26. VETRINA SUL PASSATO
Il meglio delle cose del passato hanno sempre
trovato mercato, almeno da quando i Romani
collezionavano antichità egizie, greche ed
etrusche.
Antichità francesi e italiane hanno aggiunto
prestigio alle case dei benestanti dall’epoca
della loro creazione fino al presente.
Come una scenografia prima che cominci la
commedia, la vetrina a Milano espone due
sedie – Luigi XVI, Luigi XVIII? – un comodino,
candelabri d’argento, porcellane ed un paravento
a tre ante.
Sicuramente dopo lo scatto tutti questi oggetti
d’epoca hanno trovato una giusta collocazione
in interni ben arredati.

WINDOW ON THE PAST
The best of the bygones have always had a
market, at least since the Romans collected
Egyptian, Greek and Etruscan antiquities.
French and Italian antiques have added prestige
to the houses of the well-to-do from the time of
their creation to the present.
Like a stage set before the action begins, the show
window in Milan displays a pair of chairs –
Louis XVI, Louis XVIII? – a cabinet, silver
candlesticks, porcelains and a three-wing screen.
All of these antiques in the decades since the
photo was taken have undoubtedly found their
place in well appointed interiors.
