scendere in bici sulla strada
bianca che raggiunge i Piani di Pezzè, per poi proseguire sulla comunale
fino in paese. L’itinerario ci impegna per circa 3 ore nel caso si utilizzino gli
impianti in salita e in discesa, per circa 5 ore e mezza invece senza l’ausilio
degli impianti di risalita.

From Alleghe, take the chair lift (mountain bikers can purchase a daily pass)
up to Col dei Baldi (1922 m). From here, get on your bike and pedal down
on the left until you reach the Malga Pioda mountain dairy hut; continue
down along a dirt-track road to Palafavera, where you can find refreshment.
Near the Palafavera Refuge, turn left and cycle along the cartroad which runs
alongside the Rio Canedo brook, until you come to the Malga Boi-Vescovà,
where you can stop for a well-earned rest and enjoy some of the fine, genuine
dairy products made there. Once you’ve recharged your batteries, set off
again towards Col dei Baldi – it’s not an easy ride up there, since there’s a
level difference of about 190 metres! When you reach the top, you can decide
whether to return to Alleghe by chairlift or cablecar, or cycle down on the
dirt-track road which leads to the Piani di Pezzè, and from there along the
local road to the village. The whole route will take you about 3 hours if you take
the chairlift up and down, while if you prefer to cycle all the way you’ll need
about 5 ½ hours to complete the itinerary.

Due ruote tra arte e natura
Pedalling along amid art and nature
“Camminare, pedalare ed ammirare i nostri paesi”: è questo il titolo della nuova proposta che la Val di Zoldo e
Zoppè di Cadore riservano agli amanti della mountain bike per l’estate 2008. Nell’ambito del progetto, curato dal
Consorzio Pro Loco Zoldo e finanziato dalla Regione Veneto, sono stati predisposti 14 itinerari, che percorrono
tutta la valle arrivando a toccarne i punti più panoramici ed i luoghi che conservano i piccoli tesori del patrimonio
storico-artistico locale. Sono disponibili tracciati semplici, adatti anche ai principianti, ma numerose sono anche
le proposte per i biker più esperti ed allenati. I percorsi, contraddistinti da diversi colori a seconda del livello di
difficoltà, sono facilmente rintracciabili grazie alle bacheche illustrative installate nei punti di partenza degli itinerari
ed alle tabelle segnaletiche disseminate lungo il percorso. Maggiori informazioni sono disponibili presso gli

“Walk, cycle and admire our landscape”: this is the Val di Zoldo and Zoppè di Cadore’s suggestion this
summer for mountain bike enthusiasts. Under this project, carried out by the Consortium of Pro Loco Tourist
Associations of the Zoldo area and financed by the Veneto Region, 14 itineraries have been mapped out, which run through
the whole valley and touch upon the most beautiful landscapes and the places which are home to some veritable little gems of the
historical and cultural heritage of the area. A number of simple routes are available, suitable even for beginners, but there are also plenty of
options for more experienced, trained mountain bikers. The routes, specially colour-coded according to the level of difficulty they present,
are easy to find and to follow thanks to the illustrative panels installed at the beginning of the trails and the signposts and tables set out
along the route. Further information is available from tourist information offices in the Valley, where you can also purchase the altimetry maps
which contain detailed indications on the routes.

Il 15 giugno la città di Feltre ospita la 14.ma edizione della Gran Fondo Internazionale Campagnolo.
La manifestazione ciclistica, organizzata dal Pedale Feltrino Tbh, porterà migliaia di amatori di tutto il
mondo in alcuni dei luoghi più suggestivi del Bellunese, con partenza ed arrivo da Feltre. Due i percorsi
da affrontare: il Gran Fondo di 216 km e 5.300 metri di dislivello complessivo e il Medio Fondo
di 110 km con 2000 metri di dislivello. Una Gran Fondo che è già stata definita per la sua durezza
simile ad una tappa da Tour de France, con sei salite tra le più suggestive delle Dolomiti bellunesi: Forcella
Franche, Passo Duran, Forcella Staulanza, Passo Valles, Passo Rolle e Passo Croce d’Aune con
il passaggio davanti al monumento dedicato a Tullio Campagnolo, inventore del primo bloccaggio per
ruota a sgancio rapido, che dà il nome alla manifestazione. Il 14 giugno invece, come da tradizione,
l’appuntamento è con i giovanissimi e la loro Mini Gran Fondo Sportful.

Six climbs, four Passes, 216 Km:
the Gran Fondo Campagnolo
On the 15th of June, the city of Feltre will host the 14th edition of the Campagnolo International
Long Distance Race. This cycling event, organized by the Pedale Feltrino Tbh Association, will
attract thousands of amateur cyclists from all over the world to a race which starts and ends
in Feltre and runs through some of the most beautiful places in the Belluno area. There are two
routes to choose from: the Long Distance route - 216 km long, with a total level difference of
5300 metres – and the Middle Distance Route - 110 km long with a level difference of 2000
metres. The Gran Fondo is such a challenging race that it has been likened to a stage on the Tour
de France, with six of the most spectacular climbs in the Belluno Dolomites: the Franche saddle,
the Duran Pass, the Staulanza saddle, the Valles Pass, the Rolle Pass and the Croce d’Aune Pass,
passing by the monument to Tullio Campagnolo, who invented the first quick-release skewer, and
after whom the event is named. The day before the main event, the 14th of June, will see the
traditional children’s race, the Mini Gran Fondo Sportful.
22/06 - Arabba
CRONOSCALATA ARABBA-PASSO PORDOI
Classicissima per amatori e cicloturisti,
inserita nel circuito Ama Tour che premia il
cicloamatore più regolare della stagione, è
una delle salite più tecniche dell’intero arco
alpino. Partenza in piazza ad Arabba (m.
1610) ed arrivo, dopo 13 km, ai 2240 metri del
Passo Pordoi.
A classic race for amateurs and cycle tourists,
part of the Ama Tour circuit, which awards
a prize to the most regular performance by
an amateur cyclist. This is one of the most
technical climbs in the whole of the alpine area.
Competitors depart from the square in Arabba
(1610 m) and after 13 km arrive on the Pordoi
Pass, at an altitude of 2240 metres.

per questa manifestazione non competitiva
e completamente gratuita. Lungo il percorso
sono previste iniziative e momenti di

Tra le innumerevoli attrattive del territorio bellunese le pareti di roccia attrezzate per l’arrampicata sportiva costituiscono un elemento di
eccellenza. Da decenni migliaia di turisti veneti, italiani e stranieri decidono di misurare le proprie abilità sulle falesie bellunesi. Nella valle del
Piave ci sono più di 750 itinerari attrezzati, la cui manutenzione è assicurata dai volontari del gruppo “Climband Belluno”. La passione e la
competenza del gruppo è raccolta in una guida che offre per la prima volta un panorama completo delle pareti e dei luoghi dove è possibile
praticare l’arrampicata lungo la valle del Piave. Corredato di foto e schede tecniche, il volume “Falesie della Valle del Piave” (edizioni Rocciaviva,
a cura di Climband Belluno, associazione aderente alla FASI - Federazione di Arrampicata Sportiva Italiana) comprende ben 14 siti di
scalata sportiva del bacino del Piave, per un totale di oltre 750 tiri: la splendida Val d’Oten in Cadore; la zona centrale longaronese di Erto,
Casso, Igne, Podenzoi; la storica parete di Sovèrzene, oltre ad altri autentici giardini di arrampicata come Nevegàl, Ceresèra e Fonzaso.

