cards affermandosi come
fenomeno quasi “viral”: il suo
successo è immediato e globale e, a
differenza di quanto accaduto sino
ad allora, assolutamente
svincolato da
cartoon e licenze, che
p a r t i r a n n o
solo in un
secondo tempo.
Sino al giugno
2009 la property
viene gestita in
Europa da Jetix, ma
società da parte di
Disney spinge Vooz a trasferire la
gestione di Pucca per il mercato
EMEA a Warner Bros. Consumer
Products, che già ne curava i diritti
in America Latina e Stati Uniti.
Il debutto ufficiale della nuova
master license è avvenuto in
novembre al Kazachok Licensing
Forum, mentre nel licensee
meeting di gennaio Warner presenterà
la grande novità ai licenziatari.
A Maurizio Distefano, General
Manager WBCP Italy, Switzerland
and Agent Markets, chiediamo
qualche anticipazione sul futuro
della property.
Kazachok: Cosa rappresenta Pucca
per WBCP?
Maurizio Distefano: «Si
tratta di un’opportunità
strategica per due ragioni.
Innanzitutto per il posizionamento:
Pucca si
rivolge alle
teenager e alle
giovani donne
fashion oriented,
un target chiaro,
nitido, dai 13 ai
Pucca loves Garu,
but marries Warner
A cult character born on the net for an adult female
target, Pucca is all geared to become a fashion icon
on the Italian market. Kazachok talks to Maurizio
Distefano, WBCP General Manager, who has held the
master licensee on the property since last October
Young, ironic and rebellious, Pucca embodies girls in
the third millennium, expressing her personality
through thoroughly modern graphics, which are evoca-
tive of emoticons. And she has a unique pedigree in the
universe of characters. Created in 1999 by the Korean
company Vooz, she began life as an online e-card
service. Global success came swiftly, independently of
cartoons and licenses which only took off later. Until
June 2009 the property was managed in Europe by
Jetix, but when the company was bought by Disney,
Vooz transferred EMEA management to Warner Bros
Consumer Products, which already managed the rights
in South America and the United States.
The official debut of the new master license took place
in November at the Italian Kazachok Licensing Forum,
while a licensee meeting in January is scheduled to
present it to licensees. We asked Maurizio Distefano,
WBCP General Manager for Italy, Switzerland and
Agent Markets for a few details.
Kazachok: What does Pucca represent for WBCP?
Maurizio Distefano: “It’s a strategic opportunity for 2
reasons. First because of the market position: Pucca
targets fashion-oriented teenagers and their older
sisters, a market we currently reach only in part with
Tweety. Secondly Pucca has the potential to become a
fashion icon on the Italian market, perfect for fashion
and accessories, but also for social stationery and
home and publishing accessories, which are strategic
in this age range”.
