Professore di Letteratura Inglese e Studi Italiani,
Mario Praz ha acquisito fama mondiale
come storico del gusto.
Il suo Romantic Agony e La filosofia dell’arredamento,
tra altri libri, sono testimonianze durature
e altamente influenti del suo molto esteso
interesse nel bello, nel sublime e nel curioso.
Qui dà il benvenuto alla Principessa Margaret
d’Inghilterra e ad alcuni amici nella sua casa,
in realtà un museo privato, in Palazzo Primoli a
Roma.
La sua collezione di più di un migliaio di pitture,
sculture e memorabilia d’età neoclassica,
acquistata dalla Galleria Nazionale d’Arte
Moderna nel 1986, è rimasta in situ dopo la
sua morte, ed ora è aperta al pubblico, sotto gli
auspici della Galleria.

a historian of taste.
His Romantic Agony and Illustrated History of
Interior Decoration, among other books, are
lasting, highly influential testimony to his wideranging
interest in the beautiful, the sublime and
the curious.
Here he is welcoming Princess Margaret and
party to his home, in effect a private museum, in
the Palazzo Primoli, Rome.
His collection of some thousand neoclassical
paintings, sculptures and memorabilia, acquired
by the National Gallery of Modern Art, in 1986,
remained in situ after his death and is now, under
the auspices of the Gallery, open to the public.
