RIASSUNTO. Scopo dello stu<strong>di</strong>o è <strong>di</strong> valutare se l’esposizione professionale<br />

al <strong>la</strong>voro notturno possa causare alterazioni del cortisolo p<strong>la</strong>smatico.<br />

L’interesse <strong>per</strong> questo argomento nasce <strong>da</strong>ll’intensificarsi degli stu<strong>di</strong><br />

presenti in letteratura che riferiscono <strong>un</strong>’alterazione nel<strong>la</strong> sintesi e nel ri<strong>la</strong>scio<br />

<strong>di</strong> cortisolo in <strong>la</strong>voratori esposti al <strong>la</strong>voro notturno.<br />

La popo<strong>la</strong>zione stu<strong>di</strong>ata comprende <strong>la</strong>voratori con mansione <strong>di</strong> addetto<br />

al servizio <strong>di</strong> vigi<strong>la</strong>nza notturna e addetto al servizio <strong>di</strong> monitoraggio<br />

<strong>dei</strong> sistemi <strong>di</strong> al<strong>la</strong>rme in vari musei paragonati ad <strong>un</strong> gruppo <strong>di</strong> controllo<br />

che non esegue <strong>la</strong>voro a turni e/o notturno.<br />

Esposti e controlli sono stati paragonati <strong>per</strong> età anagrafica, anzianità<br />

<strong>la</strong>vorativa, abitu<strong>di</strong>ne al fumo <strong>di</strong> sigaretta (n. <strong>di</strong> sigarette/<strong>di</strong>e) e consumo<br />

abituale <strong>di</strong> bevande alcoliche (n. bicchieri <strong>di</strong> vino/birra al <strong>di</strong>e).<br />

Sono state valutate le concentrazioni p<strong>la</strong>smatiche <strong>di</strong> cortisolo su 50<br />

esposti al <strong>la</strong>voro notturno, tutti <strong>di</strong> sesso maschile <strong>di</strong> cui 30 fumatori e 20<br />

non fumatori; e su 50 controlli <strong>di</strong> cui 30 fumatori e 20 non fumatori.<br />

Il prelievo <strong>di</strong> sangue venoso sul quale è stato dosato il cortisolo è stato<br />

eseguito alle 8:00 <strong>per</strong> tutti i soggetti inclusi nello stu<strong>di</strong>o.<br />

Gli esposti e i controlli hanno <strong>la</strong>vorato con turno <strong>di</strong> mattina il giorno<br />

precedente al prelievo.<br />

Nei sorveglianti esposti fumatori e non fumatori le concentrazioni<br />

p<strong>la</strong>smatiche <strong>di</strong> cortisolo sono risultate significativamente aumentate rispetto<br />

ai non esposti.<br />

I risultati fanno ipotizzare che il <strong>la</strong>voro notturno e gli stressor psicosociali<br />

ad esso corre<strong>la</strong>ti possano determinare <strong>un</strong> aumento del cortisolo<br />

p<strong>la</strong>smatico. Il cortisolo p<strong>la</strong>smatico potrebbe essere utilizzato come in<strong>di</strong>catore<br />

precoce <strong>di</strong> effetto nei <strong>la</strong>voratori notturni<br />

NIGHT WORKERS AND PLASMATIC CORTISOL<br />

ABSTRACT. The aim of the study is to evaluate whether<br />

occupational exposure to night work could cause alterations in the levels<br />

of p<strong>la</strong>smatic cortisol.<br />

The interest toward this argument arises form several stu<strong>di</strong>es in<br />

scientific literature referring the presence of an alteration in the synthesis<br />

and release of cortisol in workers exposed to night work.<br />

We stu<strong>di</strong>ed a popu<strong>la</strong>tion of workers employed in night security service<br />

and monitoring service of a<strong>la</strong>rm systems in <strong>di</strong>fferent museums compared<br />

to a control group not <strong>per</strong>forming shift-work and/or night work.<br />

The exposed and control subjects were compared by age, length of<br />

service, smoking habit (n. cigarettes <strong>per</strong> <strong>da</strong>y), habitual consumption of<br />

alcoholic drinks (n. g<strong>la</strong>ss of wine/beer <strong>per</strong> <strong>da</strong>y).<br />

We evaluated the levels of p<strong>la</strong>smatic cortisol on 50 workers exposed<br />

to night work, all males of whom 30 smokers and 20 non-smokers and on<br />

50 controls of whom 30 smokers and 20 non-smokers.
