R Ciao, Mario !
"Le deux seasons de
la vie"
Ricordo, tra le tantissime
esperienze vissute assieme,
quella avuta in Belgio durante le
riprese del film "Le deux sesons
de la vie" con quanta facilità ci
permettesti di realizzare una
difficile sequenza, fatta tutta di
velocissimi carrelli
all'inseguimento, per dettagli, su
gambe di adolescenti in fuga in
terreni scoscesi.
Sempre quel sorriso che ti
illuminava il viso.
Sempre quegli occhi espressivi e
gioiosi.
Sempre quella straordinaria
voglia di collaborare.
Sempre lo stesso entusiasmo
Amongst the many experiences we've shared together, I especially
remember the time in Belgium during the shooting of the film "Les deucc
saisons de la vie", how easy you made it for us, Mario, to effect a difficult
sequence composed entirely of extrememly swift CRAB dolly shots, with
the camera chasing a group of young teenagers (in detail on their legs)
as they fled downhill, across uneven ground!
Always that smile that lit up your face-
Always those expressive eyes that sparkled so happily...
Always that extraordinary desire to collaborate...
Always that same wonderful enthusiasm...
Always more loyal, always more sincere — something so rare.
It was while I was filming a series of T.V. commercials with Nanni Loy,
that I met Mario Monti: supreme master of his trade, 1.80 mts. tall, one
blue eye and one green, always elegantly dressed, and always ready to
shoot whatever we had to film (especially when there was a lack of
equipment) with truly impressive fantasy.
And we've been collaborating now for about 18 years!
So, it really is "Hi, Mario"!
By rights, I should have written this article for the first edition of our
Annual: yes, I should have reminded everyone (and by everyone, I mean
the people in front of the camera, as well as those behind it) how much it
means to we Directors of Photography, to have technicians around us who
give so generously of their professional experience, that they even make
us feel protected!
In an editorial written by Pino Bertucci which appeared in "Luci, Dolly
& Magia", (the trimonthly magazine published by the "Associazione
Italiana Maestranze Cinematografiche") I read a phrase which bothered
me a great deal: "When you enter a studio, you leave everything outside,
della prima volta.
Sempre più con quella lealtà e
sincerità rara.
E mentre facevo una serie di
"Caroselli", con Nanni Loy, che
ho conosciuto Mario Monti.
Impeccabile maestro del suo
lavoro, un'occhio azzurro l'altro
verde, 1 metro e 80, sempre
elegante e sempre pronto a
eseguire qualsiasi realizzazione
(soprattutto quando i mezzi
scarseggiavano) con una
augusta fantasia.
Totale 18 anni circa di
collaborazione.
Si, ciao Mario!
Avrei dovuto scrivere questo
articolo per il primo numero del
nostro Annuario; sì, avrei dovuto
ricordare a tutti (e per tutti
intendo quelli che stanno sia
davanti che dietro la macchina
da presa) cosa vuol dire per noi
direttori della fotografia sentirsi
protetti dalla prodigalità con cui
"donano" la loro esperienza
professionale, le nostre
maestranze.
Su "Luci Dolly & Magia"
(trimestrale della Associazione
Italiana Maestranze
Cinematografiche) nell'editoriale
firmato da Pino Bertucci, ho
letto una frase che mi ha colpito
molto:
"Entri in teatro e lasci fuori tutto
dietro di te, soggettività e
proporzione. Nella busta paga
sono sottointesi, ma non c'è cifra
per qualunquismo,
omologazione, ricatto, egoismo,
perdita di identità; ma che
importa, tu l'attore lo puoi
toccare!"
A me personalmente, Pino
Pinori, addolora molto pensare
che possono esistere situazioni
in cui questi nostri fantastici
collaboratori debbano
rinunciare totalmente al loro io.
Ma per fortuna, dice anche
Bertucci, "La prodigalità con cui
elargiamo la nostra esperienza
dovrà pesare di più sia in
professionalità, sia in una
conquistata idea di qualità di
vita".
Essere e tempo, sì caro Mario;
"Essere e Tempo" è anche il
titolo di un libro del 1929 del
filosofo tedesco Martin
Heidegger il quale mostra il
primato di vedere anche in tempi
in cui "il cinema" non esisteva
considerando le tesi di Aristotele
e Parmenide:
Il conoscere è partire dal
"piacere di vedere"
"La cura del vedere è essenziale
all'essere dell'uomo".
"L'essere è ciò che si manifesta
alla visione intuitiva pura: solo
questo vedere scopre l'essere" e
insieme a te, Mario, ho molto
visto e molto sono stato.
Ciao Mario!
including your subjectivity and validity as a person. Your pay packet
may take into consideration the superficiality, homologization,
blackmail, egoism and loss of identity, but no amount of money can ever
compensate for these; however, what does it matter, you get to see the
stars!"
Personally, it pains me very deeply that our fantastic collaborators find
themselves in situations which deprive them of their identity.
Thank God, Bertucci also has the insight to comment: "The generosity
with which we communicate our experience, should not only have
greater significance professionally, but also in relation to what we have
achieved in life".
Being and time, my dear Mario.
"Being and Time" is also the title of a book, written by the German
philospher, Martin Heidegger who, inspired by the theories of Aristotle
and Parmenides, demonstrated the supreme importance of "seeing", even
before the "cinema" existed
"Knowing begins with the 'pleasure of seeing' ".
"The cultivation of 'seeing' is essential to man's being"
"Pure, intuitive vision generates being: it is only this form of 'seeing' that
permits man to be"... And, together with you, Mario, I've seen a great deal,
and been a great deal.
Bye, Mario!