One of the many outstanding features of the Belluno area is the large number of specially-equipped practice walls for sports climbers. For
decades, thousands of visitors from all over the Veneto region, Italy and beyond, have been coming here to test their skills on the cliff faces
of Belluno. In the Piave Valley there are over 750 equipped routes scrupulously maintained by volunteers from the “Climband Belluno” group.
All the skill and the passion of this group has gone into a guidebook -“Falesie della Valle del Piave” (Cliffs of the Piave Valley) - which
offers, for the first time, an exhaustive overview of the rock walls and places where you can go climbing throughout the Piave Valley.
Published by Rocciaviva Edizioni and written by the Climband Belluno Association – a member of the Italian Sport Climbing Federation – the
guide contains 14 sport climbing sites in the Piave Basin, which provide a total of over 750 climbs: the splendid Val d’Oten in the Cadore area;
the central Longarone area of Erto, Casso, Igne and Podenzoi; the historic Soverzene wall and other climbing gardens such as Nevegàl,
Ceresèra and Fonzaso. The book’s authors are all passionate climbers in love with the area, and the total profits they gain from its sales will
be put back into taking care of it. The volume is complete with photos and route explanations, as well as notes on the history of the sites, an
important feature for a valley which has made such a significant contribution to sport climbing. There is also an English version available.

Tra le tante specialità dell’arrampicata sportiva, ultima nata nel Bellunese è senza dubbio il bouldering, che consiste nel salire brevi percorsi
particolarmente difficili in sicurezza, con cadute su comodi tappetoni, in genere da un massimo di non più di 2 metri d’altezza. Può essere
praticato su sassi rocciosi, in ambienti naturali spesso splendidi, come pure su apposite strutture artificiali anche indoor, che naturalmente
non risentono delle condizioni climatiche esterne, quando queste sono proibitive, oppure offrono scarse ore di luce. Nelle strutture artificiali il
bouldering diviene, oltre che luogo di ritrovo per attività scolastica e didattica e di allenamento, anche pratica agonistica, sia per la prima età
scolare (ludica), sia per ragazzi e giovani di tutti i livelli. La passione per i “blocchi” (boulders), fortemente socializzante, ha contagiato anche

The latest exciting sport climbing variant to
reach the Belluno area is undoubtedly bouldering,
which involves climbing up particularly difficult,
short routes, or “problems”, then letting go
and dropping – generally from no higher than 2
metres – onto a crash pad below. Bouldering can
be practised on rocks, often in splendid natural
surroundings, or on structures designed specially
for the purpose; these structures may also be
indoor, allowing fans to climb independently
of the weather conditions or the natural light.
These artificial structures are often frequented
by school groups, for educational and training
activities, as well as for competitions, both fun
events for younger schoolchildren and more
seriously competitive events for older students.
The passion for the “blocks” (boulders) is very
much a “social” sport, great for meeting other
climbers, and it has really taken hold among
climbing fans of all ages in Belluno, both indoor
– in the Belluno Palasport Sports Centre (tel. +39
0437 940488) – and outdoor, in areas such as
Mas, the San Lucano Valley, the Vesès Valley and
Cimagogna in the Cadore area.

Un’escursione per tre rifugi
A hike which takes in three refuges
Visitare in un unico giorno tre rifugi alpini non è impresa riservata agli
alpinisti o a camminatori esperti. Da San Vito di Cadore facili sentieri
di montagna conducono agevolmente ai rifugi Scotter Palatini (m.
1580), San Marco (m. 1823) e Galassi (m. 2018). La passeggiata di
circa 4 ore non presenta particolari difficoltà, se non nella parte finale
per superare Forcella Piccola (m. 2120).
Dal centro di San Vito si raggiunge in breve tempo la località della
Baita della Zoppa: da qui si prosegue in seggiovia o lungo la strada
sterrata fino al Rifugio Scotter, da dove godere della veduta del
monte Pelmo. Proseguendo sul ghiaione e poi su un sentiero facile e
tortuoso, si raggiunge in 30 minuti circa il Col de chi de Oss, dosso
alberato sulle propaggini meridionali della cima Bel Pra. Qui sorge
l’antico e storico Rifugio San Marco (m. 1823) da dove si scende
agevolmente attraverso i ghiaioni per il sentiero n. 227. La fitta
vegetazione di pini mughi lascia il posto ai detriti man a mano che
ci si avvicina alla Forcella Piccola (m. 2120) tra i monti Antelao e
Scotter. Da qui si raggiunge facilmente il Rifugio Galassi (m. 2018),
originariamente costruito per scopi militari.
Pelmo. Move on from there across the scree and then on to an easy,
winding path which will take you in about 30 minutes to Col de chi de
Oss, a tree-covered rise on the southern ramifications of the Bel Pra
peak. Here you will find the ancient, historical San Marco Refuge
(1823m), from where there is an easy descent down scree onto path
number 227. The thick mugo pine wood gives way to detritus as
you approach the Forcella Piccola saddle (2120m) between Mount
Agner and Mount Scotter. From here you can easily reach the Galassi
Refuge (2018m), originally built for military purposes.

To visit three mountain refuges in a single day you don’t necessarily
have to be a mountaineer or an expert hiker. From San Vito di Cadore,
a number of easy mountain paths lead comfortably to the Scotter
Palatini (1580m), San Marco (1823m) and Galassi (2018m) Refuges.
The walk, which lasts about 4 hours, presents no particular
difficulties, except on the final stretch over the Forcella Piccola
saddle (2120m). From the centre of San Vito you will soon reach
Baita della Zoppa: from here take the chairlift or the dirt-track road
to the Scotter Refuge, from where there is a superb view of Monte

Night-time road races
Un’estate all’insegna dello sport e della grande atletica nel Bellunese:
sabato 2 agosto si corre la 17^ edizione de Le Miglia di Agordo,
competizione internazionale di corsa su strada con ben 13 gare su
circuito cittadino, per categorie giovanili e master. In programma dopo
le 21 le due grandi sfide, femminile e maschile, fra i migliori atleti italiani
e supercampioni di Kenya, Etiopia, Marocco e Uganda. Sabato 30
agosto appuntamento a Feltre con la 20^ edizione del Giro delle
Mura di Feltre. Tra le gare più spettacolari la corsa ad eliminazione
Seven Laps ed il Giro
delle Mura, riservato ai
migliori interpreti della
corsa internazionale. Nel
pomeriggio la gara per
amatori, il Campionato dei
Vigili del Fuoco ed il Miglio
dei Comuni riservato alle

Fourteen hikes on the Dolomites to discover
just how alluring the Agordino area is when
seen from above. This is the suggestion put
forward by the Caprile Civetta-Marmolada
sub-section of the Italian Alpine Club. During
the series of trips, challenging hikes will
alternate with easier walks and
non-competitive races, although all the
routes are at altitude. Below are the trips

athletics will offer
visitors plenty of thrills
in the Belluno area. Saturday the 2nd of August Agordo will host
the 17th edition of the Miglia di Agordo: 13 competitions will be held
on the route in the town, for card-carrying members of all the youth
and master categories. Don’t miss the last two exciting challenges,
in which the finest male and female Italian athletes and the greatest
champions from Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco and Uganda will do battle
with each other. On Saturday the 30th of August it will be the
turn of the 20th edition of the Giro delle Mura di Feltre, with the
knock-out competition Seven Laps and the race reserved for the finest
international runners, the Giro delle Mura itself, which will be preceded
in the afternoon by the race for amateurs, the European Firefighters’
Championship and the Miglio dei Comuni for younger runners.

della precedente edizione – oltre 80 i vespisti partecipanti - Falcade torna ad ospitare le mitiche
vespe colorate, che sfrecceranno lungo le vie dei paesi e delle frazioni di tutta la Valle del Biois. Sede

On the 12th and 13th of July, Falcade will be hosting the third annual VespaRaduno, a rally for
aficionados of the famous Vespa motor scooter. After the success of last year’s edition, Falcade is
delighted to welcome back the “vespisti”, who will be zipping through the streets of the town and
zooming across the whole of the surrounding Biois Valley on their colourful scooters. The official rally
headquarters will be set up at the Park Hotel Arnica in Falcade.

una montagna di SPORT
Un torrente di emozioni
Sport e natura si abbinano alla perfezione in Valle del Boite, dove
cresce l’offerta per i turisti che desiderano svolgere attività in

A torrent of emotions
Sport and nature make a perfect couple in the Boite Valley, where
tourists in search of an unspoilt environment are finding more
and more to do. The Boite Torrent, for example, is ideal for sport
fishing. The section of the torrent between San Vito and Borca
di Cadore, with its wide bends and inlets, is less impetuous and
unruly than the stretch north of Cortina and is therefore perfect
for anglers, who can enjoy leaping from one rock to another with
their rod and reel in their hand. The torrent is rich in brown and
marble trout, unmistakeable thanks to their characteristic greyishwhite
colour, decorated with orangey-red acrylic tones.

