Siamo a Baracco, piccola frazione di Roccaforte Mondovì, sulle Alpi Occidentali
del sud del Piemonte. È qui, dove si parla ancora il kyè, una variante
linguistica del provenzale alpino, che un gruppo di amici decide di rivivere
l’epopea dei vecchi buscatiè, i boscaioli. Vestiti come un tempo, e utilizzando
soltanto gli attrezzi di allora, grazie all’aiuto e all’esperienza di Barba Ninu,
l’ultimo dei grandi buscatiè di quei monti, partono per il bosco, nei colori
dell’autunno. L’abbattimento dei faggi e dei castagni, l’allestimento della
piazzola di lancio (in alto) e del battente (in basso), il trasporto e la tensione
della pesante fune d’acciaio con il tornio di legno costruito sul posto: tutto è
eseguito come una volta, senza l’aiuto di mezzi meccanici. Viene l’inverno e
porta con sé tanta neve. È tempo di tornare lassù, in una giornata di sole. Al
grido «A la vita!», il legname viene lanciato e sfreccia veloce, sibilando, sulla
fune per poi schiantarsi a valle. Saranno le slitte a portare la legna giù, fi no al
paese, scendendo i ripidi costoni della Valle Ellero.
We are in Baracco, a small division of Roccaforte Mondovì, in the western
Alps in the southern part of the Piedmont region. Here, where kyè, a linguistic
variant of the Provençal Alpine language is still spoken, a group of friends
decides to relive the era of the old buscatiè, or woodcutters. Dressed in period
clothes and using only the tools of the time, thanks to the help and experience
of Barba Ninu, the last of the great buscatiè of these mountains, they depart
for the woods, dressed in the colours of autumn. Th e felling of the beech and
chestnut trees, the setting up of the launching piazza (above) and the arrival
point (below), the transportation and the tension of the heavy steel cords with
the wooden lathe built on site: all is carried out as it once was, without the
aid of mechanical means. Winter comes and with it comes snow. It is time
to go back up there, on a sunny day. With the cry “A la vita!”, the timber is
launched and sails quickly, hissing, on the rope before it lands below. Th e
sleds will transport the wood down the steep ridges of the Ellero valley, and to
the town.

Sandro Gastinelli e Marzia Pellegrino vivono a
Rosbella di Boves, sulle montagne del Cuneese.
Nel 1990 hanno fondato la Studiouno Produzioni
Televisive. Con il fi lm Parla de Kyè hanno
iniziato la loro attività di produzione e direzione
di fi lm e documentari dedicati alla vita sulle loro
montagne. Nel 2008 Marzia Pellegrino, con
Unaza fort, fi rma il suo primo documentario
come regista. Insieme sono i direttori artistici
della sezione cinematografi ca del Festival della
Montagna di Cuneo.
Sandro Gastinelli and Marzia Pellegrino live in
Rosbella di Boves, in the mountains of Cuneo.
In 1990 they founded Studiouno Produzioni
Televisive. With the fi lm, Parla de Kyè, they began
producing and directing fi lms and documentaries
about their mountains. In 2008 Marzia
Pellegrino directed her fi rst documentary,
Unaza fort. They are the co-artistic directors of
the fi lm section of the Festival della Montagna
in Cuneo.
