Salendo in treno da Venezia-Treviso o da Padova-Castelfranco, lasciata Montebelluna, superate Cornuda e Pederobba, muta la relazione tra cielo
e terra: questa prende forma di montagne e il cielo è quasi geometricamente delimitato, a momenti appare a spicchi. Guardando dal finestrino a
volte è difficile scorgere il cielo.
Alla stazione di Fener, i pendolari lo sanno, lo sguardo è spesso attirato in basso, verso il Piave: c’è una famiglia di conigli, sì, conigli selvatici. Non
sono, come gridò in una mattina della scorsa estate una bimba, “marmotte”. La mamma continuò a dormire, c’è stato solo un sussulto del trolley
sopra cui erano distese le gambe. Il babbo aprì l’occhio, aprì invero metà di ciascun occhio, e saggiamente disse: “So’ conigli, nun vedi l’orecchie”.
Chissà se in seguito la bimba avrà visto le marmotte: l’emozione comunque ci fu. Sua e di noi tre pendolari, in quel vagone del trenino regionale
che lentamente avanzava strusciando i rami di acacia sino a Feltre.
Qui nel feltrino e dopo in Val Belluna, di nuovo, l’orizzonte si amplia, il cielo assume una nuova dimensione perché ora si confronta con la roccia:
non c’è competizione, c’è armonia.
Oltre, la via ferrata, il solo binario, obbliga il passeggero ancora a cercare il cielo stretto tra le gole e impedito dalle gallerie: è una privazione momentanea,
quasi un modo per far apprezzare ancor più lo scenario che si apre entrando in Cadore. Qui le Dolomiti invitano a continuare a salire, ad
avvicinarsi al cielo: fortunato chi può arrivare sulle cime a godere quei panorami, a provare quelle emozioni che già dalla valle si possono intuire.
E auguriamoci che lo sforzo della Provincia di Belluno perché le Dolomiti siano riconosciute dall’Unesco Patrimonio dell’Umanità abbia esito positivo.

As you travel up on the train from Venice-Treviso of from Padua-Castelfranco, once you leave behind Montebelluna and pass Cornuda and
Pederobba, the relationship between land and sky undergoes a change: the land becomes mountainous, and the sky seems almost reduced to
sharply contrasting triangles that appear between the peaks; as you look out of the window it’s sometimes difficult to see it.
The regular commuters on the train are aware of this, and at the station in Fener, their eyes are often drawn downwards, towards the Piave, where
there’s a family of rabbits, wild ones. They’re not marmots, as I heard a little girl cry one morning last summer, as her mother went on sleeping,
disturbed only by a jolt of the trolley case she was resting her legs on. The father opened an eye – or rather half-opened both eyes – and wisely
told her “They’re rabbits – look at their ears”. I don’t know if the little girl ever did manage to spot a marmot, but the sight was exciting just the
same, both for her and for us three commuters on the regional train that trundled on down the line towards Feltre.
Here in the Val Feltrina and afterwards in the Val Belluna, the horizon opens up once more, and the sky takes on a new dimension, as it comes up
against the rock faces; and here the effect is one of harmony, rather than competition.
Further ahead, the via ferrata, the single rail line, compels passengers once again to seek out the narrow strip of sky just visible between the
gorges and blocked out by the galleries. It does not disappear for long, perhaps just long enough to make you fully appreciate the landscape
that opens out as you enter the Cadore. Here, the Dolomites invite you to travel on up, towards the sky, and there are few fortunes greater than
reaching the peaks and enjoying the superb views they offer, an emotion that is already hinted at from the valley.
Let us hope that the efforts made by the Province of Belluno for the Dolomites to be granted Unesco World Heritage status finally bear fruit.

The Dolomites: living life to the full, day and night
Si apre una nuova stagione per l’arco alpino e, soprattutto, per le
nostre Dolomiti. Le montagne più belle del mondo sono a un passo
dall’inserimento nella lista Unesco quale patrimonio dell’Umanità. Il
mio invito per quest’estate è di viverle e goderle intensamente, di
giorno come di notte. Nel giornale che state sfogliando troverete
numerose indicazioni per approfittare al meglio della vostra vacanza
in provincia di Belluno: passeggiate nei rifugi alpini, rievocazioni
storiche, percorsi in bicicletta immersi nel verde intenso di prati e
boschi. E ancora suggerimenti per ammirare il cielo stellato, magari
accompagnati da chi ha scoperto di recente una Supernova, da chi
fotografa le montagne di notte o dagli appassionati astrofili, capaci
di lunghe veglie per inseguire una stella. Perché con il calar delle
tenebre le Dolomiti diventano magiche.

A new season is at the gates in the Alpine area, and in
particular for our beloved Dolomites. The most beautiful
mountains in the world are just a step away from becoming
a Unesco World Heritage site, and my invitation to you is
to enjoy them to the full this summer, all day and all night.
In this magazine you will find an endless variety of ideas to
help you make the most of your holiday in the province of
Belluno: walks from one alpine refuge to another, historical
re-enactments, cycling trips through splendid green fields and
woodlands. And then there are plenty of indications on how and
where to observe the night sky, perhaps in the company of an
expert who has just discovered a Supernova, a photographer
who immortalises the mountains by night or by impassioned
astrophiles capable of staying awake all night just to follow
a star. Because it as dusk descends over them that the
Dolomites become truly magical.

Tutti gli strumenti per osservare il cielo
Telescopi, binocoli, macchine fotografiche e soprattutto… due occhi! “Lo strumento migliore per osservare il cielo di notte è comunque l’occhio
nudo”, spiega Gabriele Vanin dell’associazione Rheticus, “chi non è abituato si stupisce della visione di un cielo notturno sgombro e costellato
da milioni di stelle”. Prima di acquistare un telescopio meglio comunque fare un po’ di pratica con dei binocoli. Quelli adatti per l’osservazione
astronomica montano lenti 25x100 contro i 20x80 consueti, che consentono di catturare più luce. La visione binoculare infatti è più efficace per
l’osservazione e spesso anche ai telescopi vengono applicati strumenti di questo tipo. La Luna è gialla, un astro luminoso con riflessi rossastri,
ma tendiamo a percepirla in bianco e nero, come la maggior parte degli astri. Si osserva molto bene nel suo primo quarto, con la luce radente
che ne rivela tutti i particolari. Foto digitali con otturatore aperto, tempi lunghi (10-30 secondi con Iso 800-1600) o in modalità Bulb. Anche le
stelle sono fotogeniche e se ne colgono molte di più con l’obiettivo che a occhio nudo.
All the instruments necessary for star-gazing
Telescopes, binoculars, cameras and above all…. a good pair of eyes! “The most effective instrument with which to observe the sky at night remains
the naked eye”, explains Gabriele Vanin of the Rheticus Association. “The unaccustomed are always astonished at the sight of the clear night sky
studded with millions of stars”. Before investing in a telescope, it is advisable to get a little practice with a pair of binoculars. Those suitable for
budding astronomers are equipped with a 25x100 lens, instead of the usual 20x80 lens, so they can capture more light. Binocular vision is in fact
more effective for observing the sky, and often instruments of this type are also fitted to telescopes. The moon is actually yellow, a luminous star with
reddish reflections, but we tend to perceive it in black and white, like most stars. It can be seen especially well during the first quarter, with the light
low on the horizon revealing its surface in detail. Digital photos should be taken with the shutter open and a log exposure (10-30 seconds with Iso
800-1600) or in Bulb mode. The stars are photogenic too, and far more of them can be picked up with a lens than with the naked eye.

Mercoledì 12 agosto alle 21 all’agriturismo
“Casera dei Boschi” a 4 chilometri da
Croce d’Aune l’associazione Rheticus
propone una serata dedicata all’osservazione
delle tradizionali stelle cadenti di agosto:
le Perseidi. Nella serata saranno resi
disponibili gli strumenti dell’associazione
per la visione di vari oggetti celesti. È uno
dei numerosi appuntamenti organizzati
dall’associazione di astrofili feltrini: incontri
esplorativi e didattici che si susseguiranno
per tutta l’estate all’aperto e nel nuovo
centro di osservazione astronomica feltrino.
Il 2009 infatti è l’Anno internazionale
dell’Astronomia e l’associazione di astrofili
Rheticus si sta preparando a questo
significativo appuntamento per il quale sono
in programma numerose iniziative relative allo
studio e all’osservazione dei fenomeni celesti.

“Casera dei Boschi” agritourist farm 4
kilometres from Croce d’Aune, the Rheticus
Association has scheduled an evening
devoted to the observation of the traditional
falling stars of August: the Perseids. For the
occasion, the association will be making
available the instruments it uses for viewing
a range of heavenly bodies. This is just
one of the numerous events organised by
the star-gazers’ association from Feltre,
which include exploratory and educational
encounters set to take place through the
summer both outdoors and in the new
astronomical observation centre in Feltre.
2009 is International Astronomy Year, and
the Rheticus Association is getting ready for
this important event, with plans under way for
numerous initiatives relating to the study and
observation of celestial phenomena.

I paesaggi sono da sempre fra i miei
soggetti preferiti e ho cercato di ritrarre
le Dolomiti in tutti i loro umori. Ci sono
momenti in cui le nostre montagne
indossano abiti dai colori diversi, veli che
lasciano intravedere particolari ancora più
affascinanti e intimi: la sera, ad esempio,
quando la calda luce del tramonto colora
la Dolomia per mettere in scena la mitica
“Enrosadira” (termine ladino che significa
“diventare di color rosa”). Oppure dopo
il tramonto, nel momento in cui si crea
quella particolare condizione che in gergo
fotografico è chiamata “l’ora blu”, cioè
l’intervallo corrispondente al crepuscolo
quando la luce del cielo, ancora lievemente
illuminato, colora tutto di blu prima di
lasciare posto al buio. E infine la notte,
quando una sottile falce lunare illumina
delicatamente il paesaggio strappandolo
al buio totale. Ed è proprio in questi
orari inconsueti che la montagna cambia
radicalmente aspetto, trasmettendo
a chi riesce a trovare la voglia e la
determinazione di percorrere sentieri
bui e solitari, emozioni e sensazioni che
difficilmente lasciano indifferenti. Le
nuove tecnologie digitali applicate alla
fotografia mettono a disposizione occhi
elettronici così sensibili da poter fotografare
egregiamente questi scenari notturni. Basta
una discreta macchina fotografica digitale,
possibilmente una reflex con una sensibilità
che arrivi fino a 3200 ISO o superiore, un
obiettivo grandangolare luminoso con un
rapporto di almeno f/2.8 o inferiore, e un
solido treppiede, per realizzare immagini
paesaggistiche di forte impatto emozionale.

Landscapes have always figured among
my favourite subjects, and I have tried
to portray the Dolomites in all their
multifaceted glory. There are moments
during which our mountains take on
different colours and shades that reveal
even more alluring, intimate aspects: in
the evening, for instance, when the warm
light of dusk tinges the Dolomite rock, and
the legendary “Enrosadira” takes centre
stage. The name comes from a term in
the Ladin language that means “turning
pink”. Or after the sun goes down, in that
particular period we photographers call
“blue gold”, i.e. that interval between dusk
and dark, when the night sky, still faintly
illuminated by the dying sun, colours
the whole landscape blue, just before
darkness descends. And then it is night,
when a slim, curved blade of moonlight
glimmers in the sky, delicately rescuing
the landscape from total blackness. And it
is in these elusive hours that the mountain
changes most radically; those with the
will and the determination to travel along
dark, solitary paths will be rewarded with
a wealth of emotions and sensations
before which it is impossible to remain
indifferent. New digital photography
technology provides us with electronic
“eyes” that are perfectly able to portray
these night-time landscapes. All you need
is a decent digital camera, if possible a
reflex model of up to 3200 ISO or higher,
a wide-angle lens of at least f/2.8 or
lower, and a stable tripod, to take truly
thrilling landscape pictures.

In occasione dell’Anno Internazionale dell’Astronomia,
l’Associazione Astronomica Cortina, in
collaborazione con il Museo dell’Occhiale di
Pieve di Cadore, organizza “Dalla Terra al Cielo”,
un’importante manifestazione che raggruppa
una serie di iniziative didattiche e divulgative che
si svolgono a partire dal 10 luglio 2009 fino al 5
gennaio 2010. Con cadenza quasi giornaliera,
turisti e residenti di Cortina e del Cadore possono
partecipare a serate di osservazione al Col
Drusciè, cene a tema “stellare” presso vari rifugi
dolomitici, conferenze tenute da importanti
nomi della scienza internazionale e molto altro
ancora. I “piatti forti” della manifestazione sono
le due mostre allestite presso il Museo dell’Occhiale
a Pieve di Cadore, che espone strumenti
ottici e cannocchiali antichi, e la mostra “Stars
& Mountains”, presso il Comune Vecchio di Cortina,
dove sono esposte eccezionali immagini
del cielo stellato con lo sfondo incantato delle
Dolomiti. Tutti gli appuntamenti della manifestazione
“Dalla Terra al Cielo” e gli orari di apertura

On the occasion of International Astronomy
Year, the Cortina Astronomy Association, in
collaboration with the Eyewear Museum in Pieve
di Cadore, will be organising “Dalla Terra al
Cielo” (From the Earth to the Sky), an important
event that will comprise a series of educational
and information activities and will take place
from 10th July 2009 until 5th January 2010.
Almost every day, tourists and locals in Cortina
and the Cadore area will be able to take part
in star-gazing evenings on Col Drusciè, dinners
on a “starry” theme at a range of Dolomite
refuges, conferences given by leading names
on the international science scene and much
more besides. The high points of the event will
be the two exhibitions housed in the Eyewear
Museum in Pieve di Cadore, featuring ancient
optical instruments and binoculars, and the
“Stars & Mountains” exhibition held in the
Old Town Hall building in Cortina, featuring
exceptional pictures of the starry sky forming a
spectacular backdrop to the magical Dolomites.

