Vineyards on the Rocks<br />
“Cinque sono i motivi per bere: l’arrivo di un amico, la bontà<br />
del vino, la sete presente e quella che verrà, e qualunque altro”.<br />
Le rupi del vino, sul versante retico <strong>della</strong> Valtellina, sono i terrazzamenti<br />
abbarbicati sui pendii delle montagne, ancora oggi<br />
ricavati con il lavoro manuale, secondo una tradizione che risale<br />
al 1400. È lì che crescono i vitigni da cui nascono i vini <strong>della</strong><br />
Valtellina. Ermanno Olmi torna al documentario e intraprende<br />
un viaggio tra valli, rupi, tradizioni e cultura.<br />
“Th e are fi ve reasons to drink: the arrival of a friend, good wine,<br />
the thirst you feel and that to come, and any other.” Th e vineyards<br />
on the rocks, on the northern side of the Valtellina, are<br />
the remote terraces on mountain slopes still fashioned today by<br />
manual labour, according to a tradition that dates to 1400. Th ere<br />
grow the grapevines from which the wines of the Valtellina are<br />
made. Ermanno Olmi turns to documentary and embarks on a<br />
voyage among the valleys, slopes, tradition, and culture.<br />

Nato a Bergamo nel 1931, è consacrato<br />
tra i grandi del cinema italiano<br />
con la vittoria <strong>della</strong> Palma d’Oro al<br />
<strong>Festival</strong> di Cannes nel 1978 con L’albero<br />
degli zoccoli, il primo di una<br />
lunga carriera di prestigiosi riconoscimenti<br />
internazionali. Dagli anni<br />
Ottanta si trasferisce sull’Altopiano<br />
di Asiago dove vive tuttora in una<br />
casa al margine del bosco, di fronte<br />
a quella di Mario Rigoni Stern.<br />
