Nella sua Villa Reale di Marlia, Anna Laetitia
Pecci Blunt dedicava molto del suo tempo a
studiare la storia della sua proprietà e le chiese
romaniche toscane. Quando dava delle feste
usava la sua fervida immaginazione per pensare
a come intrattenere i suoi ospiti.
Nel 1960 durante i Giochi Olimpici di Roma
organizzò, come parodia, la quarantina di
ospiti in squadre per competere nelle “Olimpiadi
di Marlia”.
La squadra cubana era capeggiata dalla Baronessa
La Moffa, la vedova americana di un
nobile siciliano, con tanto di barba finta e
mitraglietta di plastica che sparava scintille.
La vediamo con un membro della sua squadra
che la deluse. “Viaggio sempre con una scatola
di barbe finte”, si lamentò. “Per quest’occasione
ho prestato una delle mie migliori barbe
finte a Tom Parr e lui l’ha persa.”

At her Villa Reale di Marlia, Anna Laetitia Pecci
Blunt spent much of her time studying the history
of the estate and the Romanesque churches of
Tuscany. When she had house guests staying she
used her lively imagination to think up ways of
entertaining them.
In 1960 during the Olympic Games in Rome she
organized, in parody, her forty-odd guests in
teams to compete in the “Marlia Olympics”.
The Cuban team was headed by the Baroness
LaMoffa, the American widow of a Sicilian
nobleman, who put on a beard and carried a
plastic machinegun that shot sparks.
She is seen with a team member who let her
down: “I always travel with a beard box”, she
said. “For this occasion I lent one of my best
beards to Tom Parr, and now he has gone and
lost it.”