Il Museo dell’Occhiale
di Pieve di Cadore
festeggia l’Anno Internazionale dell’Astronomia
ed il 400° anniversario del potenziamento del
cannocchiale da parte di Galileo Galilei con una
grande mostra dedicata alla storia del cannocchiale
astronomico e terrestre. Un’esposizione di
grande valenza didattica e scientifica, che offrirà
ai visitatori la possibilità di ammirare reperti unici,
provenienti dalla collezione già di proprietà del
Museo, ma anche da collezioni private italiane
e straniere (la collezione Louwman, una delle
più complete raccolte esistenti al mondo), da
collezioni pubbliche francesi, dal Museo di storia
della Fisica dell’Università di Padova e dalla
Biblioteca Universitaria di Padova, che presterà
il Sidereus Nuncius di Galileo, opera rara e di
grande valore. Un viaggio a ritroso nel tempo,
che illustrerà ai visitatori come fosse la “visione
del mondo” nell’antichità e nel Medioevo, fino alla
grande rivoluzione che le scoperte astronomiche
di Galileo Galilei portarono nella filosofia e nella
scienza astronomica dell’epoca.
La mostra sarà aperta al pubblico dall’11 luglio
al 31 ottobre 2009. Nello stesso periodo ci
sarà la possibilità di visitare, sempre a Pieve di
Cadore, la mostra di fotografie in bianco e nero
dedicata alla volta celeste, allestita nel Palazzo
della Magnifica Comunità di Cadore. Numerosi
gli eventi collaterali, che proseguiranno fino al 5
gennaio 2010, ma che vedranno un calendario

che vedranno giungere a Pieve di Cadore

The Eyewear Museum in Pieve di Cadore will
be celebrating International Astronomy Year
and the 400th anniversary of the invention of
the Galileo telescope with a major exhibition
dedicated to the history of the astronomical
and terrestrial telescope. The exhibition, of
great educational and scientific value, will offer
visitors the opportunity to admire unique exhibits,
not only from the collection belonging to the
Museum itself, but also from other private Italian
and foreign collections (such as the Louwman
collection, one of the most exhaustive in the
world), from public collections from France, from
the Museum of the History of Physics of the
University of Padua and the University Library
of Padua, on loan from which will be Galileo’s
Sidereus Nuncius, an especially rare and valuable
work. A journey back in time, during which visitors
will be able to understand the “vision of the world”
that prevailed during Antiquity and the Middle
Ages, until the great revolution the astronomic
discoveries of Galileo Galilei brought to the
astronomic science and philosophy of his time.
The exhibition will be open to the public from
11th July until 31st October 2009. During the
same period, visitors to Pieve di Cadore will
also have the chance to see an exhibition of
black and white photographs on the theme of
the night sky, held in the Palazzo della Magnifica
Comunità di Cadore. A large range of collateral
events are also scheduled, which will continue
until 5th January 2010, with many of these
concentrated in the summer period: on 17th
July and 1st, 11th, 13th and 21st August,
guided observations of the sky will be organised
on the terrace of the Eyewear Museum, while
from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th August all
eyes will be in the stars at the planetarium set
up for the occasion in Piazza Tiziano in Pieve di
Cadore. The special film festival dedicated to the
stars will open on 20th July, with a showing of
the film on the moon landing in the convention
hall of the Museum. Also not to be missed is
the cycle of conferences given by astronomers,
astrophysicists and scientists of worldwide
renown – including Margherita Hack, who will be
in Pieve di Cadore on 1st August.

San Tomaso Agordino,
lezioni astronomiche
L’Associazione Astrofili Agordini “Cieli Dolomitici” ha proposto in questi
anni numerose occasioni per osservare il cielo, quali lo storico transito di
Venere sul Sole e alcune eclissi parziali di Sole e di luna. L’Associazione,
su incarico del Comune di San Tomaso Agordino, gestisce il Centro
Astronomico Provinciale “Emigranti”, che ospita un planetario ed un osservatorio
con tetto scorrevole provvisto di un telescopio da 450 mm di
diametro. Il planetario è un’installazione che permette di rappresentare su
una volta emisferica, grazie a proiezioni luminose, gli elementi principali
della sfera celeste, il moto degli astri, l’aspetto del cielo stellato, con una
cupola di 4 m sulla quale è possibile riprodurre 2400 stelle. Un’ottima
introduzione all’Astronomia. Vengono inoltre visualizzati effetti come l’alba,
il tramonto, la Via Lattea, l’esplosione di una supernova, il meccanismo
di formazione delle eclissi. Sotto la cupola possono trovare posto 25
persone. Le serate al Planetario di San Tomaso Agordino si tengono
ogni venerdì, con inizio alle ore 20,30, con un minimo di 8 partecipanti.

San Tomaso Agordino
Since its foundation, the Agordino Astrophile Association “Cieli Dolomitici”
has offered numerous opportunities to observe the night sky, such as
the historic transit of Venus across the Sun and a number of partial
solar and lunar eclipses. The Association has been entrusted by the
Municipal Council of San Tomaso Agordino with the running of the
“Emigranti” Provincial Astronomy Centre, which contains a planetarium
and an observatory with a retractable roof, equipped with a telescope
with a diameter of 450 mm. The planetarium is an installation with a
semi-spherical vault on which, with the aid of light projection, it is possible
to represent the main elements of the celestial sphere, the movement
of the stars and the appearance of the starry sky, with a 4 m dome
on which over 2400 stars can be reproduced. The centre provides a
superb introduction to astronomy, and visitors can also see effects
such as dawn, dusk, the Milky Way, the explosion of a supernova and
the mechanism by which eclipses are formed. The Planetarium of San
Tomaso Agordino organises evening sessions every Friday, starting at
8.30 p.m., for a minimum of six people. Bookings can be made by calling

Nelle belle serate d’estate, quando nel cielo la luna piena illumina
a giorno la montagna, il Rifugio Laresei (m. 2260) offre un
incantevole panorama sulle vette dolomitiche che lo circondano.
Dalla sua terrazza si possono ammirare la Marmolada, il Civetta,
il Pelmo, l’Antelao, le Cime del Focobon, il Mulaz e anche le Pale
di San Martino. Da quest’osservatorio privilegiato, in qualsiasi
direzione si volga lo sguardo, lo spettacolo è assicurato.
In estate il Rifugio è raggiungibile a piedi o in mountain bike dal
passo Valles, dal San Pellegrino e da Falcade tramite sentieri ben
segnalati; e la sera, quando l’atmosfera si fa magica, attraverso
un comodo servizio navetta con fuoristrada. In questo ambiente
caratteristico e curato nei minimi particolari si cena a base di piatti
tipici della tradizione di montagna ed un’ampia scelta di specialità
locali. Per terminare la serata in allegria, mentre si gode del
magnifi co panorama notturno, consigliamo di sorseggiare una delle
squisite grappe digestive fatte in casa.

“Gigante scuro, solitario e possente dominatore, ci sovrasta e
impaurisce chi non lo conosce nella notte buia. Camminiamo:
la luna lo bacia ed il gigante mostra tutta la sua dolce, pallida
bellezza. Sorride: “andate tranquilli, io vi proteggo”. Alziamo lo
sguardo e lo splendore di un limpido cielo ammantato di stelle ci
sorprende felici ad ammirare il fi rmamento, nello spazio infi nito più
bello che mai”.
Vogliamo provare la magia di queste emozioni? In una limpida
serata stellata raggiungiamo il Rifugio Città di Fiume (m. 1918).
Dal terzo tornante della strada statale che da Selva di Cadore porta
in direzione del Passo Staulanza ci inoltriamo nel sentiero, lungo un
paio di chilometri, al cospetto del maestoso e isolato Monte Pelmo.
La passeggiata è alla portata di tutti, grandi e piccini, e lo
spettacolo indimenticabile.

VIA FERRATA SOTTO IL CIELO
Nel comune di Rocca Pietore, presso la frazione di Laste possiamo ammirare l’abitato di
Ronch. Questa piccola realtà è immersa in un bosco di larici dove sorgono tre monoliti da una
successione geologica composta da formazioni sedimentarie: un basamento costituito da rocce
della formazioni di Werfen, alla quale sono sovrapposte la formazione di Contrin e la formazione
del Calcare della Marmolada, quest’ultima unità dà origine ai monoliti di Laste, tra i quali si
distingue per dimensioni il Sass de Ròcia. È il “sasso” che ci permette un primo approccio, con
casco, imbracatura, corde e moschettoni, per poter iniziare a praticare le nostre vie ferrate.
Un piccolo sentiero porta proprio ad una fessura del monolito da dove parte il percorso. Una
serie di scalette ed un ponticello ci permettono di giungere, in circa 30/40 minuti, alla cima del
sasso e quindi al Bivacco Pian de le Stelle. Lo scenario che ci si presenta è davvero incantevole,
tra Civetta, Pelmo e Sasso Bianco: possiamo proprio toccare con un dito le stelle.

Rocca Val di Pietore Zoldo
VIA FERRATA BENEATH THE SKY
At Laste, in the municipality of Rocca Pietore, visitors can fi nd the charming little hamlet
of Ronch, situated inside a larch wood in which you can see three monoliths made up
of sedimentary formations from succeeding geological periods. The base is made of
Werfen formations, on top of which is the Contrin formation and the Marmolada Limestone
formation, which created the Laste monoliths. The largest of these is the Sass de Ròcia, a
boulder that can be tackled by newcomers to our vie ferrate equipped routes, armed with
helmet, harness, ropes and snap-hooks. A small path leads right to a crack in the monolith,
from where the route begins. A series of little steps and a small bridge will take you, in
about 30/40 minutes, to the top of the rock and to the Pian de le Stelle bivouac. The view
from here is truly enchanting, taking in the Civetta, the Pelmo and Sasso Bianco: you almost
feel you can reach out and touch the stars.

sOTTO LE sTELLE
La proposta è di pedalare in notturna lungo
la ciclabile delle Dolomiti ed in particolare
nel tratto tra i Comuni di Vodo, Borca e
San Vito. Questa esperienza di grande
carico emotivo può iniziare partendo dalla
frazione di Peaio in direzione nord. L’ex
tracciato della ferrovia, dove transitava
il mitico trenino delle Dolomiti, per gran
parte è ben illuminato dai lampioni
permettendo di percorrerlo anche in
notturna. Raggiunto il confi ne tra Vodo
e Borca, per un breve tratto, si piomba
in una zona oscura. Questo precario
momento è magicamente superato dalle
provvidenziali lucette, applicate a caschetti
dei ciclisti, che perforano con dei coni di
luce bianca, quasi leggere e svolazzanti
lucciole, il percorso. Raggiunto l’abitato
di Borca si ritrova l’illuminazione pubblica
e si prosegue comodamente, senza
eccessive alterazioni di quota, verso la
fi ne del paese. Qui la valle, in direzione
di San Vito, si allarga e le “lucciole”
continuano a pedalare accompagnate
dal leggero fruscio della catena della
bici. In lontananza, le luci delle case
di San Vito ed il magico ricamo delle
costellazioni che ci sovrastano invitano ad
aumentare la pedalata. Queste magiche
notti dolomitiche che solo qui è possibile
ammirare, con l’incantevole spettacolo
della luce pallida della luna, unita alla
bellezza delle imponenti sagome scure
delle montagne.

THE sTARs
Why not try a night-time cycling trip along
the Dolomiti cycling path, in particular the
stretch that runs through the municipalities
of Vodo, Borca and San Vito? You can begin
this thrilling experience by starting out from
the little village of Peaio, to the north. The
route of the former railway line, along which
the legendary little train of the Dolomites used
to run, is well lit for the most part by street
lamps that make it easy to cycle along even at
night. At the border between Vodo and Borca
there is a brief stretch in darkness, but this
delicate moment can be beautifully handled
with the help of the convenient headlights you
can apply to your helmet, which send forth
beams of white light that recall to mind the
graceful flight of fireflies. Once you reach the
village of Borca the public lighting system
returns and the route continues on, easily and
without significant climbs and dips, through to
the other side of the village. Here towards San
Vito the valley broadens out, and the “fireflies”
pedal on forward, accompanied only by the
gentle whirr of the chains on the bicycles.
In the distance, the lights of the houses of
San Vito and the magical, lacy pattern of the
constellations above you spur you on to pedal
faster. The spectacle of these enchanted
Dolomite nights can be admired nowhere else,
as the pale light of the moon illuminates the
striking dark silhouettes of the mountains.

La Guida Alpina Riccardo Del Fabbro organizza ascensioni notturne per ammirare l’alba dalla
vetta più alta di Sappada, il Monte Peralba.
Il punto di ritrovo è Cima Sappada alle ore 15. Con pulmino o mezzi propri si percorre la Val
Sesis fi no alle Sorgenti del Piave. Dal parcheggio, con semplice escursione di tre quarti d’ora
circa, si raggiunge il Rifugio Calvi, luogo della cena e del pernottamento.
Alle 3 del mattino, alla luce delle pile frontali, si risale la Via Normale, intitolata a Papa Giovanni
Paolo II che nel 1988 ne scalò la vetta. L’ascensione ha una durata di circa 2 ore, diffi coltà
media, tranne un tratto diffi cile a ridosso della vetta, raggiunta la quale si potrà ammirare l’alba e
il suggestivo panorama. Al rientro in Rifugio un’abbondante colazione, poi il ritorno al parcheggio.

The Alpine Guide Riccardo Del Fabbro organises night-time trips up to the peak of Monte Peralba, the
highest in Sappada, so that climbers can watch the spectacle of the sunrise from the heights.
Participants meet at 3 p.m. at Cima Sappada, and travel with their own car or by minibus through the Val
Sesis to Sorgenti del Piave, where the river begins. From the parking area, a simple hike lasting about
three quarters of an hour leads up to the Calvi Refuge, where dinner and accommodation are provided.
At 3 a.m. it is time to don your headlamps and set off again up the Via Normale route, renamed in
honour of Pope John Paul II, who climbed up to the peak in 1988. The climb takes about two hours, and
is of average difficulty, save for a more difficult stretch just before the peak. Once you reach the top you
can admire the sunrise and the magnificent view, before heading back down to the Refuge for a large,
well-deserved breakfast, and from there back to the parking area.

THE ANTELAO BY THE MOONLIGHT

Il Monte Antelao, detto anche il Re delle
Dolomiti, è la cima più alta del Cadore,
seconda cima delle Dolomiti, poderoso
insieme piramidale che con la presenza
del suo vasto ghiacciaio domina il Cadore.
È un piccolo paradiso di prati fi oriti e
natura incontaminata, per chi è alla ricerca
di pace, tranquillità e, presso il Rifugio,
cucina tipica montana. Proprio per la sua
eccezionale altezza, questa montagna
diventa meta degli appassionati e studiosi
del panorama stellare, che giungono nelle
lunghe notti estive quando le condizioni
meteorologiche sono favorevoli ed il cielo
è sereno. Emozionante l’appuntamento
della notte di San Lorenzo, lascia con il
fi ato sospeso, lo sguardo ammaliato dalle
stelle cadenti, in un romantico scenario
d’alta quota. L’appuntamento Antelao
sotto le stelle, serata con osservazione
dei pianeti con strumenti specifi ci a cura
dell’Associazione Astronomica di Cortina
D’Ampezzo, quest’anno è fi ssato per
l’8 agosto alle ore 22.00.

