II. RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE
1. Tell al-Fukhar. The First Season 1990 (Pl. 61)
A Scandinavian archaeological expedition at Tell el-Fukhar, situated about 10
kms northeast of Irbid, was in the field between May 7-31,1990. Directors of
the excavation were Professor Dr Magnus Ottosson of the University of
Uppsala and Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Copenhagen, Dr John
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 501
Strange. Dr Patrick McGovern of the University of Pennsylvania served as
pottery specialist.
Tell el-Fukhar is situated just east of a sharp bend inWadi esh-Shellale,
2387/2219. The site looks like a narrow peninsula projecting into the wadi thus
giving it a meandering pace. The acropolis of the site is around 70 × l00 m with
a plateau slightly sloping to the west and northeast. The south and north slopes
are very steep. On the east side the slope looks like a ramp running down to a
10 m deep “saddle” in the bedrock. This was certainly the natural way of entering
the site. The highest point is 457.24 m above sea-level.
Tell el-Fukhar was included in Professor Siegfried Mittmann’s survey,
13). There are a few visible structures on the surface. On the
north, west and south sides runs a thin solid wall built with offsets and insets.
The exact date of this has not yet been figured out but we suggest that it surrounded
the Hellenistic settlement. Some cisterns have been nicely cut into bedrock
on the south slope, on a level of 435.88 m. Even so there is an abundant
supply of water about 250 m southeast of the site. The nearest neigbouhring
site is Tell Umm er-Rijlen to the south; about two kms to the north is a concentration
of ancient settlements with Khirbet er-Rahub as the center. Just west of
the wadi is the EB III site Khirbet Zeraqon. Large fields around the sites are
convenient for cultivation.
A grid with 5-meter coordinates was laid out on the top of the tell and
designated Areas A, B, C, D. We started to dig in the last three areas. The
intentions of the expedition were primarily to investigate the eventual Iron
age remains and to find the gate area which we suggested was on the northeast
side. Here in Area B appeared after only two days of digging well laid
stone pavements. But the youngest one, connected with a stone wall laid directly
on washed in, hard clay and broken mudbrick, belonged to the Iron I
A/B period, around 1050 B.C. In Square C IId it was followed by another
pavement furnished with a column made of reused circular stones and an ash
pit. Although fragmentary we suggested the installation to have been a
Pillared building. Two sherds of a so called Collared rim jar were also found
in the debris. Pottery dated the pavement and the house to LB IIB/Iron I.
Three other stone pavements, numbered 1, 8 and 9, were laid in the LB I period.
On pavement 8 a scarab of late Hyksos-type was found and dated to
around 1600 B.C.
The walls had been robbed but the line of wall B3, as well as pavement 1
had been reused in the LB II period when the fortification wall, B2, was built.
This is the most spectacular structure in Area B. It runs east-west and is built
up of large boulders with cobble chinking. Its width is about 1.50 m and it is
preserved to a height of 2.30 m. The nearest parallels are the Bronze Age walls
at Tell Irbid and Tell Balatah. This wall and wall B3 are bonded and seem to
have made a corner of a fortress resting on LB I traditions.

RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
The areas C and D on the plateau of the site offered mostly installations
of Hellenistic period. Although intrusions had been done in modern times in
form of graves (according to oral tradition originating from a fight between
bedawins and townsmen in 1931) a nicely cobbled floor of a courtyard running
up to two walls was found in Area C and could be definitely dated to
the Hellenistic period thanks to a find of a coin of Ptolemy III (245-221 B.C.).
Walls and floor were laid on fill belonging to the Iron II C period. Below the
walls of the Hellenistic period, Iron II C was represented by two oval cisterns
with nicely dressed stones. The cisterns are about 2 m deep with a diameter
of about 1.20-50 m.
Typical for all excavated areas are the tumbles of heavy hard clay evidently
washed in over the site. The name Tell el-Fukhar has to be translated, The Site
of Pottery, so we expected to find kilns or other signs of pottery making. Yet
nothing but the hard clay speaks for such a theory.
The three areas so far show an unexpected picture of occupation. The earliest
evidence dates to EB II-III (around 2700-2300 B.C.) in form of sherds
found in fill and on the surface. Following a gap of several hundred years, the
site was re-occupied at the beginning of the Late Bronze Age (around
1550 B.C.). LB I contexts have been excavated in Area B and Chocolate-on-
White and other distinctive pottery is well represented in the fills. The section
of the fortification wall clearly belongs to LB II. The series of stone pavements
are typical foroccupation but there is a gap of about 400-500 years in Iron
II A-B. This gap was the most surprising result of the season and a bit frustrating
for us as we wanted to find structures from just this period. Only three
sherds of redpolished ware were found on the surface.
2. Citadelle d’Amman 1991 - Troisième Terrasse (Pls. 62-63)
Magnus Ottosson
Uppsala University
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 503
l’appareil attestent plusieurs restaurations.
Si l’on prolongeait
504
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 505
On pourrait

