SOMMARIO<br />
La <strong>di</strong>ssipazione dell’energia delle onde avviene nella zona <strong>costiera</strong> pr<strong>in</strong>cipalmente per frangimento. La<br />
rappresentazione delle onde nella surf zone richiede un modello accurato <strong>di</strong> frangimento per poter<br />
prevedere l’andamento delle altezze d’onda nel profilo trasversale quando il fondo è ondulato per la<br />
<strong>presenza</strong> <strong>di</strong> barre. Anche la progettazione delle opere longitud<strong>in</strong>ali <strong>di</strong> <strong>di</strong>fesa della costa è f<strong>in</strong>alizzata<br />
all’abbattimento dell’energia delle onde per frangimento sulle <strong>strutture</strong>. Le scogliere sommerse,<br />
ampiamente utlizzate negli ultimi anni come metodo <strong>di</strong> protezione della costa, <strong>in</strong>fluenzano fortemente<br />
l’<strong>idrod<strong>in</strong>amica</strong> <strong>costiera</strong>; <strong>in</strong>ducono <strong>in</strong>fatti una circolazione caratterizzata da correnti verso costa al <strong>di</strong><br />
sopra delle <strong>strutture</strong> ed <strong>in</strong>tense correnti verso mare (i.e. rip currents) <strong>in</strong> corrispondenza dei varchi tra le<br />
scogliere sommerse stesse (ve<strong>di</strong> pannello <strong>di</strong> s<strong>in</strong>istra della fig.1). Tale andamento della circolazione è<br />
determ<strong>in</strong>ato dal gra<strong>di</strong>ente <strong>di</strong> setup <strong>in</strong>dotto dal frangimento <strong>di</strong>fferenziale che si verifica sulle <strong>strutture</strong><br />
(i.e. circolazione primaria) e vic<strong>in</strong>o alla riva (i.e. circolazione secondaria). Rip currents ed erosioni<br />
localizzate sono i limiti più <strong>di</strong>ffusamente osservati per le scogliere sommerse realizzate.<br />

Dunque sono auspicabili soluzioni alternative, che possano ridurre sia i costi <strong>di</strong> costruzione e<br />
manutenzione sia l’impatto ambientale. Nel presente lavoro si sono considerate <strong>strutture</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipative, da<br />
utilizzare nella <strong>di</strong>fesa dei litorali, <strong>in</strong> grado <strong>di</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipare gradualmente l’energia delle onde riducendo il
setup lato terra delle <strong>strutture</strong> <strong>in</strong> modo che le correnti <strong>in</strong>dotte non producano trasporto dei se<strong>di</strong>menti<br />
fuori dalla zona protetta. Queste opere potrebbero essere usate, ad esempio, a protezione dei<br />
ripascimenti artificiali. Al f<strong>in</strong>e <strong>di</strong> generare un sistema <strong>di</strong> circolazione opposto a quello che si <strong>in</strong>staura<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>presenza</strong> <strong>di</strong> scogliere sommerse, Hisamichi et al. (1996) hanno proposto una serie <strong>di</strong> <strong>strutture</strong><br />
sommerse costituite da pannelli <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ati. Sulla base dei loro risultati sperimentali, <strong>in</strong> cui l’<strong>in</strong>versione<br />
del sistema <strong>di</strong> circolazione <strong>di</strong>pende fortemente dall’attrito al fondo, si è pensato <strong>di</strong> testare<br />
numericamente un’opera alternativa costituita da <strong>strutture</strong> ad elevata sommergenza, tali da non <strong>in</strong>durre<br />
frangimento, caratterizzate da un coefficiente d’attrito superiore a quello relativo all’area circostante<br />
(ve<strong>di</strong> pannello <strong>di</strong> destra della fig. 1). Tali <strong>strutture</strong> a scabrezza elevata possono essere costituite sia da<br />
aree occupate da vegetazione, sia da manufatti artificiali da testare. Si è dunque scelto <strong>di</strong> approfon<strong>di</strong>re<br />
lo stu<strong>di</strong>o sugli effetti delle <strong>strutture</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipative, utilizzando un modello numerico <strong>di</strong> tipo shockcaptur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
che risolve le equazioni delle acque basse, Nonl<strong>in</strong>ear Shallow Water Equations NSWE<br />
(Brocch<strong>in</strong>i et al., 2001), me<strong>di</strong>e sulla profon<strong>di</strong>tà, con l’<strong>in</strong>clusione <strong>di</strong> un term<strong>in</strong>e per la simulazione dell’<br />
attrito al fondo spazialmente variabile, i.e. cf (x, y). Sono stati analizzati i risultati numerici sia <strong>in</strong><br />
term<strong>in</strong>i <strong>di</strong> trasformazione dell’altezza d’onda, che <strong>in</strong> term<strong>in</strong>i <strong>di</strong> circolazione. Simulazioni prelim<strong>in</strong>ari<br />
per la validazione del modello numerico NSWE, <strong>in</strong> term<strong>in</strong>i <strong>di</strong> trasformazione dell’altezza d’onda H,<br />
sono state effettuate utilizzando dati sperimentali, <strong>di</strong>sponibili <strong>in</strong> letteratura, relativi a prove realizzate<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>presenza</strong> <strong>di</strong> un tappeto <strong>di</strong> alghe artificiali (Lovas, 2000). Per simulare numericamente la <strong>presenza</strong> <strong>di</strong><br />
un tappeto <strong>di</strong> alghe si è utilizzato un coefficiente d’attrito al fondo pari a Cf=0.2. In figura 2, a titolo <strong>di</strong><br />
esempio, sono riportati i risultati dell’evoluzione dell’altezza d’onda relativi alle prove con H=0.125m<br />
and T=3.5s. In tutte le simulazioni numeriche, il modello numerico ha riprodotto <strong>in</strong> maniera<br />
sod<strong>di</strong>sfacente l’abbattimento dell’altezza d’onda, sia per onde frangenti, che non frangenti.<br />