Monte Antelao, also known as the King of the
Dolomites, is the highest peak in the Cadore,
and the second highest in the whole of the
Dolomites. This imposing pyramid-shaped
mountain, with its huge glacier, dominates
the whole area, and is truly a little corner of
paradise, with an abundance of flowers and
unspoilt nature: ideal for those in search of a
little peace and quiet and traditional mountain
fare, which can be enjoyed at the Antelao
Refuge. Because of the height of the peak,
the Antelao is popular with star-gazers and
astronomers, who frequent the mountain in
the long summer nights when the weather
conditions are favourable and the sky is
cloudless. Particularly exciting is the night of
San Lorenzo, on which the glittering spectacle
of the falling stars in such a romantic, highmountain
setting really does take your breath
away. This year’s Antelao sotto le stelle
evening, organised by the Astronomical
Association of Cortina d’Ampezzo, is set for
8th August at 10 p.m.; participants will have
the opportunity to observe the planets with the
appropriate instruments.

Milioni di stelle
Anche in Comelico sono molti i luoghi di
osservazione privilegiata del cielo, ve ne
proponiamo due: il primo a Costalissoio
ed il secondo a Danta. Costalissoio è la
Costa del Sole del Comelico, qui una strada
panoramica conduce attraverso Costalta
sino in località Piazzolette dove si trova
la targa che riporta le parole pronunciate
nel 1993 a S. Stefano di Cadore da Papa
Wojtila sul rispetto della natura. In una sera
stellata, o di luna piena, la panoramica è
celestiale, paradisiaca. Stelle, milioni di
stelle. Stupendo! Danta è il paese più alto
del Comelico, sovrastato da un altopiano
denominato “Rotonda sul Comelico”
dalla quale si ammira l’intera valle sino al
Cadore. Sulla rotonda vi sono panchine,
su una di queste si è seduto Benedetto
XVI, nel 2007, ad ammirare il panorama.
È questo un punto d’osservazione ideale
verso il cielo stellato.

ideas we suggest are Costalissoio and Danta.

From Costalissoio, the Costa del Sol of
the Comelico area, a panoramic road leads
through Costalta to Piazzolette, where you
can see the plaque bearing the words spoken
by Pope John Paul II in Santo Stefano di
Cadore in 1993 on respect for nature. On a
starlit evening, or when there is a full moon,
the night view is truly heavenly. Stars galore,
millions of them – a wonderful spectacle!
Danta is the highest village in the Comelico,
overlooked by a plateau called “Rotonda sul
Comelico”, from which you can admire the
whole valley, right out towards the Cadore.
On the plateau are a number of benches, on
one of which sat Pope Benedict XVI in 2007
to enjoy the view. This is an ideal point from
which to observe the night sky.

in montagna all’osservazione del cielo.
Il primo ci porta alla prima Pala di San
Lucano: partenza a Col di Prà, 4 ore
di cammino per raggiungere la cima
dove sorge il Bivacco Margherita Bedin.
Panorama spettacolare a 360 gradi, una
vera e propria terrazza sulle Dolomiti,
passare una notte qui è un’esperienza
affascinante, i colori del tramonto verso
l’Agner e le Pale di San Martino e l’alba
rosea che arriva da est, ripagano della
stanchezza. Il secondo percorso è più
agevole, una passeggiata da Frassenè
Agordino al Rifugio Scarpa con guida.
L’appuntamento è per giovedì 6 agosto: si
parte alle ore 17 e si rientra dopo cena.
Il ritmo dell’escursione sarà modulato da
brevi soste durante le quali osservare
il cielo e il paesaggio, con momenti di
approfondimento storico, scientifico e
naturalistico. Ancora presso il Rifugio
Scarpa nell’ultimo fine settimana di
settembre è in programma la 5 a edizione
della manifestazione “Cielo stellato e
geologia delle Dolomiti“, con possibilità di
osservare la volta celeste col telescopio
in assenza di inquinamento luminoso
(in collaborazione con l’Unione Astrofili
Italiani). E per chi non vuole fare alcuna
fatica la Pro Loco di Gosaldo organizza
per sabato 25 luglio una serata con
osservazione del cielo; il 10 agosto poi
c’è la notte di San Lorenzo: stelle cadenti
per tutti!
Two ideas for linking hiking in the
mountains to a little star-gazing. The first
of these takes us to the first of the Pale di
San Lucano: starting out from Col di Prà,
four hours’ walk will take you to the peak
where you will find the Margherita Bedin
Bivouac. From here there is a spectacular,
360° view over the whole of the Dolomites,
and spending the night here is a truly
magical experience; watching the sun set
down behind the Agner and Pale di San
Martino and the pinkish shades of dawn
rising up from the east will be more than
ample reward for your efforts.
The second route is less challenging:
a guided walk from Frassenè
Agordino to the Scarpa
Refuge. The trip is scheduled
for Thursday 6th August, with
departure at 5 p.m. and return
after dinner. The hike will be
punctuated by a series of brief
stops to observe the sky and
admire the landscape, and
the guide will provide you with
some historical and scientific
information on the area and
the natural surroundings. In the
last weekend in September, the
Scarpa Refuge will also be
playing host to the 5th edition
of “Cielo stellato e geologia
delle Dolomiti“ (The Starry Sky
and Geology of the Dolomites),
during which visitors will have
the chance to observe the night
sky with a telescope, in the absence of light
pollution (in collaboration with the Italian
Union of Amateur Astronomers). And for
those who prefer to take life easy, on 25th
July the Pro Loco tourist information office
in Gosaldo will be organising a star-gazing
evening; and then on 10th August there’s
the feast of San Lorenzo, with falling stars
for all to admire!

Sarà il comune di Agordo ad ospitare la XII
edizione del “Pelmo d’Oro”, sabato 25 luglio
2009, nella sala “Don Ferdinando Tamis” della
Comunità Montana Agordina.
Il capoluogo di vallata, dove nel 1868 è nata
la prima sezione CAI del nord-est (la quarta in
Italia) si prepara ad accogliere i premiati con
un corollario di manifestazioni che culmineranno
con la giornata del Pelmo: i premiati Pelmo
d’Oro 2009 (Mauro Corona, Richard Goedeke
e Gianni Gianeselli) presentati dalla giornalista
Samantha Cornaviera, saranno introdotti da
brevi filmati curati da Italo Zandonella Callegher
in collaborazione con Telebelluno. Fra le novità
di questa edizione del Pelmo d’Oro, il premio
alla sezione agordina Armando “Tama” Da
Roit unitamente al Gruppo Rocciatori Gir e alla
stazione del Corpo Nazionale di Soccorso
Alpino e Speleologico, il riconoscimento al
rifugio Capanna degli Alpini (Calalzo di Cadore)
e ai malgari con più di 30 anni di alpeggio. Gli
appassionati di filatelia potranno trovare sabato
25 luglio 2009 il consueto speciale annullo
filatelico dedicato al premio. La montagna
sarà protagonista anche di proiezioni di filmati,
dimostrazioni di arrampicata, mostre fotografiche,
presentazione di libri, che valorizzeranno
l’estate agordina.
Il premio, voluto dalla Provincia di Belluno e
che si avvale della collaborazione del Club
Alpino Italiano, riconosce particolari meriti
nell’ambito dell’alpinismo e della solidarietà
alpina, della tutela e valorizzazione dell’ambiente
e delle risorse montane, della conoscenza
e promozione della cultura, della storia e delle
tradizioni delle genti di montagna nelle Dolomiti
Bellunesi.

north east of the country – the fourth in the
whole of Italy - was set up, and today Agordo
is getting ready to extend a warm welcome
to the winners of the 2009 awards, with a
range of events organised that will culminate
in the award ceremony itself. The winners
of the Pelmo d’Oro 2009 (Mauro Corona,
Richard Goedeke and Gianni Gianeselli), will
be presented by the journalist Samantha
Cornaviera, following the introductory videos
put together by Italo Zandonella Callegher,
in collaboration with the Trent Film Festival
and Telebelluno. Among this year’s highlights
will be the award given to the Agordo section
Armando “Tama” Da Roit, together with the
Gir Rock-climbing Group and the station of the
National Alpine and Speleological Corps, the
recognition given to the Capanna degli Alpini
Refuge in Calalzo di Cadore and the mountain
dairy farmers with over 30 years’ service
on the summer mountain pastures. On 25th
July, philately enthusiasts will find the special
stamp cancellation that marks the Pelmo
award ceremony every year. The mountain
will also be the subject of film shows, climbing
demonstrations, photographic exhibitions and
book presentations, all of which will liven up
the summer season in Agordo.
The awards, created by the Province of Belluno
with the collaboration of the Italian Alpine Club,
are given to those who have demonstrated
particular merits in the field of mountaineering
and alpine solidarity, safeguarding and
enhancement of the mountain environment
and resources, knowledge of the mountains
and the promotion of the culture, history and
traditions of the mountain folk of the Belluno
Dolomites.

Lozzo di Cadore è da sempre un paese
ricco di attività artigianali, parte delle
quali si insediarono lungo le sponde
del Rio Rin, dove l’acqua era sfruttata
per macinare il grano, tessere la lana,
lavorare il ferro ed il legname. Tutt’ora
lungo il fiume restano i segni di questi
opifici e con la recente valorizzazione
e ricostruzione della roggia di legno e
della ruota di uno dei due mulini, si possono
vedere attraverso un piacevole
percorso tre antichi mulini,

è segnalata e accessibile a tutti, dalla

The mill
route
Lozzo di Cadore has always been
renowned for its craft industry, part
of which was situated along the banks
of the Rin Brook, the waters of which
were used for the various activities
such as milling wheat, spinning wool,
iron-working and wood-working. Traces
of these craft industries can still be
seen today along the riverbank, and
now that the wooden irrigation channel
and the wheel of one of the mills have
been restored, there is a pleasant route
you can follow that will take you past
three old mills, the original wooden
wheel of one of which can still be seen.
Particularly interesting is the visit to
the “Baldovin Carulli” workshop for
the production of electrical energy,
powered by water and still operative.
The mill route is clearly marked out and
is accessible to all, from the square
towards the banks of the Rio Rin. Visits
can also be booked at the local “pro
loco” tourist information office.

Ad un anno dalla scomparsa di Mario Rigoni
Stern, l’Associazione Erma Museo Murer
omaggia la memoria del famoso scrittore con
una mostra a lui dedicata, allestita all’interno
del Museo Murer a Falcade; già sede in passato
di eventi culturali di rilievo e contenente
in esposizione permanente delle opere del
grande artista falcadino. La mostra racconta
la vita di Rigoni Stern attraverso gigantografie
di foto di famiglia, disegni di Murer sul tema
del Sergente della Neve, sezioni video con
documenti e interviste, esposizione di varie
opere a tema. A disposizione dei visitatori vi
è un libro catalogo con all’interno interventi
di molti artisti illustri. Nel mese di luglio, nello
spazio antistante il Municipio di Falcade, ci
sarà un incontro con Ermanno Olmi, i familiari
e gli amici dello scrittore. La Mostra è aperta
al pubblico tutti i giorni, dal 16 giugno al 10
settembre, dalle ore 10.00 alle ore 12.00 e
dalle ore 15.30 alle ore 19.00.

A year on from the death of Mario Rigoni
Stern, the Erma Association of the Murer
Museum will be paying homage to the wellknown
writer, dedicating an exhibition to him
inside the Murer Museum in Falcade, which
has already hosted a series of prestigious
CULTURE IN THE MOUNTAINS
cultural events and contains a permanent
exhibition of the works of the great local
artist. The exhibition tells the story of Rigoni
Stern’s life through family photographs,
drawings by Augusto Murer on the subject
of his book “Il Sergente della Neve”, video
sections with documentaries and interviews,
and an exhibition of various related works.
Visitors will also find a catalogue of the
exhibition containing contributions from a
large number of illustrious artists. In the
month of July, in the space in front of Falcade
Town Hall, there will be an encounter with the
film director Ermanno Olmi, as well as friends
and family of Rigoni Stern. The Exhibition will
be open to the public every day from 16th
June to 10th September, from 10 a.m. to
12.00 and from 3.30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

I 15 anni del Parco Nazionale
Dolomiti Bellunesi
Feltre ospita una mostra fotografica dedicata
ai primi 15 anni di vita del Parco Nazionale Dolomiti
Bellunesi: dal 20 giugno al 26 luglio.
L’esposizione si compone di una cinquantina
di pannelli a colori. Si parte con la sezione
“i protagonisti”, dedicata ai tanti ricercatori,
studenti, volontari… che sono l’anima del
Parco. La mostra illustra sinteticamente anche
gli “strumenti” di gestione del territorio: il Piano
del Parco e il Piano Pluriennale Economico
e Sociale. Il Parco ha investito e continua ad
investire molte risorse nelle attività di ricerca,
illustrate nella terza sezione della mostra:
flora, vegetazione, fauna, geologia, aspetti
socio-economici e storico-culturali. La parte
più corposa dell’esposizione è dedicata agli
interventi sul territorio: recupero malghe e
rifugi, ristrutturazione di vecchie casere, centri
visitatori, sentieri escursionistici e didattici.
Un pannello è dedicato alla cura del territorio,
mentre la quinta sezione della mostra illustra i
progetti educativi: dai laboratori per i bambini
ai master di specializzazione post laurea. I progetti
di comunicazione del Parco sono invece il
soggetto dell’ultima sezione della mostra.

A park for the area
The 15th birthday of the
Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park
From 20th June to 26th July, Feltre will be
hosting a photographic exhibition dedicated
to the first 15 years of the Dolomiti Bellunesi
National Park. The exhibition begins with the
“people” section, dedicated to the numerous
researchers, students, volunteers, etc. that
are the very soul of the Park. Then there
will be a section illustrating the territorial
management “tools”: the Park Plan and the
Long-term Economic and Social Development
Plan. The Park has invested – and continues
to invest – a great deal of resources in
research activities, illustrated in the third
section of the exhibition, which deals with
the flora, vegetation, fauna, geology, socioeconomic,
historical and cultural aspects of
the area. The largest part of the exhibition
is dedicated to work carried out in the area,
such as the recovery and re-use of mountain
summer pastures and refuges, the renovation
of old dairy huts, visitor centres, hiking
trails and educational trails. There is a panel
explaining how the area is taken care of, while
the fifth section illustrates the educational
projects carried out: from workshops for
children to specialist post-graduate master’s
degrees. The advertising and information
campaigns of the Park are dealt with in the
final section of the exhibition.

