P10 – Perry/ USOU (Southampton University), United Kingdom – Competence:<br />

Mechanisms of CNS inflammation and neurodegeneration in human<br />

and experimental diseases, innate immunity. Role in the Project: Animal model<br />

of Wallerian degeneration; influence of systemic infection on neurodegeneration;<br />

microglia reactivity; inflammatory mediators in the CNS; proteomics;<br />

bioinformatics.<br />

P11 – Smith/ KCL (King’s College London), United Kingdom – Moved to ION<br />

UCL/P24 at month 25 - Competence: Axonal pathology in demyelinating and<br />

neurodegenerative CNS diseases, NO-mediated neurotoxicity. Role in the Project:<br />

Testing of sodium channel and sodium/calcium exchanger blockers in in<br />

vitro and semi-in vivo spinal cord preparations; electrophysiological and morphometric<br />

studies; focal demyelinated lesions. In vivo confocal spinal cord<br />

imaging methods in EAE.<br />

TNF signaling, apoptosis, recombinant proteins, targeting. Role in the Project:<br />

Human TNF receptor selective agonists and antagonists.<br />

signaling, neuroprotective signaling pathways, transgenic and mutant mouse<br />

approaches. Role in the Project: Development of humanized mouse models for<br />

P14 – Probert/HPI (The Hellenic Pasteur Institute), Greece – Competence:<br />

Cytokine signaling in neuroinflammation, transgenic mouse models of CNS<br />

inflammation. Role in the Project: Validation of TNFR1 signaling compounds<br />

in animal models of acute and chronic neurodegeneration; integration of data<br />

sets from cDNA microarray analyses of different disease models and in silico<br />

simulation of the CNS inflammatory response and disease-related pathways.<br />