After many former visits and explorations by M. Lindner including the first
excavation ever performed at Sabra in 1982, the ancient site south of Petra was
thorougly surveyed in May 1990. The expedition was directed by M. Lindner
and J.P. Zeitler . Dr. Ghazi Bisheh, Director General of the Department of Antiquities
of Jordan must be thanked for the permission to survey and for his genuine
detected already in 1989 (LA 39, 1989) was explored. According to J.P. Zeitler ,
the lithic finds were Early Bronze as well as the pottery sherds and the grinding
plates at the site. Due to winterly spates the original soil has been washed away
and, thus, no true stratigraphy could be established. The discovery will be
analyzed in context with other EB finds in the region, especially with the es-
Sadeh settlement farther south (LA 39, 1989).
Together with I. Künne as botanist, the mountains around the hellenistic
town of Sabra were surveyed. Ancient quarries were found at 850 m (asl) with
the backwalls incised in the well-known Nabataean herringbone pattern. There
is quite a lot of Haematite but no copper or copper ore. Wadi walls high up in
the mountains prevented spates in antiquity. Also high up in the mountains,
agriculturally used “plantations” were installed. Interestingly, there were no
young Juniperus trees and very rarely a young pistaccio. The ever-present goats
seem to prevent new trees from growing.
For the first time, the so-called acropolis hill of Sabra was thoroughly inspected.
The already known finds of iron and copper slag were confirmed as
well as the fact that slag was imbedded in the foundation of the artificial platform
in front of the hill. With the help of several soundings, part of the
groundplan of a temple including some of its stylistic cnaracteristics could be
revealed. As already shown before (M. Lindner ed., Petra – Neue Ausgrabungen
und Entdeckungen 1986, p. 158-169), the buildings of Sabra rival with
the architecture of Petra in style and beauty.
As by-product, several lithic sites were discovered. They will be examined
in due course together with H.G. Gebel.
4. Khirbet edh-Dharih 1991 (Pls. 66-67)
Khirbet edh-Dharih is located on the road between Kerak and Tafileh, at the
confluence of the wadi el-La’ban and wadi Sharheh, about 20 km to the north
of Tafileh.
Archaeological remains from the classical periods are found on the eastern
bank of wadi el-La’ban, while some chipped stone tools were collected from
both sides of the wadi, which indicates an early occupation. It should be emphasized
that this area is particularly well supplied with water and has a great
agricultural potential.
The site was first recognized in 1818 by Irby and Mangles and was later
visited by Brunnow and Domaszewski. Glueck gave a brief account on the
temple as well as B. MacDonald during the wadi el-Hasa survey.
Three seasons of excavations were conducted in 1984, 1985, and 1987 by
the French Institute of Archaeology (IFAPO) and the Department of Antiquities
of Jordan, headed by Dr. François Villeneuve and Dr. Zeidoun Al-Muheisen.
The 1991 campaign was held from May 27th to July 19th. The project was
carried out by a joint team from the Institute of Archaeology & Anthropology
(Yarmouk University) and the French institute directed by Dr. Z. Al-Muheisen
and Dr. F. Villeneuve in cooperation with the Jordanian Department of
Antiquities. Research continued on the structures that were already recognized
in the past seasons viz the temple, the so called rectangular foundation, the
cemetery and the oil-press. New units were also surveyed.
The Temple
Research focused on three areas: the cella, the temenos and the eastern side.
The cella is one of the best preserved parts of the temple. It consists of a
columned square room, built of large well trimmed stones decorated with stucco.
The room is surrounded by a narrow lobby, on the eastern side of which
a small access leading to the lower level was located. This level includes two
vaulted rooms which support the paved floor of the cella. Two stone basins
were found there with a fragment of a Nabatean lamp dated to the 1st century
A.D.
Three soundings were carried out in the temenos area. Two at the southeast
side and the third near the eastern wall. The first soundings revealed the
presence of walls and diggings allowed to reach the temenos floor where ashes
and burnt wood were found. The last finds can be related to the destruction of
the temple. The main entrance with its lintel was also uncovered. It appears that
this passage was partially closed in the Byzantine period and only one small
opening was left. This one was finally closed in the Early Islamic period when
the whole structure was reused as a residential unit.

RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
The eastern sounding needed much work given the presence of large fallen
stones. One of them was identified as part of a lintel decorated with geometric
and floral motives. A wall found under the stones could be the eastern wall of
the temple. The main aim of this research was to test the possibility of an access
to the rectangular foundation and other nearby buildings. However more
work is needed to justify this hypothesis.
The Rectangular Foundation
Excavations during the previous seasons revealed the presence of walls built of
large well-trimmed stones. These remains belong to the lower level of a
building measuring about 21 m × 15 m. This level includes several rooms
which are located around a pillared central space. Only three of them have been
cleared. The whole structure was intended for supporting the upper storey but
was also used for storage purposes as indicated by the fragments of jars found
in the rooms’ floor. All the collected material suggest a continous occupation
from the Nabatean times at the latest (end of the 1st century B.C.) up to the
late Roman period.
The Oil-press
A rectangular unit built of large stone blocks with a paved floor was uncovered
near the inhabited area. The structure which was identified as an oil-press
included a circular grinder in the central hall and two presses in the lateral
rooms. During the last campaigns, the clearing of a robber's hole made it possible
to collect pottery sherds from the Edomite, Persian, Hellenistic and
Nabatean periods. Two soundings were also carried out. The first one revealed
to the North - East side a thick wall built of untrimmed stones dating to the late
Islamic period. A room built in the same way was also uncovered on the eastern
side of the press.
Nabatean House
The house is located to the east of the oil-press in a area where many scattered
stones were found. Clearing the stones revealed the presence of walls
belonging to a Nabatean house built of large limestone blocks. Two rooms
each one include four pillars which supported the slabs of the ceiling and
possibly a second level. There is no pillar in the third room, this one being a
later addition. In the middle room a basin containing pottery sherds was
found.
Tombs
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 509
During the first seasons, many pit-graves dating to various periods were found
on the southern bank of wadi Sharheh. Only one important Nabatean funerary
monument was uncovered in the cemetery. The lower part consist of six shafts,
each one including five burials. In the 1991 campaign, further investigations
carried out in this area were disappointing but excavations in the northern side
of Wadi Sharheh brought to light two Nabatean graves. The first tomb
contained a wooden coffin surrounded by limestone blocks. The surprisingly
good preservation of the coffin can provide valuable information as such finds
are rare, on account of the usual damages provoked by humidity. Two
skeletons, a male and female were found inside the coffin with associated
material such as bronze, wooden bracelets, necklaces etc. The second grave
contains the skeleton of a youth with no material.
Further excavations are planned for the coming years especially in the
Rectangular Foundation area which must be fully cleared. The study of this
structure is of particular interest to assess the part played by the site of Khirbet
edh-Dharih: being an economic center rather than a mere agricultural
settlement.
5. Khirbet es-Samra 1991 (Pl. 68)
F. Villeneuve – Z. al-Muhaisen
I.F.A.P.O. – Yarmouk University
510
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
L’amoncellement
de pierres non taillées ne laissait pas attendre un monument de qualité;
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 511
512
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 513
soudaine. Les sols chaulés contenaient quelques tessons écrasés qui les datent;
514
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
Excavations at Yasileh were resumed in the period from 28.6 to 15.8.91. The
project was conducted by the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the
Yarmouk University headed by the Author in cooperation with the Department
of Antiquities of Jordan.
The aim of this fourth season was to complete the excavations in the
administrative building and the area of the wine press which lies in area B. New
installations were brought to light in the Northern port of the site. A summary
of the most important results is below:
Church B
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 515
A first church (A) was uncovered during the campaigns held in 1988 and 1989.
In the 1991 season soundings conducted in the Northern area brought to
light a new church (B). The south eastern area was first identified, then the
whole structure was cleared. It is a basilica type church with three naves and
an apse. The main entrance, located on the western side, gives access to a
rectangular hall running North - South. The floor is paved with well trimmed
stones of large size
This hall is connected with the naves by three doors, each door leads to
one aisle. There is also a door in the southern part of the hall leading to some
rooms added to the church. These rooms might have been used as dwellings
for some religious men. The floor of the naves are paved with mosaics
including geometrical motives in addition to floral and animal drawings. These
floors were destroyed due to some earthquakes. In later periods this site was
used as a cemetery.
The most significant thing discovered in this church was the Greek
inscription on the mosaic floor in front of the apse. This inscription is
considered a very important one in the Northern part of Jordan especially since
it dates the building of the church to September 518 A.D. Another important
note is that the church was reused in the Islamic periods but probably for
administrative purposes.
The Public Buildings
Excavations in Area B started in 1989 and continued in 1990. In the 1991
campaign the building was fully cleared. It has a rectangular shape of l9 m ×
95. Some walls are preserved to a height of about 2 m.
The building consists of five rooms: three large rooms connected to each