Sta riscuotendo un notevole successo la mostra
allestita a Palazzo Crepadona di Belluno,
dedicata ad Andrea Brustolon: geniale scultore e
intagliatore barocco, definito il “Michelangelo del
legno” da Honoré de Balzac. Si tratta della prima
monografica a lui dedicata, l’evento è organizzato
da: Comune di Belluno, Regione del Veneto, Provincia
di Belluno, Soprintendenza per i Beni Storici, Artistici
ed Etnoantropologici per le province di Venezia, Belluno,
Padova e Treviso e Diocesi di Belluno e Feltre, con il sostegno
della Fondazione Cariverona. L’allestimento, di grande effetto, è firmato
dall’architetto Mario Botta. Due filoni
principali caratterizzano l’esposizione:
arredi d’interno, con committenze di
famiglie nobili bellunesi e veneziane, e
arte sacra, con altari, angeli e suppellettili
ecclesiastici. Molte delle opere esposte
provengono da prestigiose collezioni
che permettono al visitatore di seguire
concretamente l’intero processo creativo
dello scultore. La mostra è completata
da itinerari sul territorio provinciale in cui
sono conservate fondamentali opere del
Maestro e in particolare i suoi straordinari
altari lignei: dalla chiesa bellunese di San
Pietro al Museo Diocesano di Feltre sino

The exhibition dedicated to Andrea Brustolon, which
can be visited in Palazzo Crepadona in the centre
of Belluno, is proving very popular with visitors. This
is the first exhibition entirely dedicated to the masterly
Baroque sculptor and woodcarver that Honoré de Balzac
dubbed “the Michelangelo of wood”. The event has been
organised by the Municipality of Belluno, the Veneto Region, the
Province of Belluno, the Superintendence Office for the Historical,
Cultural and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of the provinces of
Venice, Belluno, Padua and Treviso and the Diocese of Belluno and Feltre,
with the support of the Cariverona Foundation. The striking set of the
exhibition was designed by the architect Mario Botta. There are two main
sections to the exhibition: an interior decoration section, featuring objects
commissioned by noble families from Belluno and Venice; and a sacred
art section, including altars, angels and ecclesiastical objects. Many of
the works on display come from prestigious collections, and offer visitors
the opportunity to gain a clear overview of the sculptor’s entire creative
process. The exhibition is complemented by a series of itineraries through
the province, along which visitors can admire significant works of the great
artist, in particular his

Per il settimo anno consecutivo il Conservatorio
Tomadini di Udine organizza per l’estate
2009 le sue Vacanze Musicali nella valle
sappadina: straordinario connubio di musica
e festa, studio e relax, esibizioni all’aperto
nella suggestiva cornice delle montagne
di Sappada e concerti nella solennità delle
sue chiese. Il Direttore Artistico dell’evento
sarà anche quest’anno il prof. Paolo Pellarin,
a garanzia dell’elevata qualità del Festival
musicale. La manifestazione, sostenuta dal
Comune di Sappada, si articola alternando
corsi di perfezionamento (aperti a tutti
gli studenti dei conservatori italiani) alle
apparizioni in pubblico degli Allievi, attesissime

abitanti. Le Vacanze Musicali si svolgeranno

This summer, for the seventh consecutive
year, the Tomadini Academy of Music
will be organising Vacanze Musicali, or
Musical Holidays in the Sappada valley:
an extraordinary blend of music and fun,
study and relaxation, open-air performances
in the splendid setting of the mountains
of Sappada and concerts in the solemn
atmosphere of the local churches. Once
again this year, the Artistic Director of the
event will be Professor Paolo Pellarin, so a
first-rate festival is guaranteed. The event,
organised with the support of the Municipal
Council of Sappada, will include both music
courses (open to students from music
academies throughout Italy), alternating with
public performances by the students, and
is eagerly awaited by both the locals and
visitors to Sappada. Vacanze Musicali will
take place in the months of July and August
and the first week of September. During
the same period, the Bands Festival will also
be held, with music and folk parades taking
place every Sunday.

Il Palazzo Corte Metto, storico edificio
signorile situato nel centro di Auronzo, è la
sede del nuovo museo multitematico. Un
percorso affascinante fra natura ed archeologia
alla scoperta della storia del territorio
del Cadore, fruibile dagli adulti ma anche
dai ragazzi grazie all’ausilio di didascalie,
pannelli didattici
e sistemi
audiovisivi. Il
primo piano è
dedicato alle
scienze della
vita e della
terra, dove
ci accoglie
la ricostruzione
di un
dinosauro, le
cui impronte
sono state
rinvenute ai
piedi delle
Tre Cime,
che attirerà
sicuramente
l’attenzione
dei più piccoli.

Il percorso prosegue illustrando temi come
l’acqua, il suolo, la successione degli ambienti
dalle quote più basse alle quote più alte, affiancando
anche aspetti che riguardano l’uomo. Il
secondo piano ospita la sezione archeologica,
con importanti reperti ritrovati nella zona
del comune di Auronzo di Cadore; mentre al
quarto piano sono protagonisti i minerali che
raccontano la loro storia millenaria e quella
delle locali miniere.

life and Earth
Palazzo Corte Metto, a historical noble
building located in the centre of Auronzo, is
the setting for a new multi-theme museum
that takes visitors on a fascinating journey
through the nature, archaeology and history
of the Cadore. The museum is suitable
not only for adults, but also for younger
visitors, thanks to the captions, educational
panels and audiovisual systems. The
first floor is dedicated to life and earth
sciences and includes a reconstruction of
a dinosaur whose footprints were found
at the foot of the Tre Cime, sure to be
popular with children. Also illustrated here
are subjects such as water, the soil, the
way in which environments change as the
altitude increases, also covering aspects
related to Man. The second floor houses
the archaeological section, which contains
important finds made in the municipality of
Auronzo di Cadore, while on the fourth floor
visitors can admire minerals that tell the
thousand years of history of the area and
the story of the local mines.

Fornesighe in musica
Domenica 9 agosto, a Fornesighe di Zoldo, si svolgerà la quinta
edizione della rassegna Fornesighe in musica. L’evento, uno dei più importanti
dell’estate zoldana, consiste in una serie di concerti di musica
classica che si terranno negli angoli più suggestivi del pittoresco paese.
I musicisti, di grande spessore artistico, provengono da ogni parte
d’Italia e anche dall’estero. I concerti iniziano nella tarda mattinata e
proseguono fino a sera. Durante tutto l’arco della giornata saranno in
funzione degli stand enogastronomici dove si potranno degustare anche
specialità tipiche locali. Alle ore 20.30 concluderà la giornata una
serata danzante. Anche quest’anno, visto il successo della passata
edizione, Fornesighe in musica si svolgerà nell’arco di due giornate:
si comincia infatti già sabato 8 agosto con le esibizioni degli
allievi iscritti alle scuole di musica della provincia di Belluno,
che daranno prova della loro preparazione nei
suggestivi vicoli di Fornesighe.

The fifth edition gets under way
Sunday 9th August will see the fifth edition of the “Fornesighe
in musica” festival, held in Fornesighe di Zoldo. One of the
most important events on Zoldo’s summer calendar, the festival
consists of a series of classical music concerts held in the most
attractive corners of this picturesque little village. The superbly
talented musicians taking part come from all over Italy and
beyond, and the concerts go on from late in the morning until
evening. Throughout the day, food stalls will be open, where
visitors can sample tasty local specialities. At 8.30 p.m. the day
will come to a close with an evening dance. Once again this year,
given the success of the last edition, “Fornesighe in musica”
will take place over two days, beginning on Saturday 8th August
with a performance given by the students of the music schools
in the province of Belluno, who will be demonstrating what they
have learned throughout the charming little streets and lanes of
Fornesighe.

Discovering the Alpago along
the Cammino delle Dolomiti route
Dici «Dolomiti» e uno pensa subito alle Tre Cime di Lavaredo, alle
Tofane, a Pelmo e Civetta, alla Marmolada. Eppure esistono, tra i
Monti Pallidi, scenari affascinanti ancora poco noti e scarsamente
frequentati, ricchi del fascino di una montagna “vera”, abitata da
gente che ha deciso di “resistere” in quota, rifi utando le comodità e
i luoghi comuni della discesa a valle. Molte tappe del Cammino delle
Dolomiti - l’itinerario escursionistico che abbraccia l’intera provincia
di Belluno - offrono una risposta interessante a chi va in cerca di
questi scenari.
Il Cammino è stato ideato dalla Diocesi di Belluno-Feltre in collaborazione
con la Provincia di Belluno, e muove proprio dall’idea di
mettere in collegamento i luoghi più signifi cativi della fede di questo
splendido comprensorio montano, con un occhio di riguardo per i
segni della storia, dell’arte e dell’antica presenza umana. Le tappe
26 e 27 del Cammino, in questa prospettiva, sono tutte da scoprire.
Le sedi di tappa sono Longarone, Farra d’Alpago e l’altopiano
del Nevegàl, ma ciò che suggeriamo è proprio un approfondimento
della zona intermedia. Il Cammino delle Dolomiti, d’altra parte, è
pensato proprio per essere “ridisegnato” da chi lo vuole percorrere,
secondo le proprie esigenze.
Suggeriamo pertanto di partire da Soverzene, con la grande centrale
idroelettrica. Il percorso porta a conoscere Ponte nelle Alpi,
attraversa la piana di Paludi mostrando progressivamente la corona
dei monti dell’Alpago, camminando sempre lontani dal traffi co su
terreni quasi pianeggianti, fi no a raggiungere Bastia. Qui il percorso
si addentra nell’oasi faunistica degli Sbarài, in un contesto ricco di
acque dove l’avifauna è di grande interesse. Una nuova passerella
pedonale e ciclabile consente il superamento del torrente Tesa: qui
il paesaggio, usciti dal bosco degli Sbarai, si apre con la splendida
visione del lago e dell’anfi teatro. La sosta sulla spiaggia di Farra
d’Alpago è d’obbligo. Si può continuare a camminare per qualche
altro centinaio di metri lungo il Cammino fi no a Poiatte, ma suggeriamo
di dirigersi verso l’abitato di Farra, dove la chiesa parrocchiale
è stata arricchita dall’opera scultorea di Andrea Brustolon, cui
Belluno dedica proprio in questi mesi una grande mostra a Palazzo
Crepadona.
The word “Dolomites” immediately conjures up images of the
Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Tofane, the Pelmo and the Civetta, the
Marmolada. Amid the “Pale Mountains”, there are, however, a
number of attractive, yet little-known areas to explore, fascinating
for those in search of the “authentic” mountains, inhabited by
people who have chosen to “stick it out” up in the mountains,
shunning the convenience and commonplaces of the valley. Many
of the stages that make up the Cammino delle Dolomiti - the hiking
route that covers the whole of the province of Belluno – offer a
series of interesting options to this kind of visitor.
The Cammino route was an idea of the Diocese of Belluno-Feltre,
who mapped out the route in collaboration with the Province of
Belluno. The idea behind the route was to link up the places of
greatest spiritual signifi cance in this splendid mountain territory,
paying attention also to the traces left behind by history, art and the
passage of Man through the area.

Stages 26 and 27 of the Cammino are especially interesting from
this point of view. The route runs from Longarone to Farra d’Alpago,
and from Farra to the Nevegàl plateau, but what we suggest visitors
explore are the areas in between. The Cammino delle Dolomiti, after
all, was specifically conceived to be “re-designed” according to the
particular needs and desires of those who choose to explore it.
We suggest setting off from the large hydroelectrical plant in
Soverzene. The route will take you through the area of Ponte nelle
Alpi, across the Paludi plain; as you walk along, the crown of the
mountains of the Alpago will slowly come into view, and you will
gradually leave the traffic behind on your way to Bastia. Here the
route enters into the Sbarài nature reserve, an area rich in water
which boasts a particularly interesting variety of birds. A new
footpath, also suitable for cyclists, will take you across the Tesa
Torrent: here, once you come out of the Sbarai wood, a marvellous
landscape unfolds before you, with splendid views of the lake and
the rock amphitheatre, and a stop by the “beach” on the banks
of the lake in Farra d’Alpago is a must. You can walk on along
the route for another few hundred metres on to Poiatte, but our
suggestion is to head towards the village of Farra, where the parish
church has been enhanced with the sculptures of Andrea Brustolon,
to whom Belluno is dedicating a major exhibition this spring and
summer in Palazzo Crepadona.

Tre giorni di cammino e meditazione

Three days of walking and meditation
L’esperienza dell’anno scorso è stata pienamente
positiva e così la Diocesi di Belluno-
Feltre proporrà anche nel 2009 gli “Esercizi
spirituali itineranti” lungo il Cammino delle
Dolomiti. Tre giorni di meditazione, ascoltando
il rumore dei propri passi, al cospetto
delle Dolomiti. Il gruppo partirà da Alleghe
il 21 agosto; dopo la prima meditazione
nella chiesa parrocchiale, in riva al lago e
al cospetto della parete nord del Civetta, si
procede lungo la tappa 11 del Cammino delle
Dolomiti. Due ore in piano fino a Rocca Pietore,
salita fino all’impareggiabile balconata
di Ronch di Laste, nel pomeriggio discesa
verso Digonera e il sacrario di Pian di Salesei,
ed infine salita a Pieve di Livinallongo, sede
di tappa. Il secondo giorno, 22 agosto, da
Pieve di Livinallongo il gruppo percorrerà la
tappa 12, quella dell’incontro con le frazioni
più elevate della provincia, sui fianchi del Col
di Lana tristemente noto per le migliaia di
morti della Grande Guerra. Gli austeri ruderi
del castello di Andraz, ricorderanno l’antichità
della presenza umana tra queste valli, all’inizio
della salita che conduce al Falzarego, il punto
più elevato del Cammino delle Dolomiti. Il 23
agosto il gruppo scenderà dal Falzarego per
raggiungere Cortina, in tempo per unirsi alla
“Messa grande” nella chiesa parrocchiale: il
percorso prevede la discesa dal Falzarego
lungo la digressione G del Cammino delle
Dolomiti, appositamente tracciata dal Cai di
Cortina d’Ampezzo per portare i pellegrini dal
passo al centro di Cortina restando completamente
fuori dal traffico della strada statale.
Last year’s experience was so positive that
the Diocese of Belluno-Feltre has decided
to organise another series of “spiritual
exercises on the move” along the Cammino
delle Dolomiti route for summer 2009.
Three days spent meditating and listening
to the sound of your own footsteps, with
the Dolomites before you. The group will
set out from Alleghe on 21st August;
following the first stop to meditate in the
parish church, on the banks of the lake and
in sight of the north wall of Monte Civetta,
the group will continue along stage 11 of
the Cammino delle Dolomiti route. Two
hours along the flat on to Rocca Pietore,
followed by a climb up to the marvellous
balcony of Ronch di Laste; in the afternoon,
the descent towards Digonera and the war
memorial at Pian di Salesei, followed by
the climb up to Pieve di Livinallongo, end of
the stage. On day two, 22nd August, the
group will leave Pieve di Livinallongo and
set out along stage 12, which covers the
higher-up villages of the province, on the
slopes of Col di Lana, where thousands of
soldiers lost their lives during the Great War.

were inhabited, and mark the beginning
of the climb up to Falzarego, the highest
point on the Cammino delle Dolomiti. On
23rd August the group will walk down from
Falzarego to Cortina, just in time to join the
“Messa grande” in the parish church: they
will follow diversion G of the Cammino delle
Dolomiti down from Falzarego, marked
out by the Cortina d’Ampezzo section of
the Italian Alpine Club to bring pilgrims
down from the pass right into the centre of
Cortina, keeping completely away from the
traffic of the trunk road.