Rombano i motori sul lago
E’ arrivato alla 58^ edizione il Gran Premio Motonautico del Cadore
che, come ogni anno, conclude la stagione agonistica del circuito della
motonautica. Sabato 30 e domenica 31 agosto, la cornice suggestiva
del lago di Santa Caterina ospita l’evento organizzato dallo Yachting
Club Serenissima con la collaborazione del Consorzio turistico Auronzo-
Misurina e del Comune di Auronzo. Il programma prevede lo svolgimento
dei Campionati Mondiali con la partecipazione di ben cinque categorie:
la 0/250/CI, la F. 1000 Int./CI, la F. 2000/CI, LA OSY 400/CI e la F. 500
CM. Tanti i nomi dei campioni attesi ad Auronzo, tra i quali il cadorino
Umberto Valentini.

This year sees the 58th edition of the Cadore Motorboat Gran Prix,
which will once again bring the motorboat competition season to a close.
On Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August, the spectacular setting
of Santa Caterina Lake will play host to the event, which will be organized
by the Serenissima Yachting Club, in collaboration with the Auronzo-
Misurina Tourist Association and the Municipality of Auronzo. This
World Championship event will see the participation of five motorboat
categories: 0/250/CI, F. 1000 Int./CI, F. 2000/CI, OSY 400/CI and F.
500 CM. A range of big names in the sport are expected to take part,
among them the local star Umberto Valentini.

Gli Europei possono aspettare: c’è la Marmolada Cup
Gli Europei di calcio? Belli, certo, ma non hanno paragone con le partite del mio bambino. Se poi riesco ad abbinare pure una vacanza sulla
Marmolada, beh, allora i campionati europei di calcio possono proprio aspettare. Il 27 e 28 Giugno 2008 ai piedi della Regina delle Dolomiti si
svolge infatti il 1° Torneo Internazionale di calcio dedicato alla categoria Esordienti (nati nel biennio 1995/96) a cui partecipano 12 squadre.
Allenatori, dirigenti e genitori seguiranno i piccoli calciatori nel campo di calcio in erba a Bosco Verde dove sono in programma almeno quattro
partite al giorno. Programma e orario delle gare sono disponibili nella bacheca del campo di calcio.

Europe can wait: first, there’s the Marmolada Cup
The European championships? Great stuff, no doubt about it – but they can’t compete with my little boy’s football matches. And if I can
combine my son’s sporting aspirations with a holiday on the “Queen of the Dolomites”, well there’s really no doubt about it – Europe can wait.
On the 27th and 28th of June 2008, the 1st International Football Tournament will be held at the foot of the Marmolada, with the
participation of 12 teams from the “Esordienti” age category (players born in the years 1995 and 96). Coaches, team managers and parents
will be watching the young players measuring up against each other on the Bosco Verde football fields, which will host a minimum of four
matches per day. The competition programme, with the times of all the matches, can be viewed on the notice board of the football field.

all’ombra delle Tofane
L’Associazione Curling Cortina organizza dal 26 al 29 giugno 2008 il 43° Torneo
Internazionale di Curling, con la partecipazione dei migliori giocatori a livello
europeo e mondiale. Il Torneo è riservato a 28 squadre provenienti da tutta Europa e
ad alcune dal Canada e Stati Uniti.
Cortina è una tra le poche località in Italia a poter disporre di una struttura permanente
esclusivamente dedicata a questo sport, il che fa sì che a Cortina vengano
disputate pressoché tutte le manifestazioni agonistiche di maggior rilievo. L’impianto
riveste inoltre un importante ruolo promozionale, in quanto a disposizione anche per
turisti e neofiti che ogni anno affollano il centro per sperimentare questa disciplina
sportiva.

in the shadow of the Tofane
From the 26th to the 29th of June 2008, the Cortina Curling Association will be
hosting the 43rd International Curling Tournament, in which some of the finest
European and international players will be taking part. The Tournament is reserved for
28 teams from all over Europe and also a few from Canada and the USA.
Cortina is one of the few places in Italy which boasts a permanent structure used
exclusively for curling, and therefore it is here that almost all the most important
competitive events are held. The curling centre also plays an important promotional
role, because both tourists and novice curlers flock to it every year to try out the
sport.

sulle Tre Cime di Lavaredo
L’aquila bianco celeste vola sulle Dolomiti. La Lazio ha programmato
ad Auronzo di Cadore il proprio ritiro in preparazione della
prossima stagione agonistica. Da domenica 13 a giovedì 31
luglio la formazione romana si allenerà ai piedi delle Tre Cime
e in riva al lago di Santa Caterina, dove i tifosi di calcio e della
Lazio in particolare vedranno prendere forma la squadra che ha
tutte le carte in regola per scalare le posizioni che contano nel
prossimo campionato di serie A.

Football’s Serie A teams have discovered Sappada. After
Torino’s stay here in 2006, it is now the turn of Udinese. The
team from Friuli has chosen Sappada for its summer retreat to
prepare and train for the 2008-2009 season. For three weeks
in July, players and fans of Udinese will liven up the town,
well-known for its hospitable people, excellent cooking and one
of the most beautiful landscapes in the Dolomites.

Camminare giovane su Via Alpina
Una nuovissima serie di percorsi, dal titolo “Camminare giovane su Via Alpina”, è da quest’anno dedicata ai ragazzi, mirata al loro mondo
ed alle loro esigenze. Il progetto, realizzato in collaborazione con il CAI del Veneto, è collegato a Via Alpina: una grande rete di sentieri che
attraversa tutto l’arco alpino, collegando Trieste, sulla costa Adriatica, con Montecarlo ed il Mediterraneo. Un sentiero attraverso l’Europa
che favorisce gli incontri con le popolazioni, le loro feste e tradizioni, percorrendo un totale di 5.000 km, punteggiati da 340 tappe che, dal
livello del mare, salgono fino a tremila metri di quota.
Il passaggio della Via Alpina nelle Dolomiti Bellunesi è tra i più interessanti, con un affascinante percorso che dal cuore del Cadore passa
sotto l’imponente monte Antelao, giungendo a pochi chilometri da Cortina d’Ampezzo. Procedendo è possibile ammirare le maestose pareti
del Monte Pelmo e visitare l’importante sito archeologico dell’Uomo di Mondeval. Si giunge, infine, al Passo Pordoi, in un paesaggio ricco di
testimonianze della Prima Guerra Mondiale, sotto l’occhio attento e maestoso della Regina delle Dolomiti: la Marmolada.
Walks for young people on the Via Alpina
This summer, younger visitors to the area will find a brand-new series of routes planned
especially for them. The series is entitled “Walks for young people on the Via Alpina”
and the project, carried out with the collaboration of the Veneto sections of the Italian
Alpine Club, is linked to the Via Alpina: a wide-ranging network of paths which covers the
whole of the alpine area, linking Trieste, on the Adriatic coast, with Montecarlo and the
Mediterranean.
This trail across Europe encourages interaction between the various peoples, each
with their own festivals and traditions, and runs for a total of 5000 km, divided up into
340 stages, which climb up from sea level to an altitude of three thousand metres. The
stretch which runs through the Belluno Dolomites is one of the most interesting, with a
superb route which starts out from the heart of the Cadore area, passes beneath the
striking rock walls of the Antelao and moves on to just a few kilometres from Cortina
d’Ampezzo.
As you walk along, you can admire the magnificent mountainsides of Monte Pelmo
and visit the fascinating archaeological site where Mondeval Man was found. Finally
you will reach the Pordoi Pass, an area in which you will find a host of reminders of the
bloody events of the 1st World War, under the regal, watchful eye of the Queen of the
Dolomites, the Marmolada.

