12. Causes of faults and their remedy<br />

Fault<br />

Engine does not start<br />

Engine performance decreases<br />

Engine runs irregulary<br />

Mower will not move forward<br />

Drive speed cannot be regulated<br />

Strong vibrations<br />

Possible cause<br />

– Switch handle not pressed<br />

down.<br />

– No petrol.<br />

– Spark plug connector loose.<br />

– Spark plug defective or dirty or<br />

electrode burnt out.<br />

– Engine getting too much petrol<br />

(spark plug wet).<br />

– Air filter dirty.<br />

– Ignition defective.<br />

– Battery is not charged.<br />

– Connection cable between<br />

ignition key, battery and engine<br />

loose or without contact.<br />

– Loose cable lug at ignition<br />

lock.<br />

– Air filter dirty.<br />

– Spark plug foul.<br />

– Petrol tank dirty.<br />

– Carburettor blocked.<br />

– Cooling air paths blocked.<br />

– Carburettor.<br />

– Ignition system.<br />

– Governor rods.<br />

– Drive V-belt loose or torn.<br />

– Bowden cable torn or<br />

disconnected.<br />

– Excessive grass residue under<br />

the belt cover<br />

– Engine fixing loose.<br />

– Blade loose.<br />

– Blade coupling run in<br />

eccentrically.<br />

– Blade not balanced during<br />

sharpening.<br />

Remedy<br />

– Press switch handle to upper<br />

part of handlebar.<br />

– Re-fuel.<br />

– Press on spark plug connector.<br />

– Replace or clean spark plug,<br />

set electrode distance to<br />

0.75 mm and replace spark<br />

plug is necessary.<br />

– Have it checked by your JOHN<br />

DEERE dealer.<br />

– Clean or replace air filter insert.<br />

– Have it checked by your JOHN<br />

DEERE dealer.<br />

– Charge the battery.<br />

– Connect or make sure battery<br />

plug is connected to wiring<br />

harness.<br />