Chiare, fresche,
dolci, acque…
Nelle calde ed assolate giornate estive rinasce
in noi il desiderio di scoprire o riscoprire
luoghi incontaminati, seppur vicini, dove
l’acqua è l’elemento dominante. Un itinerario
particolarmente suggestivo è quello della
cascata della Pissotta, in Comune di Mel.
Dalla frazione di Villa di Villa si procede per
Rive di Villa e, dopo due chilometri, attraversato
il piccolo borgo di Cordellon, si parcheggia
all’ampio piazzale di Val Fontane, da cui parte
il percorso a piedi. Percorrendo la rampa
cementata si raggiunge casera Scarlir, base
scout dell’Agesci, da dove si può ammirare
il panorama sulla verde vallata del torrente
Rimonta. Seguendo la strada bianca si trova,
dopo pochi minuti di cammino, la segnaletica
per la cascata. Il tracciato è ben segnato
ma non va sottovalutato in caso di terreno
bagnato. Giunti ad alcuni ruderi si apre una
piana dalla quale, sporgendosi brevemente,
è possibile ammirare la cascata in tutta la
sua lunghezza (oltre 50 metri). Un percorso
attrezzato con parapetti e cordino metallico
consente di arrivare alla base di partenza del
getto d’acqua. Il tempo di percorrenza a piedi
è di circa un’ora e mezzo.

Cool, crystal-clear
waters…
The hot sunny days of summer awaken in
us the desire to discover – or re-discover –
those unspoilt places close by in which water
is the predominant element. A particularly
attractive route is the one that leads to the
“Cascata della Pissotta” waterfall, in the
Municipality of Mel. From the little village of
Villa di Villa, continue through Rive di Villa
and, after two kilometres, after crossing the
little neighbourhood of Cordellon, leave your
car in the large Val Fontane parking area,
from where the route continues on foot.
Take the cement ramp up to Casera Scarlir,
the AGESCI scout base, from where there
is a magnifi cent view over the green valley
of the Rimonta Torrent. After a few minutes’
walk along the unpaved road, you will see
the signs for the waterfall. The route is well
marked out, but care is required when the
ground is wet. When you come to some
ruins, a plain opens out; from here, if you lean
slightly forward, you can admire the full length
(over 50 metres) of the waterfall. An equipped
route with parapets and a metal rope allows
you to reach the base from which the jet of
water springs. The walking route takes about
an hour and a half.

La Cascata delle Pile è un luogo antico e suggestivo, meta
adatta a tutte le fasce d’età e famiglie.
Si raggiunge con l’auto la Capanna degli Alpini; da qui si procede
a piedi su di un sentiero facile e breve all’interno di una stretta
gola rocciosa.
Per facilitare ed assicurare la visione dell’imponente e refrigerante
cascata il sentiero è attrezzato con scalette ed un comodo corrimano;
all’interno nella vicina grotta è poi visitabile la statua della
Madonna delle Nevi.

The Cascata delle Pile waterfall is an ancient, alluring spot, and
a suitable destination for families and visitors of all ages.
You can drive to the Capanna degli Alpini and continue on foot
along a short, easy path inside a narrow rocky ravine.
To help visitors see the striking, cool waterfall properly, the path is
equipped with steps and a convenient handrail; inside the nearby
grotto you can visit the statue of the Madonna delle Nevi.

merci dalla Val di Fassa al Cordevole, fu abbandonato
fino ai primi anni del ‘900, quando un
alpinista tedesco di nome Karl Bindel decise
di recuperarlo: da qui il nome Bindelweg, con
cui gli escursionisti tedeschi ancora oggi si
riferiscono a questo “classico” della zona. Il
sentiero, che collega il passo Pordoi (m. 2239)
con la stazione di arrivo della funivia di Portavescovo
(m. 2478), è percorribile in entrambi
i sensi di marcia. Si sviluppa senza grosse
difficoltà, sempre in quota, regalando una
vista stupenda sulle montagne circostanti ed
in particolare sul ghiacciaio della Marmolada e
sul lago di Fedaia. Lungo il percorso si trovano
diversi rifugi dove fermarsi a fare una pausa o
uno spuntino e a godere il panorama.

A beautiful route
through the north of
the Val Cordevole
The Viel del Pan is a superb high-mountain
walking route lasting about two and a half
hours, not particularly challenging and thus
very popular with summer holidaymakers
staying in Arabba. The route, once a trading
route for goods being transported from the Val
di Fassa to the Cordevole, was left abandoned
until the early 20th century, when a German
mountaineer by the name of Karl Bindel
decided to restore it: this is why German hiking
enthusiasts still refer to this “classic” of the
area as Bindelweg. The path, which links the
Pordoi Pass (2239 m) with the arrival station
of the Portavescovo cableway (2478 m),
can be tackled in both directions, and climbs
steadily upwards, without presenting particular
difficulties, offering a breathtaking view over
the surrounding peaks and in particular the
Marmolada glacier and Fedaia Lake. There are
several refuges along the way where you can
stop for a rest or a snack, or simply to enjoy
the view.

Sci d’erba, che bell’idea!
Grass skiing, what a great idea!
Anche per gli amanti dello sci d’erba le Dolomiti Bellunesi offrono itinerari interessanti. L’estate 2009 è colma di impegni importanti, con la chiusura
della Coppa del Mondo il 12 e 13 settembre a Forni di Sopra ed i Mondiali, sia per la massima categoria che per i giovani. Ma in provincia di
Belluno si offre la possibilità di praticare questo sport anche ai semplici turisti che per la prima volta si avvicinano a questa disciplina. A Belluno
è attiva la pista Barotol a Quantin di Ponte nelle Alpi; posto ideale per avvicinarsi allo sci d’erba anche perché qui si incontrano e si allenano
molti atleti plurimedagliati, che mettono a disposizione dei principianti la propria esperienza e i loro materiali per provare quest’emozione. Lo sci
club Ponte nelle Alpi è la società di riferimento per la Provincia di Belluno in quanto gestisce la pista, gli eventi e organizza tutti gli allenamenti
che qui si svolgono con regolarità da maggio a settembre. Chi si appassiona a questo sport può ottenere grandi soddisfazioni sia a livello agonistico
che amatoriale; un mondo ancora pulito, poco sfruttato dal punto di vista commerciale, e non di massa.

The Belluno Dolomites also have some interesting options on offer for grass skiing fans. Summer 2009 is
replete with important events, such as the closing events of the World Cup on 12th and 13th September in
Forni di Sopra, and the adult and junior World Championships. The province of Belluno also offers the chance,
however, for visitors to try their hand at this sport, perhaps for the very fi rst time. In Quantin di Ponte nelle
Alpi you can find the Barotol run, ideal for those aiming to try grass skiing for the fi rst time: many skilled
medal-winners come here to train, and are happy to offer their long experience and materials to beginners
who fancy having a go at this thrilling sport. The ski club Ponte nelle Alpi is the centre of grass skiing
for the province of Belluno, responsible for managing the run and organising the events and training
sessions that take place regularly from May through to September. This is a sport able to offer
great satisfaction at both amateur and professional level, because it has not yet become an
activity for the masses and is thus still largely “uncontaminated” by commercial interests.

Uno dei simboli delle Dolomiti accessibile con le guide
Il gruppo dolomitico più famoso al mondo, le Tre Cime di Lavaredo, la conquista della vetta attraverso la via
definita “comune”, è avvenuta nel lontano 1869 il 21 agosto da parte dell’alpinista Paul Grohmann, con le
Guide Alpine Franz Innerkofler e Paul Salcher. Quest’anno si festeggia il 140° della prima ascensione.
Pur essendo uno dei percorsi più frequentati la salita è distribuita su una superficie di passaggio
decisamente estesa con diversi cambi di direzione, si è dunque spesso defilati rispetto alla verticale e
si arrampica su una roccia molto buona e gradevole. Una magnifica parete che non si può non salire
almeno una volta nella vita. Si dorme presso uno dei due rifugi del versante sud, Rifugio Auronzo
oppure Rifugio Lavaredo e la mattina di buonora si sale in direzione della Forcella Lavaredo, ma prima di
raggiungerla si compie una deviazione a sinistra lungo il conoide che divide la Cima Grande dalla Cima
Piccola, qui si procede in cordata, dove le rocce sembrano più abbordabili, ed in tre ore circa, si giunge
in vetta. Lassù, sulla cima, turisti e guida si stringono la mano soddisfatti per l’avventura vissuta insieme,
così come avviene da sempre per le persone che si legano alla stessa corda.

One of the symbols of the Dolomites, accessible with a guide
The Dolomites’ most famous peaks, the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, were conquered along the “common”
route as far back as 21st August 1969 by the mountaineer Paul Grohmann, with the Alpine Guides Franz
Innerkofler and Paul Salcher. This year is the 140th anniversary of the first ascent.
Although it is one of the most popular routes, the climb is spread over a decidedly large surface area,
with several changes of direction; so climbers often find themselves off the vertical route, where the
rock face is agreeable to climb on. This is a magnificent rock wall, one that no climber should fail to
tackle at least once. You can stay overnight in one of the refuges on the south face, the Auronzo Refuge
of the Lavaredo Refuge, get up early in the morning and head up towards the Forcella Lavaredo saddle;
before reaching the saddle, however, there is a turn-off to the left along the fan that separates the Cima
Grande from the Cima Piccola. From here you continue on the rope, where the rocks
seem easier to handle, and in about three hours, you will reach the summit. Up there
on the peak, tourists and guides shake hands in satisfaction at the adventure they
have just experienced together, as has always been the case for climbers on the
same rope.

Il “Sass del Mul” era un avamposto Italiano alle
pendici del ghiacciaio della Marmolada. Partendo
dalla pizzeria La Cianel (m. 1970), in località
Ciamp de Lobia, scendiamo ad attraversare
la pista da sci che scende dalla Marmolada;
volgendo lo sguardo verso il Serauta, alla sua
base vediamo un “colle” di roccia staccato dalla
stessa, il tondeggiante Sass del Mul (m. 2301).
Ci incamminiamo seguendo il sentiero che
porta verso la ferrata “eterna” sino ad incrociare
la vecchia strada militare che seguiremo
sino in cima. La strada è ricca di tornanti e
deviazioni verso i vari spiazzi dove sorgevano i
baraccamenti e postazioni in galleria che puntano
l’attuale lago di Fedaia e la catena del Padon. Un
tratto di strada è intagliato nella roccia e porta
nella trincea quasi intatta della cima. Ben visibili
sono anche i luoghi ove sorgevano le baracche
e, con prudenza, sono anche visitabili le gallerie.
La discesa si può fare a ritroso per il sentiero
appena percorso oppure, per i più esperti,
salendo fino ad incontrare la pista da sci che in
estate diventa strada di servizio. Per i più curiosi
è possibile spingersi fino ai piedi del ghiacciaio
riscendendo poi sempre per la pista sino ad
arrivare al passo Fedaia, leggermente più in alto
del punto di partenza.

The “Sass del Mul” used to be an Italian outpost
on the slopes of the Marmolada glacier. Starting
out from the La Cianel pizzeria (1970 m), at
Ciamp de Lobia, go down and cross the ski
slope that descends from the Marmolada; if
you look right towards the Serauta, at the base
you will see a round-shaped “hill” of rock that
has come away from it: this is the Sass del Mul
(2301 m). Continue along the path that leads
towards the “eternal” via ferrata, until you meet
the old military road, which you then follow up to
the top. The road has a large number of bends
and turn-offs that lead to the various clearings
where there were once the barracks and the
various gallery positions trained on what is now
Fedaia Lake and the Padon chain. A stretch of
road is cut out into the rock and leads into the
practically intact trench on the summit. Also
clearly visible are the places where the barracks
once stood, and the galleries can even be
visited, although care is required. On your way
back, you can return down the same path, but
more expert hikers might like to go up until they
meet the ski slope which in winter becomes a
service road. The more curious among you can
even push on right to the foot of the glacier, and
from there go down along the ski slope until you
come to the Fedaia Pass, slightly higher up than
the departure point.

Serrai in notturna
Terza edizione della gara podistica
Il 31 luglio 2009 si svolgerà la gara podistica in notturna attraverso i Serrai di
Sottoguda. La partenza è fissata per le 19.30. Si tratta di una manifestazione sportiva non
competitiva nell’incantevole scenario della gola dei Serrai. Per i bambini un percorso di 1,5
km che si snoda all’interno dell’abitato di Sottoguda tra antichi fienili e abitazioni. Per gli
adulti il percorso è di circa 6 km: si parte nel centro del paesino, si attraversano i Serrai,
si raggiunge quindi la località di Malga Ciapela, fino all’altezza del campeggio, e si rientra
per il medesimo percorso al punto di partenza. Al termine della gara è prevista una festa
conviviale con premi ad estrazione a Bosco Verde, sotto il tendone degli Alpini.

