Abstract
The themes developed in the Research Unit of the Politecnico di
Milano concern the material culture of the territory, interpreted as
part of a more general «archeology of memory» that affects all ages
with specific reference to the theoretical concept of «archeology of
knowledge» developed by Michel Foucault in his well known writings.
A culture that is identified in different aspects of archaeological heritage,
here referred to a wider sense, from antiquity to the present age,
which is the subject of attention in a dynamic phenomenology of
transformations. An attitude that expresses a careful attention to the
preservation and understanding of a multifaceted memory and identity,
and to the recognition of the role of the many archaeologies in
the realization of future social assets. This can be accomplished by a
museographical and cultural redesign of those spaces and those artifacts
cut off the circuit of production. The institution of the museum
serves as a fertile strategy, as a promoter of a sensitive and careful design
in compartments in which the local historical and architectural
values deserve to be interpreted as cognitive moments of our way of
life and to live and inhabit the environment that surrounds us.

Dipartimento di Progettazione dell’Architettura, Politecnico di Milano. È docente
di Museografia e membro del collegio del dottorato di ricerca in Architettura degli
Interni; direttore del Master universitario «IDEA in Exhibition design_Architettura
dell’esporre»; direttore del Workshop internazionale «Premio Piranesi-Villa Adriana»
a Tivoli; membro del Comitato scientifico delle conferenze internazionali IFW-
Interiors Forum World; membro del comitato scientifico della rivista «Exporre» e
della collana di Museografia della casa editrice Edifir, consulente della rivista «Area».
