Ogni inverno, la stazione sciistica di Ifrane, sulle montagne del Marocco,
ospita migliaia di turisti che salgono lassù per la pratica degli sport invernali.
Ifrane è considerata la capitale del turismo invernale del Marocco. Costruita
durante la colonizzazione francese negli anni Venti del secolo scorso, viene
chiamata “la Piccola Svizzera” per i suoi chalet in stile alpino. A meno di dieci
chilometri di distanza da Ifrane, nel villaggio di Afakfak, la gente vive in
estrema povertà, dentro modeste e fredde case circondate, d’inverno, da un
terreno ghiacciato o melmoso. Isamil ha 5 anni. Anche lui, come i turisti che
aff ollano Ifrane, aspetta la neve. Non l’aspetta però per andare a sciare o per
divertirsi, come fanno molti altri bambini della sua età: la neve per Isamil e
per la sua famiglia rappresenta una fonte di reddito fondamentale. Di tutto
ciò i turisti di Ifrane non si rendono conto o non sanno nulla. Il documentario
intende dare voce a Isamil e a tutti i bambini, come lui, dei dimenticati
villaggi del Marocco.
Every winter the ski resort of Ifrane, in the Moroccan mountains, hosts thousands
of tourists who go up there to practice winter sports. Ifrane is considered
the capital of winter tourism in Morocco. Built during the period of French
colonization in the 1920s, it is called “little Switzerland”, because of its chalets
in Alpine style. Less than ten kilometres away, in the small village of Afakfak,
people live in extreme poverty in modest, cold houses surrounded, in winter,
by frozen or muddy terrain. Isamil is fi ve years old. He too, like the tourists
who crowd into Ifrane, is waiting for the snow. But he doesn’t await it to go
skiing or have fun, as do many other children his age. Snow, for Isamil and for
his family, represents an important source of income. Yet the tourists in Ifrane
know nothing of this. Th is documentary strives to give voice to Isamil and to
all of the children like him in the forgotten villages of Morocco.

Nato nel 1983, ha scoperto la sua passione
per la fotografi a all’età di 16 anni. Da allora
ha affrontato diverse esperienze professionali,
lavorando come fotoreporter per numerose
organizzazioni internazionali, tra cui l’agenzia di
stampa olandese ANP e il giornale Al Jarida Al
Oula. Attualmente lavora per il principale quotidiano
del Marocco, Al Massae.
Born in 1983, he discovered his passion for
photography at age sixteen. Since then, he
has undertaken various professional challenges
while working as a photojournalist for numerous
international organizations including the Dutch
news agency, ANP, and the newspaper Al Jarida
Al Oula. At present he works for Morocco’s
main newspaper, Al Massae.
