Nello Zanskar, nel cuore delle montagne più alte del mondo, sulle rive di un
fi ume gelato, vive, isolata in un inverno senza fi ne, Dolma con la sua famiglia.
Si prega, si beve dello tchang, ci si aiuta gli uni con gli altri, si cammina
nella neve o sul ghiaccio. Il tempo sembra essersi fermato. A 180 chilometri
di distanza, di là di quel fi ume che può essere attraversato soltanto d’inverno,
quando è ghiacciato, il marito di Dolma, Stanzin, vive in un altro mondo.
Guida le carovane su sentieri pericolosi e sogna di diventare cantante.
Lungo le stagioni il loro destino è legato a quel fi ume che li separa e allo
stesso tempo li unisce. Per rivedere Dolma e i suoi bambini, Stanzin deve
aff rontare il gelo, la tempesta, i demoni del fi ume ma soprattutto i miraggi
del mondo moderno. I registi accompagnano Dolma lungo la vita di tutti i
giorni di una piccola comunità dell’Himalaya, con le nascite, i matrimoni,
l’amicizia, il lavoro…
In Zanskar, in the heart of the highest mountains in the world, on the banks of
a frozen river, Dolma and her family live, isolated, in an endless winter. Th ey
pray, drink tchang, help each other, and walk on snow or ice. Time seems to
stand still. 180 kilometres away, on the other side of the river that can only be
crossed in winter, when frozen, Dolma’s husband, Stanzin, lives in another
world. He drives the caravans up dangerous paths and dreams of becoming a
singer. Th roughout the season, their destiny is linked to that river, that both
separates and unites them. To see Dolma and his children, Stanzin must face
the frost, storms, and the river demons, but above all the mirages of the modern
world. Th e directors accompany Dolma in the routines of daily life in a
small Himalayan community, with its births, weddings, friendships, and work.
Anne, Véronique, Erik Lapied
Anne (1959) e Erik Lapied (1954) iniziano la loro
carriera come fotografi , per diventare poi documentaristi
e, come loro stessi si defi niscono,
«cineasti di montagna». I loro fi lm sono dedicati
all’ambiente, agli animali e agli uomini che vivono
in montagna, e sono girati in Francia ma
anche nel Grande Nord, in Africa e in Himalaya.
Nel 2003 si aggiunge a loro Véronique (1982)
per un documentario in Himalaya.
Anne (1959) and Erik Lapied (1954) began their
career as photographers, and later became
documentarists and, as they defi ne themselves,
“mountain fi lmmakers”. Their fi lms deal with the
mountain environment, animals, and the people
who live there, and are fi lmed in France, but also
in northern Europe, Africa, and the Himalayas.
In 2003, their daughter Véronique (1982) joined
them for a documentary in the Himalayas.
