Molti avranno faticato a fare qso con Vasek
OX4OK, che aveva perso il preamplificatore e
così aveva figura di rumore 3 dB. Però bisogna
tener conto delle sue condizioni ambientali…
Scelta date contest EME
I fattori di cui si deve tener conto sono:
- periodo tradizionale
- declinazione luna
- degradazione (rumore cosmico e distanza luna)
- non coincidenza con eventi importanti
Purtroppo non è praticamente possibile la data perfetta, che
soddisfi tutti i quattro criteri. Come si stanno regolando i tre
attuali promotori?
ARRL – per il 2011 hanno privilegiato la bassissima degradazione,
scegliendo le date nei tradizionali mesi di settembre (tra
l’altro sovrapponendosi sull’ARI CW/SSB), ottobre e novembre.
Apriti cielo, tanti americani hanno protestato perché in quelle
date la declinazione non è ai massimi, ma solo moderatamente
positiva. Il grosso del mondo EME si trova sopra l’equatore, e
le alte declinazioni danno una finestra più lunga.
Quindi alte declinazioni privilegiano i “lunatici” del nord e
penalizzano quelli del sud. Disuguaglianza poco amichevole,
ma che ha una lunga tradizione in questo senso.
Per il 2012, da quanto si è potuto capire da un sondaggio (che
ha coinvolto anche me) sembra si stia tornando a date che privilegiano
l’alta declinazione, accettando degradazioni non ai
minimi (personalmente ho solo cercato di salvare da sovrapposizioni
la data dell’ARI CW/SSB del 2012).
E siccome l’ARRL ha le categorie Mixed (CW+Digi) e CW,
specialmente il CW è favorito dalla bassa degradazione che
andrebbe privilegiata sulla declinazione come quest’anno.
Dubus – Separa il contest CW dal digitale. Per favorire i microondisti
(che usano la stessa parabola per più bande, cambiando
l’illuminatore) il contest CW occupa ben 5 weekend.
Anche nel 2011 hanno rigorosamente seguito la regola della
declinazione più alta possibile, senza badare alla degradazione.
Sgradevole sorpresa per il Digitale, per stare con declinazione
alta nel 2011 hanno scelto il periodo di luna nuova, che notoriamente
ha degradazione peggiorata dal rumore solare (in più una
tempesta solare ha molto peggiorato le cose).

had a noise figure of 3 dB. But allowance must
be made to his ambient conditions….
Choice of EME contest dates
These factors must be considered:
- traditional period
- moon declination
- degradation (cosmic noise and moon distance)
- no other important event
Satisfying all four factors is obviously impossible.
What do the present three organizers?
ARRL – for 2011 they privileged very low degradation, choosing
minimum degr. dates in September (disregarding ARI CW/
SSB), October and November.
God help them! They got a lot of protests because in those dates
the declination is not very high, just moderately positive.
The majority of the EME world is above the equator, and high
declination give longer lunar windows. So high declination
privileges northern emers and penalize southern ones.
Not very friendly, but there is a long tradition of this choice.
For 2012, from what I could understand from a sounding of
several emers (including me), the majority is favouring the
return to high declination dates, accepting non optimum degradations
(personally I just tried to save the date of the ARI CW/
SSB for 2012).
Since ARRL has just two categories, Mixed (CW+Digi) and
CW, both with CW for which low degradation is important, the
more logical choice should have been the one of this year, minimum
degradation.
Dubus – Has separate contests for CW and Digital.
In order to favour microwavers (who use the same dish for
many bands, changing the feed), the CW contest is spread over
5 weekends!
As usual, also in 2011 they chose maximum declination dates,
without considering degradation. The bad surprise was for Digital,
because, in order to have maximum declination, they chose
the date of New Moon, which has high Solar noise (and this
year there was also a Solar Storm which made things worse).