The night-time race through the Serrai di Sottoguda will take place on 31st July 2009,
with the start set for 7.30 p.m. There are two routes to this non-competitive run through
the enchanting scenery of the Serrai gorge: for children, a 1.5 km route that runs through
the old-style haysheds and houses of the village of Sottoguda, and a 6 km route for adults
that starts out from the centre of the village and runs through the Serrai and on to the

Salita podistica da Ponte nelle Alpi
alla chiesetta
La “SUperSANTANDREA” è una salita podistica, non competitiva,
dalla Piazza di Polpet, frazione di Ponte nelle Alpi, alla chiesetta
di S. Andrea in Monte. Il percorso è di circa 2 km, con un dislivello
di 343 metri: un’occasione per gli atleti ma anche per famiglie e
bambini di salire all’antica chiesetta del monte Frùsseda, lungo il
sentiero nel bosco, e godere dello splendido panorama su Alpago
e Valbelluna. Prime partenze individuali a cronometro, a seguire
partenza in linea. Premi ai primi classificati, alle varie categorie
giovanili e ad estrazione. Il ricavato sarà destinato ad opere di
manutenzione della chiesetta di S.Andrea. La corsa è inserita
nel programma della manifestazione “Paesi Aperti”, promossa
dal Comune di Ponte nelle Alpi e organizzata dalle frazioni con
tappa a Polpet anche venerdì 10, rappresentazione teatrale
presso il Borgo Livinal, e sabato 11 luglio, con giochi per bambini,
mercatino/esposizione, cena nei cortili con animazione musicale.
L’organizzazione è a cura del Comitato Frazionale di Polpet,
l’appuntamento per il 12 luglio alle ore 9.30.

and organised by the surrounding villages, which also includes a
theatre performance in Polpet on Friday 10th July, at Borgo Livinal,
and a market/exhibition on Saturday 11th, with games organised
for children and dinner in the village courtyards to the sound of
music. The run will be organised by the Polpet Village Committee,
and the date to put in your diary is 12th July, time 9.30 a.m.
Ponte nelle Alpi
The “SUperSANTANDREA” is a non-competitive uphill race from
the square in Polpet, near Ponte nelle Alpi, to the little church of
S. Andrea in Monte. The route is around 2 km long, with a climb
of 343 metres, and is an attractive challenge for athletes, but
also a chance for families and children to make their way up along
the woodland path to the little church on Monte Frùsseda, where
you can enjoy splendid views of the Alpago and the Valbelluna. A

The thrill of the air
Volo libero / Free flying
Estate. Il desiderio di essere liberi, di
assaporare nuove emozioni, di vivere
esperienze che vanno al di là del tempo ed
oltre i limiti dello spazio, più in alto, verso il
cielo delle Dolomiti. Allora lanciatevi, con gli
istruttori delle scuole di volo dell’Alpago e del
Feltrino, alla ricerca delle leggi dell’aria, alla
scoperta dei segreti della “vela”, fi no a toccare
il cielo con un dito.
È attorno alla metà degli anni ’70 che, complici
le caratteristiche morfologiche del territorio,
il deltaplano e poi il parapendio diventano uno
degli sport simbolo della conca dell’Alpago. Qui,
da più di 20 anni, opera sotto la direzione di
Felice Boccanegra la Scuola di volo Dolada.
Per coloro che si avvicinano per la prima volta
al mondo del volo libero, la scuola propone
voli in parapendio biposto con decollo dal
Monte Dolada: affidati alle mani esperte degli
istruttori, verrete accompagnati a conoscere il
cielo, un volo mozzafiato che vi permetterà di
ammirare dall’alto le più belle cime dell’Alpago.
In inverno, e su richiesta nel periodo estivo,
è possibile decollare anche da Palafavera di
Zoldo Alto. Ai volatori più esperti la scuola
riserva invece corsi individuali di parapendio di
vario livello e corsi di sicurezza (SIV) sul Lago
di Santa Croce. Nel periodo invernale i più
spericolati possono inoltre cimentarsi nello
speed riding in Nevegal e nello speed fly, due
nuove specialità che uniscono al volo libero
rispettivamente lo sci alpino e l’alpinismo.
Anche nel Feltrino, sul Monte Avena, le
emozioni ad alta quota sono assicurate. Dai
primi anni ’90 è attiva la scuola Volo Libero
Monte Avena, ora Aeroclub Feltre, nata
dalla passione per il volo di Maurizio Bottegal
-5 volte campione italiano - e Ivo Gadenz,
precursori di questo sport nelle valli Feltrine e
del Primiero. La scuola è divenuta con il tempo
un punto di riferimento per tutti coloro che
desiderano avvicinarsi al più puro degli sport
dell’aria e, grazie ai materiali ed alle tecniche di
insegnamento all’avanguardia, una delle realtà
più avanzate in Italia. Le attività offerte spaziano
dai corsi di parapendio di base ed avanzati ai
corsi SIV, dai corsi di paramotore a quelli di
speed riding, ancora dagli stage motivazionali
ai corsi dedicati ai piloti che vogliono imparare a
“Volare Meglio”.
Se invece preferite rimanere con i piedi per
terra e lasciare che il vostro sguardo si perda
nel blu, non perdete l’appuntamento con la
26.ma edizione del Guarnieri International
Trophy, competizione internazionale di
parapendio e deltaplano che si terrà sul
Monte Avena dal 26 al 28 giugno 2009.
A partire dalle ore 12, tutti con il naso all’insù
per ammirare 150 tra i piloti più forti al mondo
veleggiare sulle vette delle Dolomiti.

So why not give free flying a try, with the
instructors of the schools in the Alpago and
Feltrino areas, who are just waiting to teach
you the laws of the air, to help you discover the
secrets of “sailing” through the clouds until you
can touch the sky with your fingertips.
The particular features of the surrounding
landscape helped first hang gliding and then
paragliding become symbols of sporting life in
the Alpago basin, around the mid-1970s, and
Felice Boccanegra’s Dolada Flying School
has been in operation here for over 20 years.
For newcomers to the world of free flying, the
school offers flights in two-seater paragliders,
which take off from Monte Dolada: in tandem
with expert instructors, you can explore the
skies in safety, admiring the breathtakingly
beautiful, lofty peaks of the Alpago area. In
winter, and on request also in the summer, you
can also take off from Palafavera di Zoldo Alto.
For the more experienced, the school organises
individual paragliding courses at various levels,
as well as SIV safety courses on Santa Croce
Lake. During the winter, the most daring
among you might like to try your hand at speed
riding in Nevegal and speed fly, two new
speciality disciplines that couple free flying with
downhill skiing and mountaineering.
High-sky thrills are also on offer in the Feltrino
area, on Monte Avena. The early 1990s saw
the founding of the Monte Avena Free Flying
School, now known as Aeroclub Feltre, set up
as a result of the passion for flying of Maurizio
Bottegal -5 times Italian champion - and Ivo
Gadenz, pioneers of this sport in the valleys
of the Feltrino and Primiero areas. Over the
years the school has acquired an excellent
reputation among those who want to learn
more about the purest of aerial sports; thanks
to the cutting-edge techniques and teaching
techniques used, this is one of the leading
schools in Italy. The activities offered range
from basic and advanced paragliding courses
to SIV safety courses, from paramotor courses
to speed riding courses, and from motivational
encounters to special courses for pilots who
want to learn how to “Fly Better”.
If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground
and gaze into the endless blue of the sky,
make sure you don’t miss the 26th edition
of the Guarnieri International Trophy, an
international paragliding and hang gliding
competition due to be held on Monte Avena
from 26th to 28th June. From midday, all
eyes will be trained on the sky to admire 150

NORDIC WALKING TRA VERDI
PASCOLI E FAGGI SECOLARI
Il 13 agosto grande appuntamento per gli amanti del NordicWalking a
Tambre d’Alpago.
Questa sana e divertente disciplina, praticata inizialmente dagli atleti dello
sci di fondo e combinata nordica, fu presentata per la prima volta nel
1997 in Finlandia. Oltre un milione di persone sono oggi gli appassionati di
questo sport, una disciplina semplice e di rapido apprendimento.
La manifestazione, che si svolge in concomitanza con la gara podistica
“Su e dò par i troi”, si inoltra nelle più belle zone boschive dell’Alpago: tra i
verdi pascoli e faggi secolari. Partenza nella piazza di Tambre, si prosegue
poi fi no a Col Indes, quindi la Chiesa di S.Anna, Col Saler, Broz e arrivo
nuovamente nel centro di Tambre. Il percorso ha una lunghezza totale di 12
km ed un dislivello di 350 metri circa.

Nordic Walking fans mustn’t fail to put the 13th of August in their diaries this summer.
This fun, healthy activity is simple and easy to learn. It was initially practised by Nordic combined athletes and cross-country skiers, and presented for
the first time in 1997 in Finland; today it boasts over a million fans.
The event will be held in Tambre d’Alpago, alongside the “Su e dò par i troi” run, winding its way through the most beautiful woodlands in the Alpago,
amid green fields and venerable beech trees. The route starts out from the square in Tambre and moves on towards Col Indes, then on to the Church
of S.Anna, Col Saler and Broz, before heading back to the square in Tambre. Total distance 12 km, total difference in level approx. 350 metres.

Il percorso ha inizio a Lentiai, al parcheggio
situato al bivio per Colderù, direzione
zona artigianale, su strada asfaltata poco
traffi cata. In prossimità di un piccolo parco
giochi gira a sinistra per poi entrare nel
prato e proseguire verso destra. Superato
un ponticello, si scende sulla destra al greto
di un torrente e, dopo averne percorsi pochi
metri, si svolta nuovamente a destra. Qui
ha inizio un bellissimo sentiero che taglia
in costa uno splendido bosco di carpini
molto suggestivo in autunno. Incontrata una
vecchia strada asfaltata si piega decisi a
sinistra lungo una traccia più ampia che porta
in salita. Da qui il tratto più impegnativo.
L’uscita dal bosco conduce al cortile di una
casa e quindi alla strada d’accesso sterrata
da dove è possibile ammirare il panorama
sulla valle del Piave e sulle Prealpi Bellunesi.
Attraversata la strada asfaltata, il sentiero
continua prima nel prato e poi nuovamente
nel bosco sino a salire all’abitato di Colderù.
Una suggestiva scalinata conduce alla
piccola, ma preziosa, chiesa che al suo
interno presenta una pregevole serie di
affreschi del 1500, che meritano una
deviazione (possibilità di visite guidate).

continua in discesa

on a quiet asphalt
road. Near the small children’s park, turn left,
enter the fi eld and continue on towards the
right. Cross a little bridge and go down to the
left to the bed of a torrent, and after a few
metres, turn right again onto the beginning of
a beautiful path that runs around the mountain
through a splendid hornbeam wood that is
particularly attractive in the autumn. When you
come to an old asphalt road, turn sharp left
along a broader trail that leads upwards. This
is where the most challenging stretch begins.
The exit from the woods leads to the courtyard
of a house and then to a dirt road, from where
you can admire the view over the Piave valley
and the Belluno Pre-Alps. Once you cross the
asphalt road, the path continues, fi rst through
the fi eld and then through the woods until it
goes up to the village of Colderù. An attractive
set of steps leads up to a beautiful little church,
inside which it is worth stopping to admire a
fi ne series of 16th century frescoes (guided
visits possible). After just a few stops along
the asphalt road, the route continues downhill
along the “path of the shrines”, which runs fi rst
through the fi eld and then in the woods, with
a steep stretch that leads back up onto the
asphalt to the departure point. This simple, 5
km-long route takes about an hour and a half.

Domenica 12 luglio gli amanti delle due
ruote potranno dimenticare per qualche ora
gas di scarico e inquinamento acustico e
godersi il silenzio circondati da splendidi
scenari: i quattro passi dolomitici intorno
al massiccio del Sella -Campolongo,
Gardena, Pordoi e Sella- saranno infatti
chiusi al traffi co automobilistico, dalle 9.00
alle 15.30, e riservati esclusivamente ai
ciclisti. Si tratta di una manifestazione non
competitiva che ha lo scopo di regalare
a turisti e residenti, adulti e bambini,
appassionati di tutti i livelli, una giornata
all’insegna del divertimento in totale
sicurezza.
Lungo il percorso numerosi punti di ristoro;
ristoranti, baite e rifugi proporranno piatti
a tema e regaleranno ai partecipanti
simpatici omaggi in ricordo della giornata.
In bici sulle rive del Boite
L’estate favorisce meravigliose escursioni in mountain bike lungo tutta la Valboite. Fra le
tante possibilità escursionistiche risulta alquanto suggestivo un itinerario che si snoda lungo il
torrente Boite, attraverso boschi di abeti e larici. Dal campo sportivo, facilmente raggiungibile in
bicicletta anche dal centro del paese, si imbocca Via Geralba. Passata Baita Prà Solio, eventuale
punto di ristoro, una strada bianca immersa nel verde conduce al Ponte di Geralba. Attraversato
il ponte è necessario tenere la destra e percorrere una strada pianeggiante che giunge in breve
tempo ad un secondo ponticello. Di qui, una serie di saliscendi porta nuovamente alla zona
del Ponte di Geralba. Tornati al campo sportivo si potrà raggiungere il Laghetto di Mosigo per
riposarsi, immersi nella quiete e nel verde. Il dislivello in salita è minimo, circa cento metri, e le
salite sono comunque brevi. L’escursione, della durata non superiore ad un’ora, è semplice e
adatta alle famiglie.

Cycling along the banks of the Boite Torrent
Summer is the ideal season for marvellous mountain bike trips throughout the Valboite. One
particularly appealing itinerary is the one that winds its way alongside the Boite Torrent, through
fi r and larch woods. From the sports fi eld, which can easily be reached by bike from the centre
of San Vito, take Via Geralba. After you pass the Prà Solio mountain hut, where you can stop
for refreshment, a gravel road runs through the greenery to the Ponte di Geralba bridge. Once
you cross the bridge, keep right and go along a fl at stretch of road that soon leads to a second
little bridge. From here an up-and-down road will take you back to the Ponte di Geralba area.
After you return to the sports fi eld you can carry on to the little lake of Mosigo and take a quiet
rest amid the pleasant green landscape. The total climb is only about a hundred metres, and the
uphill stretches are short. This simple trip takes an hour at most, and is ideal for families.

On Sunday 12th July, cycling fans will have
the chance to forget exhaust pipes and noise
pollution for a few hours and enjoy a peaceful
trip through the splendid scenery of the four
Dolomite passes that surround the Sella massif:
Campolongo, Gardena, Pordoi and Sella. From
9 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., the passes will be closed
to motor traffic and reserved exclusively for
cyclists. The aim of this non-competitive event is
to offer tourists and locals, adults and children,
cyclists of all levels, a day of safe, healthy fun.
There are a large number of refreshment stops
along the route: restaurants, mountain huts
and refuges will be offering dishes specially
prepared for the event, and participants will
receive a nice little gift to take home with
them as a souvenir of the day. The event,
now in its 4th year, is organised by the tourist
associations of the valleys of Livinallongo,
Badia, Gardena and Fassa. On the website

TRE LAGHI E uNA PEdALATA
In Mtb da Lorenzago a Vallesella
Per gli ospiti della provincia di Belluno appassionati di mountain bike, consigliamo un percorso
semplice che da Lorenzago di Cadore conduce al lago di Vallesella, attraversando per
ben due volte il Lago del Centro Cadore e, eventualmente, anche quello del Molinà di Calalzo.
La partenza è a Lorenzago sulla statale del Passo Mauria, imbocchiamo sulla destra una
discesa di circa 3 km fi no a raggiungere la strada asfaltata nel bosco. Tra tornanti e volate
pianeggianti si giunge così al primo ponte sul Cridola. Da qui il percorso si fa più lieve e, tra
leggeri saliscendi, si giunge al secondo ponte, quello di Domegge. Ancora 1 km di strada
sterrata e pianeggiante, costeggiando il Lago del Centro Cadore, ed ecco la nostra meta:
il Ponte di Vallesella. Da qui è possibile rientrare per il medesimo percorso oppure, per i più
allenati, proseguire sino al lago del Molinà e Calalzo di Cadore.

