CONCLUSIONS<br />

Our fluorimetric and electrophysiologycal investigation on the possible<br />

regulatory effects by Oxcarbazepine and Carbamazepine on the calcium and<br />

sodium dynamics could provide new prospective for the clinical use of this<br />

drug in common pathologies of the CNS such those caused by stroke and excitotoxicity.<br />

Therefore, we hypothesize that by controlling the influx of calcium<br />

and sodium in the neurons, on top of contributing to the antiepileptic properties,<br />

Oxcarbazepine and Carbamazepine may also yield an additional neuroprotective<br />

potential.<br />
