2. Controcultura e stati alterati di coscienza
Un altro protagonista di un certo rilievo della controcultura degli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta
è lo psicanalista austriaco Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957), allievo di Freud. Stabilitosi negli USA nel
1939, è conosciuto soprattutto per la sua teoria dell’energia orgonica 120 , che lo pone indirettamente
in relazione con Sade e Bataille per l’enfasi sulla sessualità. Proprio quest’aspetto lo collega anche a
William S. Burroughs e Ballard, che condividevano una concezione della sessualità come potere
sovversivo. Reich viene a trovarsi sul crinale tra realtà e simulazione, tra scienza e fantascienza, per
quanto riguarda le sue presunte esperienze con gli alieni e gli UFO, che riteneva responsabili del
consumo dell’energia orgonica dell’atmosfera che avrebbe provocato la crescente desertizzazione
del territorio. Il fenomeno UFO fu studiato anche da Jung che sottolineò come la forma circolare dei
‘dischi volanti’ rappresentasse un ulteriore variante del simbolo del cerchio legata all’inconscio
collettivo 121 . Queste presenze fantomatiche si pongono come una delle sembianze attraverso le quali
ci si presenta l’Altro. E non c’è dubbio che questa forma di alterità rappresentata dagli UFO si
presenti come immagine sovversiva, per prendere a prestito l’espressione utilizzata da Bataille.
Sovversiva in quanto, nel caso specifico, sovverte la norma non scritta secondo la quale non
esistono altre forme di intelligenza uguali o superiori a quella umana. E quindi la comunicazione
con l’Altro che si manifesti sotto forma di tale immagine viene negata a priori come possibilità, per
essere relegata nel mondo della fantasia o dell’immaginazione 122 .
Un tempo la ghiandola pineale era considerata la sede dell’anima. Bataille sostiene che essa
sia in realtà la sede dell’‘occhio pineale’ 123 , un terzo occhio interiore ormai atrofizzato. È evidente il
