If we wanted our proposal to be realistic and possible, the answers<br />

had to be clear and precise, avoiding singular and personal projects<br />

and looking for a common language that allowed the concurrence of<br />

different professionals in a process of implantation that was foreseen<br />

to be an on-going project.<br />

Our limit was the urban public space that was specified in some<br />

streets and squares, where the Administration wanted a new pavement<br />

and urban layout.<br />

Moreover we wanted to turn these interventions into a readable<br />

project, an open book, that chronicles the Part Alta, and if possible<br />

being able to establish an open and flexible method, capable<br />

of incorporating any new discovery, whose readability was simple<br />

and immediate for any citizen, tourist or user of those urban places.<br />

We understood then that the area of our work would be level zero<br />

of the topography; this was understood as the flat surface defined by<br />

the street level.<br />

Above this level already known archaeological remains would<br />

emerge and at the same time, below this level, we had to have the<br />

capacity to make evident any new archaeological discovery or any<br />

outline of the Roman city that turned up.<br />

We focused all the efforts of our work on the pavement, with the<br />

selection of a specific criterion whose implementation was that each<br />

part or each platform of the Roman legacy was to be made evident.<br />

By selecting different types of stone for each layer and with each layer<br />
