CONCLUSIONS
Our fluorimetric and electrophysiologycal investigation on the possible
regulatory effects by Oxcarbazepine and Carbamazepine on the calcium and
sodium dynamics could provide new prospective for the clinical use of this
drug in common pathologies of the CNS such those caused by stroke and excitotoxicity.
Therefore, we hypothesize that by controlling the influx of calcium
and sodium in the neurons, on top of contributing to the antiepileptic properties,
Oxcarbazepine and Carbamazepine may also yield an additional neuroprotective
potential.