non finiscono mai
A Falcade, d’estate, il divertimento non finisce mai. Se volete fare un po’ di fatica, partite dal
campeggio in località Molino, magari di sera, e andate fino al Mulaz: l’alba, con i suoi colori
mozzafiato, vi lascerà a bocca aperta! Se invece le salite non sono il vostro forte, potete fare
un semplice giro per le frazioni alte di Falcade, lungo il sentiero panoramico che da Le Coste
sovrasta l’intera vallata: potrete scoprire gli innumerevoli tabià in legno e le tante fontane
decorate da fiori coloratissimi. Se la speleologia vi appassiona, andate a forcella Lagazzon (m.
1356) e proseguite fino al lago di origine vulcanica Lach dei Negher (m. 2286): scoprirete
l’origine della leggenda del “Drago dei Negher”, e la bellezza delle sue grotte, belle profonde.
Avete voglia di organizzare con i vostri amici dei tornei di calcetto, volley o tennis?
Allora il Parco di Falcade è il posto giusto per voi! Tanto verde, dove prendere il sole, organizzare
pic-nic e grigliate, fare una passeggiata o anche solo due chiacchiere in compagnia,
mentre i più piccini potranno scatenarsi nell’area gonfiabili. Alla sera, niente di meglio di una
bella pizza, una cena al rifugio, oppure una tappa alle feste della birra organizzate da birrerie e
pub locali. Forte, vero? Io verrei a Falcade a fare un giro… che ne dite?

Never-ending summer fun

There really is no end to the fun in Falcade during the summer. If you don’t mind a little hard work, you might like to set off from the campsite
in Molino, perhaps in the evening, and head up to Mulaz to watch the sun come up: the stunning colours of dawn breaking here will leave
you speechless! If you don’t feel up to such a strenuous climb, a more relaxing option is a simple trip around the wards in the upper part
of Falcade, along the path which departs from Le Coste and offers fantastic views out over the whole of the valley below: look out for
the numerous wooden traditional haysheds and the fountains adorned with colourful flowers. If you’re a speleology fan, then head for the

sei al Centro Didattico Ambientale
VALPORE, in comune di Seren del Grappa,
posto su un promontorio a 1276 metri sul
versante settentrionale del massiccio del
Grappa.
L’acqua si ottiene da un
impianto con 2 cisterne
per il recupero dell’acqua
piovana con relativo debatterizzatore
e l’elettricità
da 60 pannelli solari, un
impianto eolico ed un
gruppo elettrogeno di
supporto. Unica fonte di
energia non rinnovabile è
il serbatoio per il gas. Un
soggiorno a Valpore offre
numerose opportunità per
praticare attività sportive e
per approfondire gli aspetti
naturalistici, antropologici e
storici del territorio, anche
con il supporto delle “Aule

Silence. Wherever you turn, beech and fir
trees stretch out as far as the eye can see.
You can run for what seems like forever
through the fields, pedal along the paths
on your mountain bike, stop to admire a
passing roe deer with your binoculars…
Here there’s no electricity, nor even an
aqueduct, and you feel you’re completely
isolated from the outside world. But you’re
wrong; this is the outside world, and
you’re at the VALPORE Environmental
Education Centre, in the municipality of
Seren del Grappa, on a headland at an
altitude of 1276 metres on the northern
face of the Grappa massif. Water is
provided using a system consisting of
two cisterns which collect rainwater
and a sterilizer to eliminate bacteria;
electricity is provided using 60 solar
panels, a windpower system and a backup
generator. The only non-renewable
energy source used is the gas tank. A
stay at Valpore offers a whole range of
opportunities to play sports and learn more
about the nature, anthropology and history
of the area, perhaps with the help of the
Centre’s Green Rooms which are provided
with useful educational support material.
The Centre is open from May to October,
is run according to a self-management
system and sleeps 34.

Learn to play football on the Marmolada
From the 5th to the 14th of August 2008, from 17.00 on the Bosco Verde football field,
children between 6 and 12 can try their hand – or rather their feet – at football. The expert
coach Luciano Cucco (from the Technical Sector of the Italian Football Federation, and
also Vice-President of the Milan section of the Italian Football Referees Association) will
give the young aspiring footballers a basic grounding in playing techniques. All the
children taking part will be presented with a souvenir t-shirt, and snacks will be
provided daily. Enrolment is free of charge.

Un itinerario alla scoperta del territorio e dei suoi sapori più genuini. I formaggi sono una singolare porta di accesso per conoscere le
Dolomiti bellunesi. Dal Casel bellunese al Zumelle, dal rinomato Piave ai tradizionali Malga e Schiz, dai ladini Contrin e Fodom allo Zigher.
Ogni formaggio custodisce una storia e racconta degli uomini e delle donne che lo lavorano e lo producono, oggi come un tempo, secondo
antiche ricette della tradizione contadina.
Le produzioni tradizionali sono 18, a cui si aggiungono 11 formaggi tipici e 4 prodotti interamente biologici, segno di quanto il formaggio
sia stato e sia ancora importante per l’economia locale. Il panorama della produzione comprende 12 latterie cooperative e 22 tra aziende
agricole, e malghe, mentre sono 38 i ristoratori che propongono abitualmente questi autentici frutti della tradizione. Tutti insieme costituiscono

The fact that the area boasts 18
traditional varieties, 11 typical cheeses
and four fully organic varieties is indicative
of how important cheese has been – and
still is – to the local economy. Cheese is
produced in 12 cooperative dairies and
on 22 farms and mountain dairy huts,
while 38 local restaurants offer these
genuine, traditional cheeses on their
menus. Together, these establishments
make up the Cheese Route of the
Belluno Dolomites, an itinerary along
which visitors can explore the hidden
natural, historical and artistic treasures of
the whole of the Belluno area. For more

Gelato,
una tradizione bellunese
La nascita del gelato e la sua comparsa nelle
valli Bellunesi, in particolare quella di Zoldo e
del Cadore, è legata alla indiscussa capacità
dei “montanari” di sfruttare le materie prime e
di adattarsi alle situazioni più diverse.
Per far fronte a una profonda crisi economica
che nella seconda metà dell’800 colpì la Val
di Zoldo e il Cadore, i valligiani iniziarono
a trasferirsi a Nord delle Alpi e, oltre a
lavorare come minatori, falegnami e fabbri,
per “sbarcare il lunario” iniziarono a fare i
venditori ambulanti di caldarroste e pere
cotte. L’abbondanza di neve e ghiaccio
naturali e di luoghi refrigerati anche d’estate
(grotte e acqua di torrente) fece venire l’idea
di produrre qualcosa di diverso. Nacque così
il gelato e la sua distribuzione con i tipici
carretti.
Lo spirito intraprendente dei nostri avi fu
determinante per trasformare il “carretto” in
vera e propria gelateria. Le ricette tramandate
di padre in figlio, la serietà e un pizzico di
fantasia nel lavoro quotidiano hanno poi fatto
il successo di questo dessert. Il passaggio
dal gelato artigianale, fatto con l’uso di
sorbettiere a manovella, a quello “moderno”
è una conseguenza spontanea delle sempre
più sofisticate tecnologie dei macchinari e
delle più rigide norme igieniche. Ma oggi c’è
chi rispolvera i vecchi strumenti e ripropone
il gelato preparato a mano, come avveniva
fino a metà del secolo scorso. In Zoldo,
l’associazione Piodech Zoldan da tempo
lavora al recupero della tradizione del gelato
all’antica.
Ice cream, a tradition
of the Belluno area
The origins of ice cream and of its
appearance in the valleys of the province of
Belluno, in particular the Zoldo and Cadore
valleys, is undoubtedly linked to the proverbial
talent of the mountain folk for making the
most of the raw materials at their disposal
and for adapting to circumstances.
The deep recession which hit the Val di
Zoldo and Cadore areas in the second half
of the 19th century forced the local valleydwellers
to move north, beyond the Alps, in
search of work as miners, carpenters and
blacksmiths; and in order to make ends meet,
they also started travelling around selling
roast chestnuts and stewed pears. Then
the abundance of snow and ice, as well as
areas such as caves and mountain streams
which could keep products “refrigerated”
even in the summer, provided them with the
inspiration for a new product, and thus they
came up with ice-cream, which they then
began selling on carts. The enterprising spirit
of our forebears meant that the humble carts
soon grew into bricks-and-mortar ice-cream
parlours, in which recipes were passed
down through the generations; this winning
combination of constant hard work and a
spark of creativity gradually made ice cream
the huge success it is today. The original
manually-operated sorbet makers have now
of course been replaced by increasingly
sophisticated machine technology, and
stringent health and safety measures have
been adopted; today, however, some of the
old-fashioned ice-cream making machines
are making a comeback, with hand-made ice
cream being prepared and sold just as it was
until the 1950s; in Zoldo, for example, the
Piodech Zoldan association has for some time
now been making traditional ice cream using
old-fashioned methods.