other through doors in the western part of the building, and two rooms in the
eastern part.
Room I. The main entrance which is on the southern wall leads directly to
room I. This room is the most important of the whole structure and measures
7,5 m × 5 m. The western wall is built with a semi circular outstanding shape.
On the Northern wall a door leads to room 11. Given its plan and dimensions
this room probably served as a reception hall.
Room II. This lies to the north of the room I and measures 4.70 m × 3.70
m. An access is located in the western wall and leads outside the building. A
second door, in the northern wall gives access to room III.
Room III. This room has a trapezoid shape and its dimensions are about
3.30 m × 2.70/3.40 m. Walls are badly damaged as many stones have been
taken from the site.
516
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
Room IV. This room measures 4.40 m × 1.70 m. - As no access was found,
the room was probably connected with the upper storey by means of a wooden
ladder and intended for storage purposes.
Room V. The dimensions of this slightly trapezoid room are about 2,40 m
probably 4.10/3.60 m. No door was located so the room must have been used
like the previous room.
It appears from the preliminary studies regarding this structure that it was
not a residence, given the lack of remains indicating such a use. Most probably
this building had a public function. Much care was paid to its construction as
the area was dug and the soil removed in order to reach the bedrock. This one
was cut on the western and south western sides so that all the surface was
flattened. The blocks belonging to the houses are laid upon 10 cm widen
foundations. The blocks are cut limestone, a material widely available in this
area, and set according to the header stretcher technique. The inner parts are
filled with small size stones mixed with cement. All these remarks, as well as
the plan of the rooms lV and V clearly indicates that there was an upper story.
Moreover many stones bearing the same stone cutters marks were found in the
walls of church A.
Two floors were identified, one on the bedrock and the second on the same
level than the foundations. The thickness of these floors range between 5-15
cm and consist of joint pieces of limestone and sand.
The building technique as well as the pottery found in the foundation level
allow us to date the structure to the end of the Late Hellenistic period.
The Wine-Press
To the east of the public building, excavations have revealed during the second
season (1981) a unit (cave A) including two storage rooms, as well as cisterns
and water channels which had been in use through the Roman and Byzantine
periods. The cave was partially closed and re-used for domestic purposes in the
Early Islamic period.
In the 1990 and 1991 campaigns two units (caves C and D) connected
with the cave A were uncovered and cleared. They consist of several
treading floors, vats and water cisterns. Coins and material found in the
layers covering the installations indicate that the press was not used after
the end of the third century A.D. Pottery sherds from the Roman and
Byzantine periods were collected as well as material related to grape and
wine processing (bill-hook).Tesserae were also found which might suggest
than a mosaic floor was laid inside the basins. This wine press is at present
one of the most important discovered in the Bilad esh Sham area. The
number of coins found inside the caves are clear evidence of the importance
of Yasileh in wine trading.
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 517
Some soundings conducted in the northern part of the site have brought to
light remains of domestic structures which are dated to the Roman, Byzantine
and Islamic periods. The cleaning of this area would allow assessment of the
extent and planning of the site.
7. Excavations at the monastery of Saint Lot at Deir ‘Ain ‘Abata
(Pls. 70-71)
The third season of excavations at Deir ‘Ain ‘Abata were conducted from
September to November 1991 under the direction of K. D. Politis. The main
objective – to reveal the entire mosaic floor and associated building – was
completed and surpassed expectations.
A basilica-church was discovered with three apses, one main one and two
smaller ones, all well preserved to a complete height where the vaulted dome
began above the cornice. Altough the western part of the church had collapsed
down slope, this eastern section survived in good condition because it was
actually built into the mountain side. There was no evidence of an earthquake
or burnt destruction of the building. Instead, it seems that the roof, walls and
columns slowly collapsed from the natural pressure of the mountain and the
effects of rain.
Three mosaic floors were uncovered which were adorned by geometric,
floral and animal depictions. Each had a Byzantine-Greek inscription. The first
had the words TELOS KALON (= Good end) within a cross just below the altar.
This wish, which may be translated as a wish for our last days on earth to be good
ones, is unique. A second inscription in front of the chancel is six lines long and
lists names of officials associated with the church ending with a date of
construction, May 691 A. D. The last inscription is found in front of the entrance
to the cave in the north aisle. It is enclosed by a tabula ansata and is four lines
long, naming the Bishop and Aboot of the time and dated April 606 A. D.
The cave (which is believed to be the cave where Lot and his daughters lived
after their escape from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorah) found at the end
of the north aisle was cleared and contained a tomb which was not excavated. In
two sondages approximately 55 cm deep, we discovered lamps and glass
belonging to the fifth-to-sixth centuries A.D. These could be paralleled to lamps
and glass found in the domestic courtyard last year, and contrast with the finds
on the surface of all the mosaic floors which were Abassid.
The evidence of earlier pottery below the mosaic floor, along with a
number of re-used sandstone architectural blocks, some with inscriptions, and
two apparent walls also below the mosaic floor lead to the conclusion that there

