sale cinematografiche servite da
satellite. In sintesi si tratta di
teatri muniti di teleproiettore
che viene sottoposto a
programmi inviati dall'etere e
precedentemente acquistati
dall'esercente.
I vantaggi
economico-organizzativi sono
evidenti: non più personale
For some time now, there has been a rumour that cinemas will soon be
showing films transmitted via satellite. What this actually means is
cinemas equipped with a teleprojector that will receive transmitted
programs that have been previously acquired by the Exhibitor.
The economic and administrative advantages are obvious: no more
personnel (apart from those involved in the economic management of the
cinema), no more worrying about poor quality prints or their arriving
late, no more checking technical equipment and, consequently, no more
technical hitches; insteadfilms shown as punctually as the news
appears on television, and a cinema that virtually runs itself.
Nevertheless, the quality of the image, will always leave something to be
desired, however high the definition! Everything depends, in fact, on how
the public accepts the system but, unfortunately, the public will accept
anything if they are not given a choice.
Up until recently, cinemas operating with satellites seemed like
something out of science fiction, but now it looks as if it is about to
become a reality. In fact, a large financial group is in the process of
setting up a cinema circuit, which in the beginning will be used for
giving films their second showing, but via satellite and, therefore, more
cheaply.
So, what's the answer?
Obviously, there is once more a need to offer the public an alternative,
give them real cinemas that don't merely provide consumer product of
average quality, but which are equipped to offer first class Cinema:
important films, rich in imagery, well-made, well-printed and properly
projected The ideal solution would be to use the big gauge film
(8 perforations, 70 m/m etc.). However, it is also true that cinema
audiences have enjoyed and appreciated 35 m/m film for years! If the

difettose, trasporti in ritardo,
controlli tecnici e, di
conseguenza, disguidi, ma
puntualità estrema nel servizio e
facilità operativa.
Quanto alla qualità
dell'immagine, essa lascerà
sempre a desiderare, malgrado le
alte o altissime definizioni. Tutto
dipenderà dall'adattamento del
pubblico che, se non avrà
alternative, si adeguerà sempre a
qualsiasi trista condizione.
Questo, che fino a qualche
tempo fa sembrava un sogno
fantascientifico, pare ora
divenire realtà. Un gruppo
finanziario importante infatti sta
mettendo a punto qualche cosa
del genere: un circuito di sale,
che dovrebbe, per ora,
comprendere soltanto seconde
visioni, servite da satellite e per
ciò a buon mercato.
E allora?
Allora una volta di più appare
evidente la necessità di
approntare sale di spettacolo
alternative, dove non si vedano
solo i film di consumo e in un
qualche modo, ma si assista a un
vero spettacolo cinematografico di
classe, con film di prestigio
ricchi di immagini ben riprese,
ben stampate e meglio proiettate.
L'ideale sarebbe ricorrere ai
grandi formati (8 perforazioni,
70 mm., ecc.). Ma dopotutto per
anni il pubblico ha apprezzato
anche il 35 mm. E con un buon
sonoro e una proiezione come si
deve, nitida e su di uno schermo
veramente buono, anche lo
spettatore più esigente può venir
ricondotto al cinema.
La proposta viene girata agli
esercenti.

image on a really white screen, even the most demanding viewer can be
won back to the Cinema!
It is certainly something that should be proposed to Exhibitors.