Selva di Cadore
Girosapori, alla scoperta della cultura locale
Torna quest’anno a Selva di Cadore il Girosapori 2008, il Gran Tour Enogastronomico
che l’Unione Nazionale delle Pro Loco Italiane propone per la valorizzazione
e la promozione delle tipicità d’eccellenza dei Borghi, selezionati nell’ambito del
progetto “Aperto per Ferie”. L’evento promuove non solo la conoscenza delle
innumerevoli tipicità eno-gastronomiche presenti sul territorio, ma avvicina il turista
al ricco patrimonio culturale e della tradizione locale. Ancora un’estate di scoperte
e di sapori, all’insegna della buona tavola, che allieterà coloro che visiteranno il piccolo
e suggestivo borgo di Selva: i ristoranti ed i rifugi che aderiscono all’iniziativa
offriranno menu a prezzo fisso e piatti a base di prodotti tipici del territorio. Particolarmente
conosciuti gli antipasti con delizie di cacciagione, le pappardelle al ragù di
cervo, i casunziei alle rape rosse con papavero fatti in casa, i canederli ed il pastin.
Ma tante sono le prelibatezze che Selva di Cadore riserva ai propri ospiti: arrosto
di cervo, salsicce e polenta, ravioli fatti in casa con il sugo di ragù, e per finire i
dolci tipici, primi fra tutti lo strudel di mele e la crostata alla marmellata.

Girosapori, a voyage of discovery

Once again this year Selva di Cadore will be hosting a leg on the Girosapori 2008 Grand Food and Wine Tour organized by the National Union of
Italian Pro Loco Tourist Associations with the aim of promoting the outstanding features characteristic of a range of small villages throughout the
nation. The event is designed to give visitors the chance to learn more not only about the numerous speciality food products and wines the areas
involved have to offer, but also about the rich cultural heritage and local traditions. This summer, visitors to the charming little village of Selva will
find a wealth of flavours and delicacies just waiting to be discovered, and the restaurants and mountain refuges taking part in the scheme will be
offering set-price menus and dishes made with typical local ingredients. Especially well-known are the starters made with game, the pappardelle pasta
with venison sauce, the home-made casunziei filled with red cabbage and sprinkled with poppy seeds, canederli and pastin (spiced raw sausage
meat). And these are but a few of the numerous delicacies Selva di Cadore has to offer visitors; the list continues with roast venison, sausages and
polenta, home-made ravioli with meat sauce, as well as a range of mouth-watering typical sweets to bring your meal to a tasty close.

Si rinnova quest’anno sulle cime delle Dolomiti l’appuntamento
con le Alte Vie del Gusto, il binomio di percorsi di alta
montagna e cucina tipica del Bellunese che invita i turisti,
passo dopo passo, ad apprezzare la genuinità dei prodotti
locali ed i sapori delle antiche ricette della tradizione. Sono
28 i rifugi alpini ed escursionistici della provincia di Belluno
che hanno aderito alla “Carta di Assicurazione Qualità”,
un impegno a garantire a tutti gli ospiti la possibilità di gustare
ogni giorno il Pastin ed altri piatti della cucina tipica, con
una particolare attenzione posta alla stagionalità dei piatti ed
alla tradizione della cucina bellunese. I gestori dei 28 rifugi
si sono inoltre impegnati ad utilizzare (e segnalare) nella
preparazione dei piatti quegli ingredienti che provengono
da aziende agricole, allevamenti e caseifici locali. Un invito,
dunque, alla scoperta delle tradizioni della buona tavola, ma
anche del piacere delle passeggiate in alta quota: oltre agli
itinerari ed ai percorsi nei luoghi di fascino delle Dolomiti
proposti da ciascun rifugio, quest’anno la guida delle Alte
Vie del Gusto si arricchisce di una selezione di itinerari che
consentono, area per area, di organizzare il proprio tour

A gourmet tour around
the mountain refuges
Once again this year the Dolomite peaks will be the scene of Alte Vie del Gusto, a
series of high-altitude routes on a culinary theme. Visitors are cordially invited to
explore, step by step, the wonderful world of typical Belluno cooking, replete with
a host of genuine, top-quality local flavours and food products skilfully prepared
according to traditional recipes. 28 mountain refuges in the province of Belluno
have adhered to the “Quality Assurance Charter”, thus expressing their commitment to
guaranteeing each and every guest the opportunity to enjoy typical local fare such as
Pastin (a kind of fresh, spiced sausage meat), with the emphasis on traditional dishes
made using seasonal products. The managers of the 28 refuges have undertaken to
indicate to customers the ingredients which come from local farms, stock breeders
and dairies. Come and join us on our hike along these high mountain trails, and at
the same time take a trip through our culinary heritage! In addition to the routes and
itineraries through the most fascinating places in the Dolomites suggested by each
individual refuge, this year the Alte Vie del Gusto guide will be enhanced with a series
of itineraries which will help visitors to organize tours which take in a number of
refuges, divided up into the various areas. The guide will be available from Dolomiti
Turismo’s headquarters and from tourist information offices in the province of Belluno.

Andar per fiere è un gioco di gusto
Torna, per la terza edizione consecutiva, l’appuntamento con le fiere ed i mercati di Dolomiti d’Autunno. Dal 15 agosto riparte, nel Bellunese,
il percorso attraverso i prodotti del territorio che ci porterà alla scoperta dei sapori, della cultura e della tradizione della provincia. Si
inizia ad Arsiè, a ferragosto, con la Fiera della Madonna di agosto, che animerà il piccolo borgo con bancarelle e la mostra dell’artigianato
locale. Dal 22 al 24 agosto appuntamento a Cesiomaggiore con la Festa provinciale della Patata ed i suoi stand gastronomici, mentre
il 13 settembre torna a Prompicai di Agordo il Mercato contadino, con esposizione e vendita dei prodotti locali. Ancora tutti in piazza a
Lentiai il 6, 7, 13 e 14 settembre per Mais a Lentiai – Festa della Polenta e della Tradizione, per riscoprire le ricette ed i sapori di un tempo.
Gli appuntamenti con Dolomiti d’Autunno proseguiranno numerosi fino alla fine di novembre, dando ai frequentatori più fedeli la possibilità
di vincere un gustoso cestino di prodotti bellunesi. Per partecipare al “Gioco del Gusto” basta frequentare le 12 manifestazioni, tra le 24
dell’intera rassegna, associate ad un prodotto tipico, degustare i prodotti gastronomici e richiedere, al momento del ritiro della consumazione,
l’apposizione del timbro nella casella del tabellone-gioco riservata all’evento. Per ricevere il cestino è necessario arrivare ad almeno 5
timbri e quindi partecipare ad almeno 5 delle 12 manifestazioni in programma. La guida della manifestazione è disponibile presso la sede di

From one tasty fair to another
This year sees the third edition of the Dolomiti d’Autunno series of food fairs and markets. From
the 15th of August, throughout the Belluno area, locals and visitors will be able to take a journey
through local food produce and find out more about the flavours, the culture and the traditions of
the province. The ball starts rolling in Arsiè, with the Madonna of August Fair, during which the
streets of the little village will come alive with an array of stalls and a local craft fair. From the
22nd to the 24th of August it is the turn of Cesiomaggiore and its Provincial Potato Festival,
while the 13th of September sees the return to Prompicai di Agordo of the Country Market.
The summer programme comes to a close in Lentiai, which on the 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th of
September plays host to Maize in Lentiai – a festival celebrating polenta and local traditions.
Dolomiti d’Autunno continues on well into the autumn, thus offering the most assiduous of visitors
the chance to win a delicious basket of local Belluno products. To take part in the “Taste Game”,
all you have to do is attend 12 out of a total of 24 events associated with a particular typical
product, sample the specialities on offer and, when you place your order, remember to ask for
a stamp in the appropriate box of the table on the special card reserved for the event. To be
awarded one of the baskets, you must have collected at least five stamps. The guide to the
events is available from the headquarters of Dolomiti Turismo and the tourist information offices
in the province.