is an earlier church on the same spot. Excavation of this will be the main
priority during the next field season scheduled for autumn 1992.
After the end of the excavation season in 1991, preliminary conservation
work was done on the building and mosaic floor. A permanent exhibition of
the finds was also set up in the Museum at Kerak Castle.
8. Madaba.
negli anni 1979-1985.
parte dell’abitazione bizantina.
Infatti i
angoli occidentali.
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
9. Madaba.
d’Italia a Amman, Dott.
a chiusura dell’EXPO.

11. Sesta campagna a Umm er-Rasas – Kastron Mefaa (tavv. 77-78)
abbiamo iniziata l’indagine all’esterno concentrata in facciata, con

524
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
foglie a cuore.
muratura.
solo in parte leggibile.
ricordati nell’ultima linea dell’iscrizione dedicatoria.

RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 527
Lewis - M.D. Gibson, Palestinian Syriac Lectionary
soit ]°h mn „/©[.

RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
(voir A. Grohman,
Arabic Papyri from Ôirbet el-Mird, Louvain - Leuven 1963, Abdullah el-
Azzeh, The Ôal∆ul Inscription 55 H./ 674 A. D. The Oldest Islamic Inscription
in Palestine, Ramallah 1990).
RELAZIONI DELLE SPEDIZIONI ARCHEOLOGICHE 529
57 (1935), p. 9, n°4, figure 5, C. H. Kraeling, Gerasa, New Haven 1938, p.

