Program care of the Regione Lombardia. Other regions will start programs in<br />

the territory on the basis of local circumstances.<br />

Notably, the use of the standard ADNI protocol for the development of<br />

SOPs and for the individual diagnostic cases is a key issue. The ADNI MR<br />

acquisition protocol is such that the grey/white matter contrast and field inhomogeneities<br />

are similar for all scanners, regardless of manufacturer and<br />

model. The use of the ADNI protocol, therefore, will allow the users of the<br />

medial temporal lobe volume SOPs to use the ADNI database as the normative<br />

reference. This is of critical relevance as it allows to avoid collecting large<br />

scanner specific reference datasets in each user centre, something that the<br />

large majority of Memory Clinics would find impossible to carry out.<br />

OUTPUT(S) OF THE PROJECT<br />

WP1 – Document: review of current protocols for the MR-based measurement<br />

of medial temporal (hippocampal, amygdalar, and entorhinal) atrophy (M3).<br />

– Document: description of the normative data for hippocampal volumetry<br />

at 1.5 and 3T in cognitively healthy older persons (M9).<br />

– Document: Draft SOPs and QA for the measurement of medial temporal<br />

atrophy in persons with suspected Alzheimer’s disease based on MR scans (M9).<br />

– Document: Final version of SOPs and QA for the measurement of<br />

medial temporal atrophy in persons with suspected Alzheimer’s disease based<br />

on MR scans (M24).<br />

WP2 – Document: review of current protocols for the quantitative measurement<br />

of FDG PET uptake (M3).<br />

– Document: description of the normative data for FDG PET uptake in<br />

cognitively healthy older persons (M9).<br />

– Document: Draft SOPs and QA for the measurement of FDG PET<br />

uptake in persons with suspected Alzheimer’s disease (M9).<br />

– Document: Final version of SOPs and QA for the measurement of FDG<br />

PET uptake in persons with suspected Alzheimer’s disease based on MR scans<br />

(M24).<br />

WP3 – Document: review of current protocols for the quantitative measurement<br />

of power/coherence based on EEG recordings (M3.)<br />

– Report: validity study of MEG/TMS for the detection of incipient AD<br />
