DANILO DESIDERI
In questo fotogramma del film
"32 dicembre del 1988" lo spazio
è stato equamente diviso in due
zone: sullo sfondo abbiamo
Socrate con i discepoli e in
primo piano le due concubine
addormentate. Niente di più
difficile che girare un film in
costume: anche Ben Hur a
guardarlo con cattiveria sembra
fatto di cartapesta. L'unico
modo quindi di uscirne era usare,
e forse anche abusare, di colori
caldi per evidenziare l'impronta
napoletana del regista Luciano
De Crescenzo. Tra l'altro il tema
(la relatività del tempo) era un
continuo invito a esagerare sia
nelle luci, che nel dosaggio come
nel contrasto. Tre episodi a
disposizione e tre diverse
soluzioni estetiche: grottesca, nel
racconto di Socrate, solare, in
quello della nonna che scappa di
casa per andare a Capri, e infine
buia e malinconica, nel finale
comico-patetico dei fuochi di
mezzanotte.
In this photogram from the film, the
space has been divided into two equal
parts: the background with Socrates
and his disciples, and the foreground
with the concubines asleep. There is
nothing more difficult than shooting a
film in costume — even the images of
"BEN HUR", if we look at them
somewhat unkindly seem to have been
created from papier màché. Therefore,
the only solution was to use, and
perhaps even misures, warm colours
which reflected the neapolitan director,
Luciano De Crescendo's personality.
Amongst other things, the theme (the
relativity of time) was a continual
temptation to exaggerate both with the
lighting and the contrast.
There were three different episodes to
work on, each requiring a different
aesthetic solution: a grotesque effect
for the story about Socrates; a
brilliant, sunlit effect for the episode
featuring the grandmother who ran off
to Capri; and, finally, a dark,
melancholy effect for the tragi-comic
episode about New Year's Eve
fireworks.
