3. Ethical and legal issues
On ethics and safety, the management team will ensure that good practice
is followed in all aspects of the program and that all participants are aware of
ethical and safety rules when performing work within this project. All work
will be carried out according to national and international regulations concerning
genetically modified organisms and laboratory animals. The proposal
does not involve direct or indirect risks related to public health.
Animal use will be limited to the minimum necessary to obtain scientifically
meaningful results.
We feel that the use of limited numbers of animals is justified by the
potential medical and commercial benefits arising from the knowledge that
will be gained. For animal experiments, the Directive EU 86/609/CEE (European
Community Regulations on the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals,
and/or any further implement) will be strictly followed.