For mountain bike fans visiting the province of Belluno, we recommend a simple route that
runs from Lorenzago di Cadore to Vallesella Lake, crossing the Centro Cadore Lake twice and
– for those who feel up to it - Molinà Lake at Calalzo. The route starts out from Lorenzago on the trunk road of the Mauria Pass; take right and
go down for about 3 km until you come to the tarmac road in the woods. A series of bends and stretches of fl at road will take you to the fi rst
bridge over the Cridola Torrent. From here the route gets easier, and moves gently up and down towards the second bridge, at Domegge. After
another kilometre along a fl at dirt road that runs around the Centro Cadore Lake, you will reach your destination: the Ponte di Vallesella bridge.
From here you can take the same route back to Lorenzago; the fi tter cyclists among you might like to continue on towards Molinà Lake and
Calalzo di Cadore.

Tradizionale “Città di Feltre” si svolgerà dal 25 al 28 giugno di
quest’anno nello scenario incomparabile dell’antica cittadella storica.
Sarà incentrata su un tema dominante, il binomio ferro-legno:
lavorazioni dal vivo e suggestione da autentiche botteghe d’un
tempo coinvolgeranno i visitatori rivelando abilità e spirito creativo
dei maestri artigiani all’insegna della qualità e dell’eccellenza. La
Mostra –che a buona ragione costituisce nel comparto specifico una
delle manifestazioni di maggiore attrazione del Nordest– garantisce
un cartellone molto nutrito dove trovano spazio il salone di bellezza

personale di pittura dell’autore del drappo 2009: il maestro Renato
Zanon, artista “feltrino”, le cui opere saranno esposte durante il
periodo del Palio. Questi e molti altri gli appuntamenti che sapranno

The 23rd edition of the City of Feltre Traditional Regional Arts
and Crafts Exhibition will be held from 25th to 28th June in the
superb setting of the historical town centre. The main theme of the
exhibition will be iron and wood, and visitors will be captivated by
the sublime skills and creative spirit of the master craftsmen they
will be able to watch live at work, emulating the activities carried
out in the workshops of their forebears. The Exhibition – which has
rightfully become one of the most prestigious and popular in the
north east of Italy – offers a packed programme of events ranging
from beauty and hairdressing, the craft of turning farm produce into
delicious food products, the chance to learn more about a range
of subjects and of course various types of cultural events and
entertainment.
Once again this year, the first weekend in August sees the
traditional Palio event, which gets under way on 29th July. On
Friday 31st the inhabitants of the four districts of the city dine
out together in the open air, and the high point of the event is the
1st and 2nd of August, when the city’s four “contrade” - Castello,
Duomo, Port’Oria and Santo Stefano – do battle in the traditional
“Palio” horse race. A series of collateral events are organised to
complement the competition, and this year’s calendar is busier

than ever. In the run-up to the Palio
the Palio Association and the four
districts will be involved in two events
in the Triveneto area: the Feste Vigiliane
in Trent on the evening of 24th June,
and the Palio di Castelfranco on the
afternoon of 28th June. Also planned is
an exhibition of paintings by the designer
of the 2009 flag, Renato Zanon, whose
works will be on display throughout the
Palio event. These are just some of the
numerous events that every year attract
thousands of visitors here to admire the
sights and the history of the town.

Il palazzo del Capitaniato a Forno
di Zoldo ospita il Museo del ferro
e del chiodo, fortemente voluto
dall’amministrazione comunale per
raccontare una parte rilevante della storia
di Zoldo incentrata sull’estrazione e la
lavorazione del ferro. Molti toponimi come
Forno, Fornesighe o Fusine testimoniano dei
riferimenti alle antiche attività metallurgicoestrattive.
Il museo è diviso in varie sezioni:
al piano terra vi è la sezione storica, dove
sono sintetizzate le tappe principali degli
avvenimenti che hanno caratterizzato le
attività minerarie e fabbrili locali. Al piano
superiore sono esposti gli arnesi utilizzati
dal fabbro e varie immagini attraverso
cui comprendere le fasi della lavorazione
del ferro partendo dall’attività estrattiva
nelle antiche miniere, passando poi per
la forgiatura nei forni fusori chiamati nel
dialetto locale “fusinele”. Una “fusinela”
è ancora visitabile in località Pralongo;
l’edificio restaurato di recente consente di
vedere le postazioni di lavoro dei “ciodarot”,
cioè gli addetti alla fabbricazione dei chiodi.

on display
Palazzo del Capitaniato in Forno di Zoldo
is home to the Iron and Nail Museum,
a project dear to the hearts of the local
councillors and created with the aim of
preserving and illustrating an important
part of Zoldo’s history, centred around iron
mining and processing. Many of the local
place names, such as Fornesighe, Fusine
or Forno itself (“forno” means kiln) are a
reference to the metallurgical and mining
activities carried out around here in the
past. The museum is divided up into various
sections: on the ground floor is the history
section, which illustrates the main events
that characterised local mining and smithery
activity. On the upper floor, visitors can see
the equipment used by blacksmiths and a
number of pictures that illustrate the various
stages of ironworking, from the extraction
of the metal from the mines, through to
forging in the furnaces, called “fusinele” in
the local dialect. One of these “fusinele” can
still be visited in Pralongo; the building has
recently been restored, and visitors can see
the workstations where the “ciodarot” made
the nails for which the area was famous.

Il vecchio mulino
di Arabba
Un capolavoro di meccanica povera
Nel centro di Arabba è presente un antico mulino ad acqua che
vale davvero la pena di visitare. Realizzato a fine ‘800, è ancora
perfetto nei suoi ingranaggi scolpiti nel legno e, fino ai primi anni
’60, è stato utilizzato dalla popolazione locale per la macinazione dei
cereali. Ricostruito subito dopo la Prima Guerra Mondiale, durante
la quale era stato gravemente danneggiato a causa di un incendio
che devastò gran parte del paese, fu soggetto ad ulteriore restauro
negli anni ’90. Il funzionamento di questi mulini era molto semplice:
utilizzavano la forza dell’acqua per muovere una ruota idraulica che,
fissata ad un asse, trasmetteva il moto a macine o seghe. Il mulino
di Arabba, in particolare, è formato da due macine che servivano
per la macinazione di orzo e segale. Considerato ancora oggi un
capolavoro di meccanica “povera”, il mulino è visitabile durante il
periodo estivo: tutti i giorni dalle ore 18.00 alle 19.00 viene infatti
messo in funzione e aperto ai visitatori che possono così ammirarne
gli interni e osservarne l’ingegnoso meccanismo.

The old mill in Arabba
A masterpiece of low-tech mechanics
In the centre of Arabba is an ancient water mill that is well worth a visit.
Built in the late 19th century, the mechanisms of the mill, hand-crafted
in wood, are still in perfect working order, and the local population used
it for milling cereals until the early 1960s. Rebuilt immediately after the
Second World War, after it had been severely damaged in the fire that
destroyed much of the village, it underwent further restoration work in
the 1990s. The system of the mill was a very simple one: it used the
force of the water to move a hydraulic wheel, fixed to a shaft, which in
turn set in motion the millstones or saws. The Arabba mill in particular is
formed by two millstones used to grind barley and rye. Regarded to this
day as a masterpiece of “low-tech” mechanics, the mill can be visited
during the summer season. Every day from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. it is set in
motion and opened to visitors, who can admire the inside of the mill
and the ingenious mechanism with which it is operated.

La sfilata dei carri allegorici a Mel, organizzata
dalla Pro Loco Zumellese, è ormai una tradizione.
Nata negli anni cinquanta come “Festa
dell’Uva”, all’epoca una passerella di carri allestiti
con i prodotti dei campi e delle vigne per
ringraziare per il raccolto ottenuto, nel tempo
si è trasformata in un vero e proprio spettacolo
a tema. Protagoniste sono le frazioni.
Domenica 13 settembre, nella splendida
cornice di Piazza Papa Luciani a Mel,
personaggi di fantasia o strettamente legati
all’attualità sfileranno, accompagnati da
musica, sui più disparati mezzi di trasporto,
allestiti e addobbati secondo il tema scelto,
offrendo al pubblico uno spettacolo allegorico
davvero indimenticabile.
The parade of allegorical floats in Mel,
organised by the Pro Loco Zumellese tourist
association, has now become a traditional
event. It began in the 1950 s as the “Grape
Festival”, and the floats that originally took
part displayed the fruits of the fields and the
vineyards, as a way of giving thanks for the
harvest. Over the years it has become an
authentic show on a particular theme, with
the surrounding villages decking out the
floats.
On Sunday 13th September, Piazza Papa
Luciani in Mel will be the splendid backdrop
to a succession of characters, invented or
closely linked to current events, who will
perform accompanied by music, on a range
of weird and wonderful vehicles, decked
out in line with the theme chosen, offering
spectators a truly unforgettable spectacle.

Arti e mestieri
della tradizione
in Borgata costa
Il paese di Valle di Cadore è attraversato da
un’antica via romana che salendo dal paese
di Perarolo un tempo congiungeva la pianura
alla zona montana. È proprio lungo questa
strada, chiamata Borgata di Costa e dove
il tempo sembra essersi fermato, che ogni
anno, nella terza settimana del mese di
luglio, si svolge la festa delle arti e mestieri
antichi: l’ambientazione è quella del Cadore
di fine ‘800 che viene ricostruito con
l’umile abbigliamento contadino del tempo.
In questo borgo, nei sentieri e nei fienili,
rivivono così i lavori tipici della montagna,
legati al bosco e al bestiame: boscaioli,
falegnami, intagliatori, scalpellini, fabbri e
pastori. Ed anche i lavori femminili: filatrici,
ricamatrici, donne dedite alla mungitura
delle mucche o alla preparazione del burro.
In questo scenario suggestivo rivive la
memoria antica riscoprendo vecchi mestieri
manuali, con il cuore e con l’esperienza che
ci portano a capire l’immenso valore della
tradizione, perché il passato è un patrimonio
da conservare, trasmettere e valorizzare.
La manifestazione si terrà nelle giornate del
17-18-19 luglio 2009.

Borgata costa
The village of Valle di Cadore is crossed
through by an ancient Roman road that
comes up from the village of Perarolo and
once linked the plain with the mountain
area. Along this road, called Borgata di
Costa, time seems to have stood still,
and it is here, in the third week of July, that
the ancient arts and trades festival takes
place. During the event, the atmosphere
of the late 19th century is recreated with
the typical period costumes of the humble
countryfolk of the Cadore, and the paths
and haysheds of the neighbourhood come
alive with typical mountain crafts and trades
linked to the woodlands and animals:
wood-cutting, carpentry, engraving, stonecutting,
smithery and animal husbandry.
Also on show are the traditional crafts and
activities carried out by the womenfolk:
spinning, embroidery, milking and butter
making. In this attractive setting, locals and
visitors can rediscover traditional crafts
and learn more about the traditions of the
area that form part of our heritage and
should therefore be safeguarded, handed
down from generation to generation and
enriched. The fair will be held on 17th-
18th-19th July 2009.

Il 13 e 14 giugno 2009 le strade e le
piazze della città di Belluno faranno da
sfondo alla 3 a edizione della manifestazione
“Dolomiti in festa: Gusto, Sapienze, arti
e tradizioni tra passato e futuro”. Il gelato
artigianale, realizzato con frutta e latte
bellunesi, verrà proposto nella cornice del
parco Città di Bologna accanto alle lavorazioni
del legno ed alla gastronomia feltrina.
Piazza dei Martiri ospiterà l’artigianato
ed i mestieri di un tempo, la gastronomia
del territorio bellunese e punti vendita dei
prodotti locali. Le due giornate saranno
caratterizzate da momenti di musica e
spettacolo tradizionale.

La passione della Mountain bike
Ad Alleghe Asterix Bike e Dolomitiko Sport, dopo i successi della scorsa stagione
estiva, propongono, nei mesi di luglio e agosto, un corso di mountain
bike rivolto a bambini e ragazzi. I partecipanti saranno divisi in gruppi secondo
il proprio livello di preparazione e istruttori qualificati insegneranno loro le
principali tecniche per affrontare salite, discese e terreni sconnessi. Le lezioni
si terranno settimanalmente, di pomeriggio, e spazieranno nel Comprensorio
Civetta e nei comuni limitrofi, utilizzando anche gli impianti di risalita.
Per chi ha a disposizione solo pochi giorni, Asterix Bike propone escursioni
accompagnate in mountain bike per seguire i bambini a tutti i livelli: dai
principianti fino ai biker più scatenati! Sei venuto in vacanza ad Alleghe senza
la bici? Nessun problema, il tuo istruttore provvederà a procurarti la bicicletta
più adatta alle tue capacità e relativo caschetto di sicurezza.

The thrill of the mountain bike
Following on from the success obtained last summer, Asterix Bike and
Dolomitiko Sport in Alleghe will be organising a mountain bike course for
children and teenagers in the months of July and August. Participants will be
divided up into two groups, depending on their skills, and qualified instructors
will teach them the main techniques for tackling climbs, descents and rugged
terrain. The lessons will be held weekly, in the afternoon, and will take place in
the Civetta ski area and the municipalities that border on it, making use also
of the ski lifts.
For those who have only a few days available, Asterix Bike offers guided
mountain bike trips for children at all levels, from beginners to the most
daring of riders! And if you’ve come on holiday to Alleghe without your bike,
don’t worry – your instructor will get you the bike best suited to your abilities,
and of course a safety helmet.

