Kenai è un irruente e testardo giovane cacciatore inuit. Messosi sulle tracce
di un orso che aveva causato la morte di suo fratello Sitka, Kenai esce vincitore
dallo scontro con l’animale, quand’ecco che, sulla cima di un promontorio,
lo spirito del fratello morto gli appare e lo trasforma egli stesso in un
orso. È questa la punizione perché Kenai impari ad amare e a rispettare la
natura in tutte le sue forme. Credendolo morto, Denhai, il terzo dei fratelli, si
mette sulle tracce dell’orso che crede averlo ucciso, non sapendo che esso è in
realtà lo stesso Kenai. Il giovane cacciatore trasformato in orso, parte quindi
per un lungo viaggio verso la montagna “dove le luci toccano la terra”. Solo
lassù potrà tornare ad essere un uomo. È durante questo viaggio che Kenai
incontrerà il piccolo orsetto Koda che lo accompagnerà verso la montagna
e diventerà suo amico. Ancora non sa, il piccolo Koda, che Kenai è il cacciatore
che aveva ucciso sua madre. Quando lo saprà fuggirà da lui e Kenai
raggiungerà la montagna da solo. Lassù incontrerà di nuovo Denahi che,
avendolo inseguito fi no a là, tenterà di ucciderlo. Sarà il piccolo Koda a salvargli
la vita, prima che lo spirito di Sitka lo trasformi di nuovo in un uomo.
Kenai is a young, impetuous and stubborn Inuit hunter. On the trail of a bear
that caused the death of his brother, Sitka, Kenai wins his battle with the animal
when out of nowhere, on the peak of a promontory, the spirit of his dead
brother appears and transforms Kenai into a bear. Th is punishment serves to
teach Kenai to love and respect Nature in all its forms. Believing he is dead,
the third brother, Denhai, goes looking for the bear who he believes killed Kenai,
not knowing that he is actually Kenai himself. And so, the young hunter,
transformed into a bear, departs on a long voyage toward the mountain
“where the lights touch the earth”. Only up there can he return to his human
form. It is during this trip that Kenai encounters the little bear Koda, who will
accompany him toward the mountain and become his friend. Koda does not
know that Kenai is the hunter who killed his mother. When he discovers this,
he fl ees from Kenai, who reaches the mountain alone. Up there he will again
meet Denahi who, having followed him to the top, will attempt to kill him.
Little Koda will save his life, before the spirit of Sitka transforms him, once
again, into a man.
Aaron Blaise, Robert Walker
Aaron Blaise è nato a Burlington, nel Vermont,
ha studiato alla Ringling School of Art and Design
coltivando fi n da giovane la speranza di
entrare nel team Disney, cosa che gli è riuscita
nel 1988. Da allora lavora come assistente e poi
come regista di fi lm di animazione. Brother Bear
è il suo fi lm di esordio fi rmato insieme con Robert
Walker, giovane regista televisivo anch’egli
esordiente nella regia di fi lm di animazione.
Aaron Blaise was born in Burlington, Vermont,
where he studied at the Ringling School of Art
and Design. From an early age he hoped to become
part of the Disney team, and succeeded
in doing so in 1988. Since then he has worked
as an assistant and then a director of animated
fi lms. Brother Bear is his fi rst fi lm with Robert
Walker, a young television director who, with
Koda, has also directed his fi rst animated fi lm.
