1992: a deadline that's causing Italian businessmen to lose a lot of sleep.
And in the cinema business, this same deadline is causing people double
the worry, as they not only have to face the unknown future of '92, but face
it in a state of crisis that shows no signs of lifting.
The golden period, when our Cinema was considered to be the finest in
the world, is over. We've lived on the income from those years for a long
time but, even so, we have not succeeded in remaining the best in
Europe.
The crisis that besets our Cinema is neither technical nor structural: we
'92 : una scadenza che fa
trascorrere le notti insonni a
tutti gli operatori economici
italiani. Nel nostro settore,
quello cinematografico, tale
scadenza fa tremare
doppiamente. All'incognita
futura del 1992 si somma la crisi
stagnante.
I bei tempi quando il nostro
cinema era il primo del mondo
sono passati. Si è vissuto molto
anche con la rendita di quegli
anni, ma ciononostante non
siamo riusciti a mantenere
nemmeno il primato in Europa.
La crisi non è né tecnica né di
strutture: abbiamo registi validi,
tecnici che tutti ci invidiano e
strutture adeguate. Quali la cura
e la convalescenza per trovarci
preparati (o quasi) alla fatidica
data?
Produrre, produrre, produrre!
Sia per il piccolo che per il
grande schermo realizzando così
una gran quantità di film che
provocherà stimoli per il
consumo interno dando più
possibilità di far emergere nuove
idee e nuovi talenti da far uscire
oltre i confini italici.

What then is the cure that has to be effected for our Cinema to be ina
position (or almost) to face the fateful '92?
Produce, produce, produce! Both for the small and large screen, thus
producing a vast quantity of films that will stimulate the consumption of
national product, and make it more possible for new ideas and talents to
emerge that can be exported!