CHILDREN AND TEENS
A CACCIA DELLA TRACCIA
L’importante progetto didattico, nato più di dieci anni fa attraverso un’iniziativa di alcuni volontari della Riserva Alpina di Caccia, offre ai bambini e ai
ragazzi, oltre a tutti coloro che vogliono arricchire le proprie nozioni sulla fauna selvatica, un ampio percorso per il riconoscimento e l’osservazione
delle tracce degli animali del bosco, attraverso una ricca esposizione di nidi, pelli, denti, mandibole, penne… Tutto questo materiale, che è stato
pazientemente catalogato, illustrato ed è frutto di decenni di appassionate ricerche, sarà esposto nella sala mostre di Fusine. Si tratta di una delle
tante attività che sono in programma, da sabato 27 giugno a sabato 29 agosto, per intrattenere bambini e famiglie. La settimana verde offre
letture animate, fattoria didattica, nutella party, corso di pittura, passeggiata con Biancaneve e tanto altro per rendere la vacanza più avventurosa,
interessante e a diretto contatto con la natura zoldana!

IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF OUR FAUNA
It’s now more than ten years since a group of volunteers from the Alpine Hunting Reserve set up an
important educational project aimed principally at children and young people, but open to anyone
interested in learning more about wild animals. The project teaches participants how to recognise
and observe the passage of animals and birds through the woods, through a wealth of material
collected there: nests, skin, teeth, jawbones, feathers… All this material, painstakingly catalogued
and illustrated throughout decades of careful research, will be on display in the exhibition hall in
Fusine, as part of the wide range of activities laid on from Saturday 27th June to Saturday
29th August for the entertainment of children and their families. During this Green Week, visitors
will be able to enjoy dramatised book readings, visit petting farms, have fun with a nutella party,
take a painting course or a walk with Snow White… all this and much more, guaranteed to make
your holiday amid the natural landscape of the Zoldo area a truly fascinating adventure!

“Camminarte è una piccola
galleria d’arte in alta quota,
raccolta in undici tappe. È un
percorso di disegni che raccontano
il viaggio di crescita di un
bimbo magico, Pino, intorno al
Monte Pelmo. Camminarte è un
gioco-fi aba regalato soprattutto
ai bambini, al loro primo approccio
all’andar per monti”.
Si tratta di un evento volto a
valorizzare i Rifugi attraverso
un originale mostra/percorso,
realizzato dall’artista Luisa Rota
Sperti, in collaborazione con la
Pro Loco Val Fiorentina di Selva di
Cadore. È un percorso di disegni
ricchissimi di particolari che sfuggono a chi osserva in modo frettoloso,
accompagnati da una commovente fi aba che racconta con
straordinaria fantasia la storia di un bambino e del suo viaggio di
crescita. I personaggi sono gli abitanti della montagna e del bosco:
camosci, scoiattoli, marmotte, martore, pipistrelli, farfalle e lo scenario
è il maestoso ed imponente Monte Pelmo, fonte inesauribile
d’ispirazione. Passeggiando da rifugio a rifugio, è possibile quindi,
oltre che ammirare la spettacolarità dei panorami e della natura,
avvicinare grandi e soprattutto piccini all’amore e al rispetto per la
montagna e ad osservare con attenzione tutto ciò che ci circonda.

“Camminarte is a small, high-altitude art gallery made up of eleven
stages. It is an itinerary comprising drawings that illustrate the
journey around the Pelmo, and through life, of a magical child, Pino.
Camminarte is a fairytale, an entertaining way aimed at accompanying
children in particular along their first trips in the mountains”.
Aimed at making the most of what the mountain refuges have to
offer, this original exhibition/itinerary is the creation of the artist Luisa
Rota Sperti, in collaboration with the Pro Loco Val Fiorentina tourist
association of Selva di Cadore. It is a route made up of drawings that
present a wealth of detail to the careful observer, accompanied along
the way by a moving, extraordinarily imaginative tale that tells the story
of a child and his journey through life. The characters in the story are
the inhabitants of the mountains and woodlands - chamois, squirrels,
marmots, martens, bats, butterflies- and the setting is the magnificent,
striking Monte Pelmo, a never-ending source of inspiration. As you
walk from one refuge to another, admiring the spectacular landscape
and nature, adults and in particular children can form an idea of what it
means to love and respect the mountains, learning to carefully observe
everything around them.

delle prime due edizioni, la provincia di Belluno ripropone per
l’estate 2009 ricca di novità: aumentano i rifugi aderenti all’iniziativa,
nuovi itinerari ed un premio fedeltà, naturalmente gastronomico,
per gli ospiti delle Dolomiti Bellunesi che pranzano o pernottano in
questi splendidi rifugi. I gestori dei rifugi alpini del territorio bellunese
hanno sottoscritto “La Carta di Assicurazione della Qualità”,
attraverso la quale garantiscono ai propri ospiti la presenza nel
menù di piatti tipici della cucina bellunese. Primo tra tutti il pastin,
pietanza tipica della sola provincia di Belluno, ovvero l’impasto della
salsiccia non insaccato ed arricchito di spezie ed aromi, generalmente
cotto, a forma di polpetta schiacciata, in padella o sulla
griglia. Ed ancora: la polenta di mais sponcio, i fagioli di Lamon,
l’orzo bellunese, le patate di Cesiomaggiore, i numerosi e gustosissimi
formaggi di malga e molti prodotti dell’agricoltura di montagna.
Questi ingredienti genuini sono utilizzati nella preparazione delle
pietanze rispettando le tradizioni della cucina di montagna, ed ogni
rifugio ne propone una propria particolare variante. Ogni pietanza è
preparata secondo la ricetta tradizionale, con ingredienti, e metodi
di lavorazione, rigorosamente controllati. I gestori dei rifugi aderenti
utilizzano, nella preparazione di questi piatti, prodotti bellunesi,
nel rispetto della stagionalità e della più
antica tradizione gastronomica
di montagna. Accanto alle
proposte gastronomiche la
guida delle Alte Vie del Gusto
propone, per ciascun rifugio,
uno o più itinerari escursionistici
alla portata di tutti,
alla scoperta dei panorami
dolomitici più belli. La guida di
Alte Vie del Gusto si presenta
quest’anno con un’edizione a valenza
biennale: nuove proposte
di passeggiate semplici, suggerite
dai gestori, e nuovi itinerari,
da percorrere in più giornate,
che collegano tra loro più rifugi
aderenti all’iniziativa. Pranzando o
pernottando in più strutture il turista
proveniente da fuori provincia
potrà inoltre raccogliere una serie
di timbri per ricevere un gustoso
premio fedeltà.

A chance for visitors to get to know and love the Belluno Dolomites
through their traditional mountain fare, combining good food with
thrilling trips amid the Dolomite peaks: this is the aim of the “Alte Vie
del Gusto”. Following the success of the fi rst two editions, the culinary
event is back once more for summer 2009, bigger and better than
ever, with more refuges joining the scheme, new itineraries and a
special, tasty reward for visitors to the Belluno Dolomites who have
lunch or stay overnight in the splendid refuges along the routes. The
managers of the alpine refuges in the Belluno area have signed the
“Quality Assurance Charter”, which guarantees guests the presence
on their menus of typical local dishes. The most important of these
is “pastin”, a speciality unique to the province of Belluno: a kind of
sausage meat without the skin, enriched with herbs and spices,
generally shaped into a sort of flattened ball and fried in the pan or
grilled. And then there is polenta made with the local “sponcio” variety
of maize flour, Lamon beans, Belluno barley, Cesiomaggiore potatoes,
a huge range of delicious mountain dairy cheeses and farm produce
grown in the mountains. These genuine ingredients are used to prepare
dishes perfectly in line with the fi nest mountain cooking traditions,
and each refuge has its own particular specialities to offer. Every dish
is made according to the traditional recipe, using strictly controlled
seasonal ingredients from the surrounding area and traditional
mountain cooking methods. Alongside the culinary specialities, each
refuge that features in the “Alte Vie del Gusto” guide offers one or
more walking trips, suitable for all, through the fi nest scenery in the
Dolomites. This year’s edition of the guide is valid for two years, and
presents a number of new ideas for simple walks, suggested by the
refuge managers, and new itineraries, which can be tackled over one
or more days, linking two or more refuges belonging to the scheme.
Tourists from outside the province who have lunch or stay overnight in
a number of different refuges can also collect a series of stamps that
will entitle them to a special reward for their custom.

I PROTAGONISTI SONO I RIFUGI / JUST ASK AT THE REFUGE
È questa la terza edizione del progetto Alte
Vie del Gusto. I protagonisti sono i rifugi alpini
ed i loro gestori. Sono loro che accolgono
escursionisti, gitanti ed amanti della montagna
in generale con un saluto, un sorriso e sovente
un piatto tipico. Sono loro che permettono
di percorrere i sentieri di montagna garantendo
la sicurezza di un ricovero o la pianificazione
di itinerari di più giorni. Alte vie del gusto
ne propone alcuni, di un giorno o in più tappe
assumendo i rifugi aderenti come base di
partenza o arrivo. Da quelli più semplici ad
altri che necessitano di una preparazione
alpinistica. Le proposte contenute nell’opuscolo
suggeriscono percorsi alternativi alle
grandi vie di percorrenza montana, itinerari
di grande fascino, con la promessa che una
volta giunti al rifugio l’accoglienza e le pietanze
consigliate saranno il meritato premio per
l’escursionista.

The “Alte Vie del Gusto” project is now in its
third year, and the real stars of the scheme
are the alpine refuges and the people who
run them. They are the ones who welcome
hikers, day trippers and fans of the mountains
in general, offering a handshake, a smile, and
often some traditional fare. It is they who help
visitors to take a walk along the mountain
paths, guaranteeing the safety of a shelter or
helping them to plan trips over two or more
days. The “Alte Vie del Gusto” guide offers a
few suggestions for trips, taking the refuges
belonging to the scheme as the departure or
arrival point. From simpler walks to trips that
require some climbing ability, the ideas in the
guide suggest a number of alternatives to the
most common, busiest mountain routes, and
these attractive itineraries include the promise
of a warm welcome and a delicious meal to
reward your efforts once you reach the refuge.

Dolomiti d’autunno
Fervono i preparativi per la quarta edizione della rassegna di eventi
autunnali.
Agricoltori ed organizzatori sono all’opera per fare delle feste
autunnali un momento privilegiato di visibilità per i prodotti tipici
dell’agricoltura di montagna. Sono loro i veri protagonisti delle feste
che compongono il circuito; dalla Patata di Cesiomaggiore al Pastin
bellunese, un fitto calendario da fine agosto a fine novembre
racconta di donne e uomini, di tradizioni gastronomiche tipiche, vita
di montagna e rispetto per la natura.
La rassegna, unendo in un unico contenitore le manifestazioni dei
prodotti tipici bellunesi, raccoglie ed esalta il lavoro coltivato per
anni dalle realtà locali: esse hanno creato l’opportunità di riscoprire
il connubio agricoltura di montagna e buona tavola.
Ogni evento è arricchito da un’offerta turistica densa di contenuti
e fa sì che il prodotto veicoli un territorio, unico per l’ambiente che
offre al visitatore. Visite guidate ai luoghi di coltivazione, dimostrazioni
di lavorazioni tipiche dei prodotti, degustazioni guidate,
escursioni culturali negli antichi borghi, momenti conviviali animati,
contribuiscono a realizzare un prodotto turistico fruibile e completo.
Partecipare alle iniziative proposte, farsi cogliere dalla magia di
questi luoghi e ammaliare dal fascino della tradizione consentirà
di serbare dentro di noi un ricordo indelebile denso di emozioni di
vita montana.
Grazie a produzioni locali, curate con la massima attenzione e

Cesiomaggiore potato to Belluno’s traditional “pastin”, a packed
programme of events from the end of August to the end of
November will tell the story of the local men and women, our
typical gastronomic traditions, life in the mountains and respect
for nature.
The series brings together a range of events featuring typical
produce of the province of Belluno, and is a celebration of the
painstaking work carried out over the years by local farms
that have created the opportunity to rediscover the connection
between mountain agriculture and fine cooking. Each event in the
series is enhanced by a number of collateral events in the field
of tourism, thus making them a vehicle to promote an area that
offers visitors a truly unique environment: guided visits to the
places the produce is grown, demonstrations of typical farming
and processing techniques, guided tasting sessions, cultural trips
through ancient neighbourhoods, lively, convivial encounters,
all of which help to create a fully rounded, accessible package
for visitors. Why not take part in these events, let yourself get
carried away with the magic of the surroundings and the allure
of tradition? You will be sure to come away with unforgettable,
moving memories of your experience of mountain life.
Preparations are under way for the fourth edition of the exciting
series of autumn events.

A LOOK FORWARD TO THE AUTUMN
Feste, smonticazioni,
incontri e sport
Un autunno ricco di feste e incontri scanditi dalla tradizione: le feste
della smonticazione, il rientro a valle delle mandrie dall’alpeggio
estivo, si rinnovano in molte località tra cui Pedavena, San Gregorio
nelle Alpi e nella Valle del Biois.
Per chi desidera invece ritrovare un dialogo con la natura, ripercorrendo
l’esperienza dei pellegrinaggi secolari si segnalano il tradizionale
cammino di preghiera da Sappada a Santa Maria Luggau sabato 19
e domenica 20 settembre e la suggestiva Via Crucis che da Canale
d’Agordo per la via Cavallera porta a Caviola venerdì 25 settembre.
Tutti i giorni in agosto e tutte le domeniche di settembre e ottobre
è possibile accedere alla diga del Vajont con visite guidate. Per
salire più in alto sono invece indicate le iniziative del rifugio Scarpa
(Voltago Agordino) con incontri, conferenze ed escursioni su “Cielo
stellato e geologia delle Dolomiti” il 26 e 27 settembre.
Molti sono gli eventi per gli sportivi: dal podismo alla bicicletta,
dall’orienteering alla mtb.

Festivals, encounters, sports
and the return of the herds
Autumn in the Belluno area offers a host of traditional festivals, such
as those held to mark the smonticazione, the return of the herds
down from the mountain pastures where they spend the summer,
which visitors can enjoy in many places in the province, such as
Pedavena, San Gregorio nelle Alpi and the Biois Valley.
For those who prefer to get back in tune with nature and emulate
the experience of the faithful down through the centuries, there is
the traditional pilgrimage from Sappada to Santa Maria Luggau,
which takes place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September,
and the evocative Via Crucis, or Way of the Cross, that goes along
the Via Cavallera from Canale d’Agordo to Caviola on Friday 25th
September.
Every day in August and every Sunday in September, guided visits
are available along the Vajont dam. For those who fancy a trip up
into the mountains, particularly interesting are the events organised
by the Scarpa Refuge in Voltago Agordino, with encounters,
conferences and trips on the subject of “The Starry Sky and
Geology of the Dolomites” on 26th and 27th September.
Sports fans will also find plenty to keep them happy, from running to
cycling and from orienteering to mountain bike trips.
