producers have (especially in Italy) of
preparing films in a hurry; and an
inadeguate or inconent initial concept
doesn't help the various departments in
their exchange of knowledge,
communication and further researching
of the film; the truth of the matter is
that we collaborators often have an
atavisitic tendency to try and grow too
much individually within the film.
And yet, how much research, which
could be of benefit to everyone, is
carried out by a "limb" of the
hypothetical "body"; how much
inspiration we could draw from
another's KNOWLEDGE; how much
information could circulate more freely,
to streamline and make our work more
complete; how much time we could
spend together, exchanging experiences
and w'eu>s, confessing emotions and
transforming the Vernal monologue,
the word that singularly defines us:
Script, Set, Costumes, Photography,
Editing, Music etc., into a dialogue
which would better unite the single
creative elements and result in the
formation of a more complete "body",
a more complete FILM. On the other
hand, the Legislator hasn't helped to
promote greater collaboration between
the various departments, by his
exercising a certain degree of
discrimination and only recognizing
some of the people who contribute to
the CONCEPTION, REALIZATION
and COMPLETION of a
cinematographic work.
If the cinematographic COPYRIGHT
LAW were to be amended to extend its
recognition to all the Co-authors who
have a right to the paternity of their
individual "work" within the joint
work that is the FILM, it would result
in their being recognized in a more just
and responsible way and having equal
rights, which would, undoubtedly,
inspire greater collaborations between
us. The Annual, part from representing
us in all our light and shade, is also
something which we owe to our work,
something which allows us to express
our opinions and get to know each
other better. Getting to know each
other better, means being more free to
express ourselves through all the
different creative elements that go to
make up a group: in a specific SPACE,
in a specific period of TIME, in a
specific WAY, in that complete whole
known as the IMAGE. A SPACE, like
that of the photogram, which provides
us with an area where we can express
what we feel, what we think and what
we hope for. A period of TIME, like
that necessary for an exposure, which
invites us to recount our experiences:
past, present and why not, that which
we hope to experience in the future!
A WAY, like that in which a
particular image is etched into the
emulsion by our creativity, which will
inspire us to say what we want to
change and how we would like change
it. There is, therefore, a WHITE page
in this Annual just waiting to be
coloured with our THOUGHTS,
FEELING and IDEAS. Good Luck.
