Unità di ricerca di Torino Abstract Like most Italian regions, Piemonte has a widespread archaeological heritage, but it can’t attract many visitors neither convey great resources. The Research Unit of Turin is doing an overview of the current state of the archaeological musealization in the region. In recent times, the situation has a good trend, and several recurrences can be identified. Today there are many traditional museums of archaeology (that eradicate the finds from their original places), and every town has got some. The situation of archaeological sites is different, and more difficult. Sometimes the movable heritage has been saved in the museum, and the site has been restored to previous situation (e.g. the necropolis of Ornavasso), sometimes the site is open without a true project (e.g. Industria), and sometimes you can really see some museographical interventions (e.g. Bene Vagienna). In other cases, the sites are arranged as “archaeological park”, but this type (even if covered by specific legislation) is still very inclusive and heterogeneous (see the different cases of Bardonecchia, Mercurago and Turin). Finally, we can find many sites organized in “network” (e.g. the Valle di Susa). In addition, there are recurrent cases (in Italy) that are worth deepening: the superposition of worship buildings on an early Christian core, where are created underground paths and diocesan museums, without interfering with the ongoing liturgical destination. A separate subject is the coverage in situ, to protect remains particularly important or fragile: as many cases show, these solutions not only deaden the perception of the site or the museological communication, but also do not respond to conservation requirements that generated them. The situation in Piemonte, in the positive evolution and very careful to preserving, is now in need of a stronger impulse into museographic measures, to ensure more captivating visit experience. 252

Orientamenti della CEI (Ufficio Nazionale per i Beni Culturali Ecclesiastici); è membro del comitato di redazione della rivista «Nuova Museologia Agraria». È autore di numerose pubblicazioni sui temi della museografia (con riferimento ai musei di arte e di arte sacra, alla musealizzazione dei contesti antichi, all’utilizzo delle nuove tecnologie di comunicazione nel museo contemporaneo). 253
