in Alto Adige<br />
Genius Loci - Th e Spirit of Place in South Tirol<br />
Secondo i fi losofi dell’antichità le sorgenti, i boschi e i monti<br />
possedevano tutti degli spiriti tutelari. Il genius loci era un’entità<br />
metafi sica, viva e sensibile. La quintessenza di un territorio o di<br />
una persona. Questa è un’indagine e un’operazione di ascolto<br />
per cercare di scoprire lo spirito del luogo dell’Alto Adige, terra<br />
di appartenenze diverse e di frontiere nascoste. Per gli italiani<br />
l’estremo nord <strong>della</strong> penisola, per gli austriaci il basso Tirolo.<br />
According to the ancient philosophers, the springs, the woods,<br />
and the mountains commanded all of the tutelary spirits. Th e<br />
genius loci was a metaphysical entity, sensitive and alive, the<br />
quintessence of a territory or of a person. Th is fi lm explores and<br />
listens carefully in an attempt to discover the spirit of the place<br />
that is the Alto Adige, or South Tyrol, a land belonging to various<br />
peoples and with hidden borders. For Italians, it is the extreme<br />
north of the peninsula, while for Austrians it is the lower Tyrol.<br />

membro dell’Associazione Italiana<br />
per le Scienze Etno-antropologiche.<br />
È autore di documentari per RAI 3 e<br />
di una serie televisiva girata in Centroamerica.<br />
Luciano Stoffella (1964),<br />
dopo gli studi alla Scuola di Cinema<br />
e Televisione ZeLIG di Bolzano si<br />
dedica prevalentemente al montaggio,<br />
anche ad uso didattico, e allo<br />
sviluppo indipendente di progetti.<br />
Duccio Canestrini (1956) teaches<br />
anthropology of tourism as well as<br />
fi lm and photography in Lucca and<br />
is a member of the Italian Association<br />
for Ethno-Anthropological Sciences.<br />
He has written documentaries<br />
for RAI 3 as well as a television<br />
series fi lmed in Central America.<br />
Following his studies at the Scuola<br />
di Cinema e Televisione ZeLIG in<br />
Bolzano, Luciano Stoffella (1964),<br />
has devoted his energies above all<br />
to fi lm editing, which he has also<br />
taught, and to the development of<br />