Due passi tra arte e artigianato

Feltre e Belluno
Con l’arrivo della stagione estiva, tornano nel Bellunese i consueti appuntamenti con l’arte, l’artigianato e la tradizione. Dal 3 al 6 luglio, Feltre
ci dà appuntamento con la 22° Mostra dell’Artigianato Artistico e Tradizionale Città di Feltre. Anche quest’anno è prevista un’ampia
presenza di artigiani del legno, in particolare quelli del Trentino Alto Adige, del ferro battuto con l’ormai famoso concorso di forgiatura ma
anche di maestri artigiani del vetro, della pietra e della ceramica che riempiranno di mille oggetti gli androni degli antichi palazzi feltrini. Una
rassegna dei vecchi mestieri della Provincia di Belluno animerà le piazzette del Centro Storico ed una ricca esposizione di gustose specialità
locali e regionali stuzzicherà i sensi. Alle esposizioni dei lavori di artigianato, che annovereranno circa duecento partecipanti, si aggiungerà
una serie nutrita di manifestazioni collaterali dedicate all’arte, alla musica, al teatro ma anche all’intrattenimento dei più piccoli con laboratori
didattici dedicati. Per quattro giorni, tutto sarà gioioso, i locali rimarranno aperti fino a tarda sera ed il centro storico sarà illuminato a festa.
Sono invece quattro a Belluno gli appuntamenti estivi con il mercatino dell’usato e dell’antiquariato Cose di vecchie case. Domenica 22
giugno, 27 luglio, 24 agosto e 28 settembre oggetti d’arte, dell’antiquariato, dell’usato e da collezione rivivono nelle vie e nelle piazze
del centro storico di Belluno, facendone uno degli appuntamenti più attesi e frequentati della città. Un’occasione per scoprire Belluno ed i
suoi dintorni, con una piacevole passeggiata tra il Teatro Comunale dell’architetto Segusini
(1833-35) e la splendida chiesa gotica di S.Stefano (1486), tra l’ampia e mondana Piazza
dei Martiri e la caratteristica Piazza del Mercato, per poi raggiungere l’austera Piazza
Duomo sulla quale si affacciano i Palazzi del Municipio, della Prefettura e della Provincia,
l’Auditorium, il Museo e il Duomo con il suo campanile disegnato dall’architetto Juvarra.

A stroll for art
and craft lovers
The summer season sees the return to Belluno of a series of events sure to appeal to
those who enjoy arts, crafts and traditions. From the 3rd to the 6th of July, Feltre will
play host to the 22nd City of Feltre Traditional Regional Arts and Crafts Exhibition,
and once again this year the halls of the ancient buildings of the city centre will come alive
with the presence of an array of craftsmen working with wood, wrought iron (the forging
contest has by now acquired a certain fame), glass, stone and ceramics. A fascinating
exhibition of traditional trades from the province of Belluno will be held around the little
squares in the town centre, where visitors will also be tempted by a range of delicious
local and regional food specialities. The craft exhibition, in which over 200 artists are
expected to take part, will be accompanied by a variety of collateral events devoted not
only to art, music and theatre, but also to younger visitors, who will be invited to take part
in a series of entertaining educational workshops. All of this adds up to four splendid days’
fun and enjoyment for all, with bars and restaurants open until late and the streets of the
town centre twinkling with lights.
Over in Belluno, on the other hand, there will be four antique and second-hand markets for
visitors to browse round, known as Cose di vecchie case. These extremely busy Sunday

markets, popular with both tourists and locals,
will be held around the squares and streets of
the town centre on the 22nd of June, 27th
of July, 24th of August and 28th of
September, and will feature art objects,
antiques, second-hand objects and collectors’
items. A visit to the market also provides
an ideal opportunity to take a pleasant stroll
around Belluno and the surrounding area,
during which you might like to admire the
Municipal Theatre, built by the architect Segusini
(1833-35), or the splendid gothic Church of
Santo Stefano (1486), or to stroll between
the large, stylish Piazza dei Martiri and the
charming little Piazza del Mercato; and then
you can marvel at the austere beauty of Piazza
Duomo, surrounded by the Town Hall, the
Prefecture, the headquarters of the Provincial
Administration, the Auditorium, the Civic
Museum and last but not least, the Cathedral,
with the splendid bell tower designed by the
architect Juvarra.

La “Union De I Ladign De Zopè” rinnova l’arte di costruire gli scarpét, tipiche calzature bellunesi in stoffa e corda. Da alcuni anni, attraverso
il museo etnografico “Al Poiàt”, a Zoppè di Cadore sono organizzati corsi e dimostrazioni. Le suole si fanno con stracci vecchi, trapuntati
con lo spago intrecciato e passato attraverso la cera, fino a renderli duri e resistenti. Le tomaie invece sono di velluto nero e sono unite alla
suola con un lavoro certosino, quasi artistico.

The art of “scarpét” making
The“Union De I Ladign De Zopè” is committed to bringing the tradition of “scarpét” back to life. “Scarpét” are the traditional footwear typical
of the Belluno area, made with fabric and rope. For some years now, the association has been organizing courses and demonstrations, with
the collaboration of the “Al Poiàt” Ethnographical Museum in Zoppè di Cadore. The soles of the “scarpét” are made from strips of old cloth,
quilted with plaited rope and hardened by rubbing them with wax to make them more durable and resistant, while the uppers are made from
black velvet and bound to the sole using a meticulous, painstaking process which can almost be defined a work of art.

Fiori e costumi a Santa Maria Maiou
Voglia di musica con “Ra Bandes”
Bande in festa a Cortina per il 32° anno consecutivo. “Ra Festa de ra Bandes”, in ampezzano, quest’anno
è in programma dal 24 al 31 agosto. Una settimana piena di allegria, ogni sera diversi gruppi
allieteranno il paese con la loro musica.
Domenica 31 agosto, la sveglia è a suon di musica. La giornata prosegue con concerti e la tradizionale
sfilata lungo la via principale del paese delle associazioni sportive e culturali con i variopinti costumi
tradizionali, esibiti ormai solo in rare occasioni.

A passion for music: the “Ra Bandes” festival
For the 32nd consecutive year, from the 24th to the 31st of August, Cortina will be hosting the
Bands Festival, or “Ra Festa de ra Bandes” as it is called in the local dialect. This is sure to be an
enjoyable, action-packed week, with different groups bringing the town alive each night with their music.
On Sunday the 31st of August, Cortina will wake up to music, and the day will continue with a series
of concerts and the traditional parade through the main street, featuring members of sports and cultural
associations dressed in the colourful typical costumes of the area, which these days can be seen only
on rare occasions.

La festa di Santa Maria Maiou (Santa Maria Maggiore) è un evento imperdibile. Ogni anno il 15 di agosto, a Pieve di Livinallongo, viene ricordata la
fine della fienagione con una festa ricca di fiori e costumi. La manifestazione consiste nella messa nella chiesa di Pieve, durante la quale le donne
portano i loro fiori a benedire. Segue la sfilata per le vie del paese accompagnata dai carri allestiti dalle varie frazioni, dai canti del coro Fodom,
dalle musiche del gruppo Folk e dalla banda Giovanile da Fodom. Poi le donne spargeranno i fiori benedetti sul fieno, affinché la benedizione ricada
su di esso. Durante la festa, in cui si potranno degustare piatti tipici locali, oltre al carro più originale sarà premiata anche una personalità del Comune
o della Regione che ha avuto particolari benemerenze per lo sviluppo civile, sociale, culturale ed economico
della valle di Livinallongo.

