As the name already suggests the Forum Square is positioned to
the upper angle of the Forum and beside the highest platform of the
Temple (fig. 5).
The appearance of some remains of the old facade and the foundations
of the cryptoportico allow us to reconstruct their trace and even
to their original level.
The different types of pavement show us the position of each space:
the esplanade of the Forum, the cryptoportico and the exterior space
of the three platforms.
Respecting the current topography and with the appearance of the
original Roman levels, forced us to design the ramps and the steps
so that they would resolve circulation and at the same time explain
the differences, making that Roman reality more understandable.
This allows us to preserve the remains found and to integrate them
into the new paving.
In Santa Anna Street the alignment of the travertine pavement of the
cryptoportico contrasts with that of the current facades, where excavations
and the foundations of the Praetorium Tower confirmed to
us the original level that was found about 40 cm. under the current
street level.
Where other streets meet Santa Anna Street we can make the original
depth of this portico obvious by extending and widening the
area of travertine paving.
