What is your idea of the future of fashion? In my opinion, fashion, especially Italian fashion, should look back and go back to its roots, to the time when the only goal was to create without being conditioned by sales figures. That’s what made fashion lose its magic.. and without magic there is nothing left. Your children Rachele, Daniele, Cristiana and Tommaso work with you. How do you see their future? I decided to have them join the business to keep them close forever. Each of them has a different role, according to their skills, and I’m sure they will make me very happy. Rachele helps me out with women’s accessories, Cristiana takes care of the Cavalli Club development projects and hospitality business in Italy and throughout the world, Daniele has been dealing with menswear for three years. It’s so nice to see how much passion and commitment he pours into his job. Tommaso is in charge of the Tenuta degli Dei Wine and Roberto Cavalli Vodka business. If you had not been a fashion designer, then what? An architect, no doubt. I spent so much time on my Roberto Cavalli Home, designing furniture and furnishing objects filled with pieces of my life and journeys. True luxury is? Being forever faithful to one’s DNA. The future lies in rediscovering no-logo quality. We should go back to our roots, to what made the “Made in Italy” great in the first place, even if that implies giving up big sales figures. Ha una idea sul futuro della moda? La moda, soprattutto quella italiana, a mio parere dovrebbe guardare indietro e tornare alle origini quando l’unico obiettivo era creare senza farsi condizionare dall’urgenza di vendere ad ogni costo. Concetto che le ha fatto perdere la magia …e senza quella non c’è nulla. Nella sua azienda lavorano anche i suoi figli Rachele, Daniele, Cristiana e Tommaso. Come vede il loro futuro? Ho voluto coinvolgere i miei figli nel mio lavoro, forse anche per averli sempre vicino a me. Ognuno ha un ruolo che si è ritagliato per le sue capacità e sono sicuro che mi riserveranno delle grosse sorprese. Rachele mi aiuta nella parte dedicata agli accessori donna. Cristiana si occupa dei progetti di sviluppo dei Cavalli Club ed Hospitality in Italia ed in giro per il mondo. Daniele da ormai tre anni mi aiuta per la parte relativa all’uomo. E’ bello vedere quanta passione e dedizione ha per il lavoro. Tommaso segue la parte relativa al vino Tenuta degli Dei e alla Roberto Cavalli Vodka. Se non avesse fatto il lavoro che ha fatto cosa avrebbe voluto fare? Avrei fatto sicuramente l’architetto… Mi sono dedicato alla creazione della mia Roberto Cavalli Home, progettando arredi e complementi eclettici e pieni di tracce della mia vita e dei miei viaggi. Il vero lusso è? La capacità di rimanere sempre fedele al proprio DNA…. Penso che il futuro sia nella riscoperta della qualità che non ha bisogno del logo. Dovremmo tornare alle radici, a quel che ha fatto grande il Made in Italy nel mondo. Anche a costo di rinunciare ai grandi numeri. interviews 35