Dal campo <strong>di</strong> velocità me<strong>di</strong>e, <strong>in</strong> con<strong>di</strong>zioni quasi stazionarie, mostrato <strong>in</strong> fig. 3, è <strong>in</strong>fatti evidente la<br />
<strong>presenza</strong> della rip current nel varco tra le scogliere sommerse, mentre velocità decisamente ridotte si<br />
<strong>in</strong>staurano nel caso delle <strong>strutture</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipative e comunque prevalentemente <strong>di</strong>rette verso terra,<br />
rispettivamente pannello <strong>di</strong> s<strong>in</strong>istra e <strong>di</strong> destra. Le caratteristiche ondose <strong>di</strong> <strong>in</strong>put sono caratterizzate da<br />
T=1.826s e H=0.045m, con una profon<strong>di</strong>tà dell’acqua <strong>di</strong> 0.182m. Da notare come per la<br />
configurazione delle scogliere sommerse la massima velocità offshore è pari a 0.3m/s mentre per i<br />
tappeti artificiali è più piccola <strong>di</strong> un ord<strong>in</strong>e <strong>di</strong> grandezza, cioè circa uguale a 0.03m/s. E’ evidente che<br />
<strong>in</strong> questo secondo caso non c’è formazione <strong>di</strong> rip current. .I <strong>di</strong>fferenti comportamenti idrod<strong>in</strong>amici<br />
sono strettamente legati alle caratteristiche del setup generato dalle <strong>di</strong>verse configurazioni.<br />

In figura 4 è mostrato un esempio dell’andamento longitud<strong>in</strong>ale del setup misurato per una sezione<br />
longitud<strong>in</strong>ale, lato terra delle <strong>strutture</strong>, con una profon<strong>di</strong>tà d’acqua pari a h=0.09m, per le due <strong>di</strong>verse<br />
configurazioni. Per le scogliere <strong>in</strong> batteria, il gra<strong>di</strong>ente longitud<strong>in</strong>ale del setup è notevole e tale da<br />
<strong>in</strong>durre formazione <strong>di</strong> rip (ve<strong>di</strong> fig. 3), mentre per i tappeti artificiali sia il setup che la sua variazione<br />
longitud<strong>in</strong>ale sono piccoli. In queste con<strong>di</strong>zioni la spiaggia risulta protetta.<br />

Ulteriori prove sono state effettuate per valutare l’<strong>in</strong>fluenza delle caratteristiche geometriche e delle<br />
caratteristiche ondose. Risultati prelim<strong>in</strong>ari hanno evidenziato come per altezze dv della struttura e per<br />
coefficienti <strong>di</strong> scabrezza Cf crescenti, aumenti non solo l’abbattimento <strong>di</strong> H, ma anche il valore del<br />
setup e la sua variabilità longitud<strong>in</strong>ale. Per quanto riguarda la <strong>di</strong>mensione trasversale, si è trovato che<br />
per valori <strong>di</strong> b crescenti si ha un maggiore abbattimento dell’altezza d’onda, ma comunque non si<br />
hanno <strong>in</strong>crementi apprezzabili oltre un certo limite <strong>di</strong> b/L=0.5÷1, con L=lunghezza d’onda, come<br />
mostrato <strong>in</strong> fig. 5, per <strong>di</strong>verse caratteristiche ondose <strong>di</strong> <strong>in</strong>put.<br />

I risultati numerici prelim<strong>in</strong>ari sono <strong>in</strong>coraggianti, <strong>in</strong> quanto mostrano che le <strong>strutture</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipative come<br />
<strong>di</strong>fesa <strong>costiera</strong> determ<strong>in</strong>ano una circolazione opposta a quella generata dalle scogliere sommerse (i.e.<br />
un sistema <strong>di</strong> rip currents). La pr<strong>in</strong>cipale caratteristica <strong>di</strong> queste <strong>strutture</strong> alternative è data dalla<br />
componente <strong>di</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipazione per effetto dell’attrito, legato alla <strong>presenza</strong> <strong>di</strong> un tappeto <strong>di</strong> alghe o a<br />
quella <strong>di</strong> materiali artificiali, e dunque non alla componente <strong>di</strong> <strong>di</strong>ssipazione legata al frangimento. La<br />
ricerca è ancora <strong>in</strong> fase <strong>di</strong> sviluppo; sono <strong>in</strong> corso simulazioni numeriche e sperimentali <strong>in</strong> canale che<br />
hanno lo scopo <strong>di</strong> determ<strong>in</strong>are il valore corretto del coefficiente <strong>di</strong> attrito al fondo Cf e la <strong>di</strong>sposizione<br />
planimetrica ottimale <strong>di</strong> tali <strong>strutture</strong>.
