Revocation of Gift Concessions for<br />

Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco<br />

Products, effective 1 October 2008<br />

In accordance with Australian Customs<br />

Notice 2008/43, the gift concessions for<br />

gifts valued under $200 <strong>per</strong> consignment<br />

of alcoholic beverages and tobacco has<br />

been revoked effective 1 October 2008.<br />

Under the gift concession by-law 9740019<br />

of 17 September 1997, gifts valued under<br />

$200 of such items were exempt from<br />

duty and tax when imported into<br />

Australia. Effective 1 October 2008, gift<br />

consignments of such products will be<br />

subject to duties and taxes. The uniform<br />

duty and tax free threshold for all<br />

imported goods of $1000 AU does not<br />

include alcoholic beverages and tobacco<br />

products.<br />
