The chestnut tree:
a cultural-gastronomic ambassador
In Tuscany it’s the olive tree, on Lake Garda it’s
the cypress, but for the rural area between the Adige
and Isarco rivers, it’s the chestnut tree that acts as
a cultural symbol of the area. The chestnut tree has
this fame since it is a common feature of the area and
it is a living symbol of the fine natural environment
that characterises the area. In the areas around Lana,
Foiana/Völlan, Tesimo/Tisens, Narano/Naraun, Prissiano/Prissian
and Grissiano/Grissian chestnut trees
have had, and still have today, a deep cultural significance.
For this reason, in 1999, it was decided to
establish a “chestnut festival”, known as Keschtnriggl,
which acted as an occasion for chestnut fans and
connoisseurs to come together and celebrate the
chestnut. At Tesimo in 2008 a chestnut walk was also
created along a two kilometre trail.
