Ushguli è un piccolo villaggio situato nella regione caucasica di Svaneti, nel
nord-ovest della Georgia, uno degli angoli più belli di quel paese, lontano dal
mondo moderno, digitale ed “elettronico”. Con i suoi 2200 metri di altitudine,
è uno dei villaggi popolati più alti in Europa, e per questo è diventato
patrimonio dell’Unesco. Nell’agosto del 2009 a Ushguli viene organizzata,
per gli abitanti del villaggio, la proiezione speciale di un fi lm all’aperto. Tra
lo stupore degli abitanti, un grande schermo cinematografi co si staglia nel
verde della valle. Ma cosa succede quando le persone dimenticano per un
attimo la loro maschera pubblica e sociale? Che cosa esprime il volto umano
quando rifl ette delle immagini in movimento? Il cinema stesso è un rifl esso.
Anarekli cerca di “rifl ettere il rifl esso”. I visi degli abitanti di Ushguli, grandi
e bambini, incantati davanti allo schermo, fanno scoprire ancora una volta il
magico potere del cinema.
Ushguli is a small village in the Caucasian region of Svaneti, in northwestern
Georgia. It is one of the most beautiful corners of the country, far from the
modern digital and “electronic” world. With its 2.200 metres in altitude, it is
one of the highest-elevation populated villages in Europe, and for this reason
became a Unesco World Heritage Site. In August, 2009, in Ushguli, a special
outdoor screening of a fi lm was organized for the village residents. Th e huge
fi lm screen, placed in the midst of the green valley, evoked the inhabitants
wonder. But what happens when, for a moment, they forget their public and
social masks? What does the human face express when it refl ects the images
in motion? Cinema itself is a refl ection. Anarekli attempts to “refl ect the refl
ection”. Th e faces of the inhabitants of Ushguli, adults and children alike,
enchanted in front of the screen, once again show us the magical power of the
cinema.
Giorgi Mrevlishvili
Nato a Tbilisi nel 1983, si è laureato in Scienze
Umane e Giornalismo Internazionale alla Ivane
Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Dopo aver
partecipato a numerosi workshop dedicati alla
regia del fi lm documentario, ha lavorato come
giornalista e regista per diverse emittenti televisive.
Nel 2009, con il progetto del fi lm Anarekli,
partecipa al prestigioso Berlinale Talent Campus
e al Berlin Today Award.
Born in Tbilisi in 1983, he earned a degree in
humanities and international journalism from
the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
After participating in numerous workshops on
documentary fi lm directing, he worked as a
journalist and director for various television
stations. In 2009, with the fi lm Anarekli, he
participated in the prestigious Berlinale Talent
Campus and the Berlin Today Award.
