GB Read this manual carefully to learn how to operate and service your machine correctly. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or equipment damage. This manual should be considered a permanent part of your machine and should remain with the machine when you sell it. Richt-hand and left-hand sides are determined by facing the direction the implement will travel when going forward. Setting fuel delivery beyond published factory specifications or otherwise overpowering will result in loss of warranty protection for this machine. The lawn mower is designed solely for use in customary lawn mowing (“Intended use“). Use in any other way is considered as contrary to the intended use. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage or injury resulting from this misuse, and these risks must be borne solely by the user. Compliance with and strict adherence to the conditions of operation, service and repair as specified by the manufacturer also constitute essential elements for the intended use. This lawn mower should be operated, serviced and repaired only by persons familiar with all its particular characteristics and acquainted with the relevant safety rules (accident prevention). The medicine must be observed at all times. Any arbitrary modifications carried out on this lawn mower will relieve the manufacturer of all liability for any resulting damage or injury. General Safety Guidelines for the hand held rotary lawnmower (petrol) – For your own safety and in order to ensure the functioning of the lawnmower, please read these instructions carefully. – Please remember, that the operator of the machine or the person using the machine is not only responsible for endangering other people or their property, but is also responsible for accidents which occur whilst using the machine. – This instruction manual is part of the delivery quantity of the lawnmower and must be provided to the purchaser of the lawnmover in the event of resale. – Never allow children or persons under the age of 16 or orther persons who are not familiar with the instructions on how to operate the machine, to use the machine. Please note, that local regulations can determine the minimum age of the person allowed to use the machine. – Please explain the possible dangers and how to prevent accidents to every person who is supposed to work with this machine. – Please store your lawnmower in safe place. Lawnmowers which are not being used, should be stored in a dry, locked room which is inaccessible to children. – The lawnmower is only designed for the care of grassy areas and lawns. If they are being used in public areas, parks, sports grounds, roads and in agricultural and forest areas, special care must be taken. – The machine must not be used in connection with any accessories which have not been approved by JOHN DEERE, because in doing so, the handover permit and any guarantees then become null and void. – The lawnmower may not be used to trim bushes, hedges and shrubs, it may not be used to cut climbing plants or plants growing on roofs and on balconies, to vacuum or clear pavements. – You must never mow if there are persons, especially children or animals, nearby. Handling Preparatory measures – Whilst mowing, you must always wear proper shoes and long trousers. Do not use the lawnmower if you are barefoot or wearing sandals. – Always check the area in which you intend to use the lawnmower completely for stones, sticks, wires and other foreign bodies before and whilst you are mowing it. W WARNING – Petrol is extremely flammable. – Only store the petrol in the containers designed for this purpose. GB – Only fill the tank in the open and when the engine is cold. Smoking and naked flames are nor allowed whilst tanking. – The petrol must be filled into the tank before the engine is started. Whilst the engine is running or if the machine is hot, the lid of the petrol tank must not be opened, nor may the tank be filled whith more petrol. – If petrol has overflowed, you must not attempt to start the motor. Instead, the lawnmower must be removed from the area contaminated with petrol, and the petrol which has overflowed must be wiped off the engine. Any attempt to start the engine must be avoided until the petrol fumes have evaporated. – For safety reasons, the petrol tank on the lawnmower and the petrol container must be closed again carefully. – If any damage has occurred, the petrol tank, lid of the petrol tank and the silencer must be exchanged. – Before you use the lawnmower, a visual check must always be carried out to check whether cutting blades, attachment screws and the entire cutting unit is worn down or damaged. In order to avoid a balance error, worn or damaged blades and attachments screws must be exchanged. – The internal combustion engine must never be running in enclosed rooms in which dangerous exhaust fumes can build up, danger of poisoning. – People with heart pace makers must not touch any parts of the engine which might be live. – The engine/exhaust gets very hot: Do not touch!! – Please only use the type of fuel stated in the operating instructions. – The engine brake is required by law for safety technical reasons. – Only mow during daylight or if the lighting is good. – Always make sure that you are standing securely whilst mowing slopes. – Always push the machine at walking pace. – Always mow at right angles to the slope, never mow straight up or down. – Please be especially careful when you change direction when mowing on a slope. – Do not mow excessively steep slopes. – Please be especially careful when you are turning the lawnmower or you are pulling it towards yourself. – If you walk backwards whilst mowing, you can easily stumble. Hence avoid waling backwards. – Avoid unnatural body positions. Ensure that you are standing securely and keep your balance at all times. 23
