TIFICIAL. The more “natural” land-use/land-cover classes (e.g., FOREST and PASTURE) were<br />

found mostly in the mountain areas, where most of the changes occurred.<br />

Comparing MLC1960 and CLC1990, AGRICULTURE, FOREST, BARREN, ARTIFICIAL, and WA-<br />

TER were the classes that showed the greater stab<strong>il</strong>ity (all of them remained unchanged for more<br />

than 50% of their extent; Tab. 1); all other classes were stable for less than 35%. Notable are<br />

the changes occurred to PASTURE, with high percentage of change towards AGRICULTURE,<br />

HETEROGENEOUS and FOREST in particular, and to HETEROGENEOUS, with high percentage<br />

of changes towards AGRICULTURE and FOREST.<br />

Comparing CLC1990 and CLC2000, all land-use/land-cover classes remained stable for more<br />

than 56% of their extent (Tab. 2). The most important changes occurred to PASTURE (mainly
