EC.13 – Motivating platform for elderly networking, mental reinforcement and social interaction
piloted with the participation of 350 senior citizens in 7 different pilot sites
(trondheim Kommune, Hygeia, Morgagni Pierantoni Hospital, Municipality
of Forlì, Social Policy Center of the Municipality of Kifissia, Santa Lucia
Foundation and PREVI S.L) from 4 European countries (Greece, Italy, Norway,
Spain).
Overall, SOCIABLE will integrate, deploy and operate an innovative
ICT-enabled on-line service for assessing and accordingly reinforcing the
mental state of the elderly through pleasant gaming activities for cognitive
training, while at the same time boosting their social networking and activating
their day-to-day interpersonal interactions. SOCIABLE is envisaged
as a service with high potential for societal impact that could add significant
value to current service offerings of care services providers. Furthermore, it
is associated with a clear business potential for sustainability and wider use
by care service providers within (but also outside of) the SOCIABLE consortium.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The goal of the SOCIABLE project is to integrate, deploy and operate an
innovative ICT-assisted service for assessing and accordingly reinforcing the
mental state of the elderly through pleasant gaming activities for cognitive
training, while at the same time boosting their social networking and activating
their day-to-day interpersonal interactions. In realizing this goal the project
sets the following measurable, verifiable and more detailed technological,
societal and socio-economic objectives.
Technological Objectives
– Objective 1: To define the cognitive training and social interaction services
that will be offered via the SOCIABLE platform. This hinges on the
detailed definition of games, exercises, “ profiling ” characteristics and
“ matching ” rules that experts will judge as being most appropriate for the
targets users (i.e. the users participating in SOCIABLE pilots). This definition
is a prerequisite to defining and implementing cognitive games, as well as
caretaker mediated “ matching ” services.
– Objective 2: To provide a technical specification of the SOCIABLE platform
in terms of software, hardware and middleware components, as well as
delivery channels. This specification will be down to technical detail and will
enable the integration of the SOCIABLE components. It will define the structuring
principles for integrated and deploying the SOCIABLE infrastructure,
across care centres and home environments.
– Objective 3: To prepare the pilot sites (in Greece, Italy, Spain, Norway)
in terms of technological infrastructure (software, hardware, middleware, networks),
as well as operational processes, user selection and training. This
includes blending the technological infrastructure with appropriate processes
for human mediated social interaction and continuous individualized cognitive
training.
