facendo riferimento a figure di cera, automi e pupazzi. Esempi di automi d’epoca, che a tale
incertezza rimandano, sono Il suonatore di flauto di Jacques de Vaucanson (1737) e Il giovane
scrittore 313 di Pierre Jacquet-Droz (c. 1770).
Anche Michel Foucault fa riferimento all’uomo-macchina in Sorvegliare e punire (1975),
sottolineandone la funzione politica, di controllo, da parte di chi detiene il potere 314 . Una visione cui
fa da contraltare quella del cyberpunk, in cui l’uomo macchina per eccellenza è il cyborg,
l’organismo cibernetico che è un vero e proprio homo superior, un’evoluzione dell’homo sapiens
sapiens, un’incarnazione futurista dell’Übermensch nitzschiano. Questo uomo versione 2.0, come
potremmo dire mutuando il linguaggio tecnologico di internet, costituisce attualmente l’ultima
frontiera dell’umanità, un ibrido uomo-macchina le cui componenti artificiali gli forniscono delle
capacità in più, come gli occhiali o le lenti a contatto nel campo della vista, per citare un esempio
ormai tanto abituale da essere perfino banale, o come gli arti artificiali prodotti dal Biomechatronics
research group diretto da Hugh Herr al MIT di Boston, resi famosi dall’atleta sudafricano Oscar
Pistorius. La prossima frontiera della scienza in questa direzione sarà l’uomo bionico, che avrà
ulteriori innesti che potrà comandare tramite impulsi cerebrali. Già oggi il Rehabilitation Institute di
Chicago, diretto da Todd Kuiken, ha realizzato un braccio bionico che funziona in questo modo.
Il pittore metafisico Giorgio de Chirico dà il suo personale contributo sul tema al
surrealismo, con le figure spettrali, i doppi e i manichini che abitano le sue tele, 315 così come fa
Hans Bellmer con le sue bambole inquietanti 316 , che abbiamo già incontrato. Esiste una bellissima
foto del 1934 di una di queste bambole, dov’è ritratto anche l’autore, che vi appare trasparente come
un fantasma, un doppio spettrale della sua creatura 317 . Nel saggio “L’Art primitif”, pubblicato sulla