4 Inscription christo-palestinienne
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
On lit
tardive.
ADAJ, Annual of the Department of Antiquities of Jordan XXXV. Amman
I periodi archeologici
dell’antica Rabbat Ammon, (Archaeological Survey of Greater Amman, Phase
1, pp. 361-395).
Agency for International Development) durerà ancora parecchi anni, e solo
iscrizioni, gioielli, prodotti artistici antichi e recenti ecc.

introduzione generale all’eredità storica e artistica della Giordania.
anche di tutta l’area europea (pp. VII-VIII): “As a result of this historical
pattern, Jordanian culture today is a cumulative repository of successive
human traditions, practices and beliefs that must be measured in millennia.
The close human ties between the people of Jordan and Palestine lie at the
heart of that tradition, and can be appreciated in the embroidery and
ethnographic objects in this exibition”.
Franken, W. Kawar,
B. Mershen, A. Millard, G. Philip, M. Piccirillo e F. Zayadine. Ciascuno presenta
Troviamo esposte pietre preziose, alabastri,
vasi finissimi e oggetti ornamentali di avorio o di vetro, come pure gioielli
d’oro e d’argento (pp. 86-108). M. Piccirillo presenta i mosaici della Giordania,
fermandosi sulle maggiori “scuole” di mosaico dell’epoca bizantina,
Jerash e Madaba (pp. 109-132).

(W. en-Natuf e Monte Carmelo).
I capitoli 2-6
(pp. 115-122).
H. Thompson presenta in un unico volume alcuni aspetti specifici dell’archeologia
giordana. Presenta rapporti di scavo e alcuni studi propri, insieme a
contributi di altri autori. Il volume è diviso in tre parti principali: A. The Towers
and Artifacts, pp. 201-276. Nella prima parte sono raccolti alcuni studi
relativi agli scavi di Rujm el-Malfuf, Rujm el-Mekheizin e Kh. el-Hajjar. Questi
all’ipotesi di datazione in base all’epigrafia e al contenuto dell’iscrizione (ca.

ritrovamento, distruzione e recupero dell’iscrizione.
K.P. Jackson e J.A. Dearman (pp. 93-95) propongono una lettura del testo
dell’iscrizione in caratteri ebraici. K.P. Jackson (pp. 96-130) riassume le caratteristiche
linguistiche dell’iscrizione (filologia e morfologia) basandosi sugli
studi di S. Segert, Die Sprache der moabitischen Königsinschrift, ArOr
29(1961): 197-261 e di W.R. Garr, Dialect Geography of Syria-Palestine, 1000-
586 B.C.E., Philadelphia 1985.
Miller, The Mesha Stela as a Memorial
Divide i testi
Fakhariyeh, e altre iscrizioni in sumero, fenicio, aramaico, assiro e neo-assiro.
15 secoli, è caratterizzato dai seguenti elementi: nome dell’oggetto dedicato,
L’AT mette in correlazione
538
RICERCA IN GIORDANIA
In entrambi i casi,
dell’interpretazione storica dell’iscrizione stessa.
La prima ipotesi era sostenuta da J. Liver, The Wars of Mesha, King of
Moab, PEQ 99(1967): 14-31.
nell’iscrizione moabita) sarebbe stata patteggiata.

israelitica accanto a popolazione moabita.
Mancano
ancora dati relativi a questioni importanti come i templi, i sacerdoti, i sacrifici,
Empire Rediscovered, Garden City 1981; F. Israel, Studi Moabiti II: Da Kamiå
a Kemoå, SMSR 53(1987): 5-39).

pure: dka-me-iå) è preservata in Ger 48,7.
Poi seguono con discreta presenza i periodi
Bizantino, Ommayyade, Ayyubide e Mamelucco.
In alcuni sigilli
In Egitto è associato a
relative all’arte nabatea. L’affermazione lapidaria di Strabone sulla natura
non figurativa dell’arte nabatea (“sculture, pitture e immagini plasmate non
542
Petra e in altri siti nabatei?
Fino a far scrivere all’Autore
aramaico in greco e latino.
“Aerial Photographic Archive for Archaeology in the Middle East”, in Liber
in senso largo dalla costa atlantica del Nord Africa all’Arabia Saudita, all’Iran
qanats come a Yotbatha nell’Wadi Arabah.
dall’Eufrate.
Bosra al-Sham, Balad Sinjar, Lejjoun e Udruh in Giordania, Palmira e
Kennedy in modo molto pragmatico divide questi forti in
Large Forts senza torri esterne, in Small Forts senza torri esterne, e in Large e