Flowers and traditional dress for Santa Maria Maiou
The feast of Santa Maria Maiou (Santa Maria Maggiore) is a truly unmissable event. Every year on the 15th of
August a festival is held to mark the end of the haymaking, during which the local people wear traditional dress
and the village is bedecked with flowers. Mass is celebrated in the church of Pieve, and the local womenfolk
bring their flowers along to be blessed. This is followed by a parade through the village streets, where you can
admire floats prepared by the various wards. At the end of the parade, the women scatter their blessed flowers
upon the carpet of hay which covers the streets, so that the hay may also receive God’s blessing. During the
festival, visitors will have the chance to sample typical local dishes, and a prize will be awarded not only to the
most original float but to a person from the Municipality or the Region who has made a particularly significant
contribution to the civil, social, cultural and economic development of the Livinallongo Valley.

Dieci anni di Festival / The Festival is ten years old!
Tradizioni, cultura, costumi, amplificati dall’allegria, dalla musica, dalla danza: sono l’anima del Festival
del Folclore che dal 1999 si svolge a Sappada l’ultimo sabato di luglio. Il Festival vive grazie al
Gruppo Folcloristico degli Holzhockar: trentacinque fra musicisti e ballerini che da oltre trent’anni propone
danze mimiche, racconti in musica e gestualità dell’antico mondo del lavoro come il ballo del minatore
(Knoppe), la fienagione (Modartonz), la ruota del mulino (Mihlrad), il Ballo del Taglialegna.
Il 26 luglio saranno ospiti di Sappada il gruppo russo Chuvashi State Dance Ensemble, un gruppo di
Murcia (Spagna) e la Filarmonica in costume di Pozza di Fassa, che affiancheranno gli Holzhockar nella
manifestazione.

Traditions, culture and customs, enlivened by music and dance: this is what you will find at the Sappada
Folk Festival, which this year celebrates its tenth birthday on the last Saturday in July. The Festival
is held thanks to the Holzhockar Folk Group: thirty-five musicians and dancers who for over 30 years
have been performing dances and music which represent traditional trades and professions; just a few
examples are the Miners’ Dance (Knoppe), the Haymakers’ Dance (Modartonz), the Miller’s Wheel (Mihlrad)
and the Woodcutters’ Dance. On the 26th of July Sappada will welcome the Chuvashi State Dance
Ensemble from Russia, a group from Murcia in Spain and the Pozza di Fassa Philarmonic Society, who will
be dressed in traditional costume.

Il Palio dei Quindici Ducati
Il 15 giugno 1404 Vettore Muffoni, nobile feltrino, e Bartolomeo Nani, ambasciatore
veneziano, siglarono con i loro nomi l’atto di donazione spontanea che
Feltre faceva per entrare sotto la protezione della Serenissima. L’evento viene
ancor oggi rievocato il primo fine settimana di agosto (quest’anno dal 1 al 3
agosto), con il tradizionale Palio di Feltre. Per tre giorni il Palio riporta nel
presente un pezzo di storia ricreando un clima quattrocentesco. Contradaioli e
figuranti di Port’Oria, Santo Stefano, Castello e Duomo, oltre a darsi battaglia
nelle 4 specialità dei giochi (tiro con l’arco, tiro alla fune, staffetta e corsa dei
cavalli), ripropongono usi e costumi secolari. Le strade si animano di mercatini
antichi e di ogni sorta di spettacoli di ispirazione medioevale tra saltimbanchi,
sbandieratori, giullari e mangiafuoco.

The fifteen ducat Palio
Feltre
On the 15th of June 1404 Vettore Muffoni, a nobleman from Feltre, and
Bartolomeo Nani, the Venetian ambassador, undersigned the donation act with
which Feltre handed itself over to the protection of the Serenissima Republic.
This event is recalled every year during the first weekend in August (which this
year falls from the 1st to the 3rd), with the traditional Palio di Feltre. For
three days, the city relives an important moment in its history, recreating a 15th
century atmosphere. The residents of Feltre’s four historic “contrade” (districts)
do battle in four different activities (archery, tug-of-war, relay and horse-racing),
dress in typical costumes from the Middle Ages and stage displays of traditional
trades and arts and crafts. The streets of the city come alive with ancient-style
markets and all sorts of mediaeval-style performers, including acrobats, flagwavers,
jesters and fire-eaters.

Al Castello per chiedere perdono
Un giorno in stile medievale. Domenica 6 luglio al Castello di Zumelle rivive la Fiera della Perdonanza,
tradizione popolare secondo cui “Basta passare attraverso tutte le porte del castello per avere il perdono
di tutti i peccati”. Armigeri, artigiani, giocolieri, musici, falconieri e burattini, offriranno un’atmosfera suggestiva
a questo antico maniero del XIII Secolo. Accanto alla rievocazione, il ristorante propone un piatto
“della Perdonanza” di struttura povera ma genuina.
Quest’anno la fiera viene inoltre abbinata alla presentazione del nuovo punto vendita del castello, “Prodotti
della Valbelluna”: ci saranno le piccole aziende, selezionate per gamma di prodotti, a presentare le loro
particolari produzioni e sarà possibile assaporare molte delle specialità esposte. Inoltre, per tutta l’estate,
appuntamento con gli spettacoli per bambini “La Fata Fulva” (ore 10,30) e “I Racconti del Conte Murcimiro”
(ore16.00).

The Castle where all your sins will be forgiven
How would you like to take a trip back into the Middle Ages? On Sunday the 6th of July you can do just that at the ancient 13th century
Zumelle Castle, where the ancient Pardoning Fair will once again this year be re-enacted for visitors. Popular legend has it that “all you
have to do is pass through the gates of the castle and all your
sins will be forgiven”, and during the Fair armour-bearers,
craftsmen, jugglers, musicians, falconers and puppets will
recreate a fascinating mediaeval atmosphere. To complement
the historical re-enactment, the Castle restaurant will be offering
a special “Perdonanza” dish, simply prepared with humble, yet
genuine ingredients.
This year the fair will also host the presentation of the new
castle sales point, “Products of the Valbelluna”, during which a
selected number of small local businesses will be presenting their
products and offering visitors the chance to sample many of the
specialities on display. Throughout the summer, children will enjoy
the “Fata Fulva” show (10.30), as well as “The Tales of Count
Murcimiro” for all the family (16.00).

From the 29th of June to the 19th October, the Municipality of Mel and the La Fenice association invite you on a voyage of discovery through

serie di requisiti finalizzati a fornire all’ospite informazioni chiare e dettagliate
su abitazioni e famiglie che lo accolgono, quali la costante reperibilità di un
componente adulto della famiglia, la collaborazione nel trovare parcheggio o un alloggio alternativo
qualora il proprio B&B sia al completo, una colazione con alimenti di qualità garantita, preferibilmente
tipici. Inoltre materiale informativo sulla provincia di Belluno sarà a disposizione dei turisti direttamente
all’interno dell’abitazione. La guida, suddivisa in 8 sezioni corrispondenti alle aree turistiche provinciali

Over 50 B&Bs in the province of Belluno have taken part in the first edition of the project “B&B in Belluno
– Quality Guaranteed”, launched by the Provincial Administration through Dolomiti Turismo. In order
to provide guests with clear, detailed information on the houses and the families who will be welcoming
them, the managers of the B&Bs certify that the accommodation they offer complies with a number
of basic requirements. For example, an adult member of the family must always be at the disposal of
guests, help must be given to find a parking space or alternative accommodation in the event that the
B&B has no vacancies, and a good-quality breakfast must be provided, preferably including typical local
produce. In addition, guests will find information material on the province of Belluno available directly in
the house. The guide, which is divided up into 8 sections, one for each of the tourist areas taking part
in the scheme, will include photos illustrating the characteristic features of each B&B and provide some
personal information about the owners, so that guests can get to know them a little even before they
arrive. The guide is available free of charge from all the tourist information offices in the province, as
well as on line on the Dolomiti Turismo website, www.infodolomiti.it.

