On the one hand, there are entrepreneurs who, figures in hand, speak of a fall in orders both in Italy and abroad. They curse
the IMU and the scene they foresee doesn’t look too bright. In fact, it appears more akin to the depression of 2008-2009 than
to the recovered, albeit ephemeral, splendor witnessed in the first nine months of 2011. On the other hand, there are those who
analyze these numbers, lining them up in a chart in an attempt to explain them. It’s not a bowl of cherries certainly, yet, Italy
still remains a country capable of keeping its spot among the top five most competitive, productive nations in the world. And
since the calm always comes before the storm, let’s discuss a few things that simply aren’t going well.
One: It is true that orders have declined in Italy’s various textile districts, sometimes falling by double-digit percentages. After
a period of relative tranquility, the recourse for redundancy payments has reached extremely high values. In the same way,
companies have begun closing again.
Two: Industrials and artisans have joined forces in protesting against the payment of IMU, which, in their opinion, treats
warehouses the same as villas by the seaside /lakeside or in the hills. In addition to the signatures gathered, Industrial Unions
and trade unions have generated open letters. Aliquots vary from municipality to municipality and the payment deadline for the
first installment has passed, yet the issue is far from closed.
Three: exports remain steadfast, especially in a few sectors linked to excellence or textile machinery. Nonetheless, the global
crisis is casting its first shadows on the shipping of Italian products abroad. Itma 2001 is an emblematic case in point: it opened
in Barcelona following trimesters of economic growth linked to the textile-clothing sector. The event was characterized by

nove mesi del 2011.
Dall’altro c’è chi i numeri li analizza, li mette in tabella e li spiega, dicendo che sì, non tutto è rose e fiori, ma l’Italia resta sempre un
Paese in grado di figurare tra i cinque più produttivi o competitivi al mondo.
Siccome il sereno arriva prima della tempesta parliamo prima delle tre-quattro cose che non vanno.
Uno: gli ordini nei vari distretti tessili italiani in effetti sono calati, talvolta anche con percentuali in doppia cifra. Dopo un periodo di
relativa tranquillità il ricorso alla cassa integrazione è tornato su valori alti così come sono riprese le chiusure delle aziende.
Due: gli industriali e gli artigiani sono accomunati nella protesta per il pagamento dell’IMU che, secondo loro, rende i capannoni uguali
alle ville in riva al mare, al lago o in collina. Tra raccolte di firme, lettere aperte di Unioni Industriale e associazioni di categoria,
aliquote che variano da Comune a Comune è trascorso il termine per il pagamento della prima rata e la questione è tutt’altro che chiusa.
Tre: l’export tiene, soprattutto in alcuni settori legati all’eccellenza o al meccanotessile, ma la crisi globale sta gettando le prime ombre
anche nell’invio all’estero dei prodotti italiani.
Emblematico il caso di Itma 2001: si aprì a Barcellona ai margini dei trimestri di crescita dell’economia legata al tessileabbigliamento,
fece registrare molto interesse per i macchinari ma alla fine non tutto si concretizzò perchè al momento di fare gli ordini il
