4.1.3 QoS overview<br />
Nel seguente sottoparagrafo, si vuole descrivere la QoS garantita<br />
rispettivamente dalla due reti: WiFi, ed UMTS. Privilegiare la QoS offerta<br />
all’utente è un importante aspetto da trattare soprattutto nella prospettiva <strong>di</strong><br />
una <strong>in</strong>tegrazione tra le due tecnologie wireless; pertanto l’<strong>in</strong>tero stu<strong>di</strong>o si<br />
pone come prima esigenza la QoS da offrire all’utente. Mostreremo pertanto<br />
<strong>in</strong> breve quali sono gli aspetti peculiari della rete UMTS e della rete WiFi <strong>in</strong><br />
term<strong>in</strong>i <strong>di</strong> QoS supportata.<br />
La qualità del servizio nella rete UMTS:<br />
I servizi <strong>di</strong> rete end-to-end (tra due term<strong>in</strong>ali) sono caratterizzati da una certa<br />
Qualità <strong>di</strong> Servizio (Quality of Service-QoS) che viene fornita all’utente, il<br />
quale ne avrà comunque una percezione personale. Per fornire una data<br />
QoS <strong>di</strong> rete è necessario stabilire un servizio <strong>di</strong> trasporto (bearer service) con<br />
caratteristiche e funzionalità ben def<strong>in</strong>ite, dalla sorgente alla dest<strong>in</strong>azione del<br />
servizio.<br />
Quando vengono def<strong>in</strong>ite le classi <strong>di</strong> QoS per il sistema UMTS si deve tenere<br />
conto delle restrizioni e delle limitazioni derivate dall’<strong>in</strong>terfaccia ra<strong>di</strong>o. I<br />
meccanismi <strong>di</strong> QoS che devono essere forniti a un sistema <strong>di</strong> reti cellulari<br />
devono essere robusti e capaci <strong>di</strong> offrire, allo stesso tempo, una risoluzione<br />
ragionevole.<br />