Dopo il successo della prima edizione dello scorso anno, a campione su tre
sole zone, si estende all’intera provincia di Belluno la nuova guida 2008 agli
appartamenti ad uso turistico con assicurazione di qualità. Il progetto nasce dalla
collaborazione tra l’Amministrazione provinciale di Belluno e l’Associazione Proprietà
Edilizia - Confedilizia per dare risposte concrete alle precise richieste dei propri
ospiti, garantendo strutture di accoglienza sempre più mirate a specifiche esigenze.
I turisti che scelgono le Dolomiti Bellunesi per la propria vacanza potranno così
soggiornare in appartamenti confortevoli, di atmosfera familiare, con garantiti determinati
servizi e standard qualitativi. La guida è suddivisa in 11 sezioni, corrispondenti
alle aree turistiche della provincia. Ad ogni struttura –sono oltre 150 gli appartamenti che quest’anno
hanno aderito all’iniziativa- è dedicata una pagina con una breve descrizione, due immagini dell’interno e

The new 2008 guide contains three times more
addresses to choose from
Following the success of the first trial edition, restricted to just three areas and published last year, the
new 2008 version of the quality-guaranteed tourist apartments guide covers the whole of the province.
The project is the fruit of the collaboration between the Provincial Administration of Belluno and
Confedilizia (the Italian Confederation of Property Owners), aimed at providing an effective, practical
response to the specific requests of visitors by guaranteeing carefully-selected accommodation to
suit particular needs. Holidaymakers visiting the Belluno Dolomites will therefore be able to choose
from a range of comfortable, cosy, family-style apartments, with a number of services and quality
standards guaranteed. The guide is divided up into 11 sections, one for each of the tourist areas in
the province. For each apartment – there are 150 in this year’s guide – there is a page which includes
a brief description, two photos of the inside and outside of the apartment, and a key to the services
offered. The guide is available free of charge from all tourist information offices in the province, as well
as online on Dolomiti Turismo’s website, www.infodolomiti.it.

be welcoming the cattle back down to the
valley from the summer pastures up in the
mountains, and the Sappamukki festival
will be held in their honour; and then
there will also be the Ex tempore sculpture

SUMMER WITH THE MAZAROL
This summer, the nature and environment
guides of the Mazarol Cooperative will be
offering a new programme of hikes and trips
to learn more about the places, stories and
landscapes of the Dolomites. Visitors will have
the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of
the mischievous Mazarol (the little elf of the
woods), both to admire the nature just outside
our doorsteps and to venture into silent
woodland and through spellbinding
landscapes. From nature and cultural routes to
fascinating night-time walks, a whole range
of options are available in the good company
of the Mazarol. Also highly recommended are
the high-altitude trekking trips: on the 25th,
26th and 27th of July there will be a 3-day
trekking trip through the Dolomiti Bellunesi
National Park, which will cross the Pramper,

A LOOK FORWARD TO THE AUTUMN
Torna la Coppa d ’Oro delle Dolomiti
Grande attesa a Cortina d’Ampezzo per la gara di Regolarità Classica riservata ad
auto storiche costruite entro l’anno 1961, in programma dal 4 al 7 settembre. Il
percorso di quest’anno prevede due tappe: la prima, in partenza venerdì 5 da Cortina,
valica il Passo Falzarego ed i Passi Pordoi, Sella e Gardena, per ritornare a Cortina
attraverso la Val Pusteria; la seconda prevede il passaggio di Passo Tre Croci e, dopo
aver costeggiato il Lago di Misurina, la Strada Alta di Costalta e Costalissoio, giunge a
Sappada per poi concludere la gara a Cortina nel pomeriggio di sabato 6. Un percorso
di quasi 350 km che vedrà protagoniste 120 bellissime vetture i cui equipaggi, provenienti
dall’Italia ma anche da Nord Europa, Giappone, Nord America ed Hong Kong,
godranno dell’impareggiabile scenario delle Dolomiti. Domenica 7 settembre sarà
inoltre riproposto un Concorso di Eleganza riservato alle auto che hanno partecipato
alla Coppa d’Oro; un’iniziativa che unisce eleganza, glamour e cultura in un omaggio al
design italiano, che, proprio nel settore automobilistico, ha sempre suscitato grande
ammirazione nel mondo.

Cortina d’Ampezzo is eagerly awaiting the start of the Classic Regularity Race reserved for vintage cars built in or before 1961, scheduled
for the 4th to the 7th of September. This year’s route will consist of two stages: the first will set out on Friday the 5th from Cortina, cross
the Falzarego, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena Passes and then return to Cortina through the Val Pusteria, while the second will run through the
Tre Croci Pass, round the edge of Lake Misurina, along the High Road of Costalta and Costalissoio, on to Sappada and back again to Cortina
on Saturday the 6th. This almost 350 km long route will be tackled by 120 splendid vehicles, with teams from not only Italy but also
the north of Europe, Japan, North America and Hong Kong, and along the way drivers will have the chance to enjoy the uniquely beautiful
landscape of the Dolomites. On Sunday the 7th this year’s event will come to a close once again with the “Stylishness Contest”, reserved

Aspettando l’autunno: colori e tradizioni bellunesi
Un viaggio alla scoperta della storia, della cultura e della tradizione della Provincia di Belluno. Il prossimo autunno, appuntamento a Belluno
con l’oramai tradizionale Ex Tempore Internazionale di scultura su legno, che vedrà il centro trasformarsi in un vero e proprio laboratorio
di scultura a cielo aperto. Proseguono gli appuntamenti con la tradizione culinaria bellunese sotto il segno delle Dolomiti d’Autunno: la
stagione autunnale si aprirà con la Festa del Ciodét di Alano di Piave, per poi lasciare spazio ad un ricco calendario di eventi che si concluderanno
il 22-23 novembre a Belluno, con l’immancabile Pastin in piazza. Ritornano anche le importanti manifestazioni fieristiche organizzate
da Longarone Fiere: si parte il 26-28 settembre con la fiera del tempo libero Outdoor Dolomiti, mentre ad ottobre sarà la volta di Sapori
Italiani e di Arte in Fiera (11-13 ottobre); a novembre tornano infine Arredamont (25 ottobre-2 novembre), mostra dell’arredare in montagna,
e l’attesissima MIG – Mostra Internazionale del Gelato Artigianale (30 novembre-3 dicembre). Ma l’autunno nel Bellunese offre ancora tante
opportunità a chi desidera conoscere più da vicino l’incomparabile bellezza del suo territorio: a piedi, in bici o a cavallo, eccoci pronti per le
ultime escursioni della stagione, avvolti nella magica atmosfera e nei mille colori del foliage.

A look forward to the autumn:
all the colours and traditions
of the Belluno area
A voyage of discovery through the history, culture and traditions of the province of Belluno.
This coming autumn, the now-traditional Ex Tempore International Wood Sculpture
Competition will turn the centre of Belluno into an open-air workshop. Of course, there is
more to autumn in the province of Belluno than art and culture, and fans of good cooking and
culinary traditions will also find plenty to keep them happy, since the Dolomiti d’Autunno
series of food festivals and events continues on well into the autumn: the season will open with
the Ciodét Mushroom Festival in Alano di Piave and after a whole series of tasty encounters,
the series will come to a close on the 22nd-23rd of November in Belluno, with the chance to
sample the traditional local delicacy of pastin in the square in the town centre – don’t miss it!
And then there are a number of important trade fairs which will be held at Longarone Fiere
Trade Fair Centre: the first is the sport and leisure fair Outdoor Dolomiti, from the 26th-28th
September, followed from the 11th to the 13th of October by the food and art fair Sapori
Italiani and Arte in Fiera, and the return of the mountain furniture fair Arredamont (25th October
-2nd November), after which there will be perhaps the most eagerly-awaited event of them all:
the MIG (International Craftmade Ice-Cream Exhibition), held from the 30th of November to the
3rd of December. The Belluno area also offers innumerable opportunities to explore the
spectacular local landscape on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, and is the ideal period for
the last hillwalking trips and hikes of the year, surrounded by the splendid colours of the leaves
drifting to the ground around you.
