Catalogo Experimenta 06

PRESENTATION
There are many reasons why the year 2006 will be remembered, amongst these, twenty
years of Experimenta.
It came into being at Villa Gualino, on the Turin hill, when only a few people knew about interactive
scientific exhibitions addressed to the public, Experimenta was a pilot experience inspired by
an innovative pedagogical idea to learn through doing.
The success obtained at the outset, thanks to a different approach to scientific themes, was
consolidated and reinforced over time, many followed the example and acknowledged the value
as the presence of Experimenta at the Science Festival of Genoa and the SconfinataMente of
Rome demonstrate.
Absolute protagonists are the more than one hundred thousand visitors, (without distinction one
can meet children from kindergarten as well as curious pensioners) who each year venture between
the laboratories and exhibits in an enjoyable challenge, which involves the body and the mind.
The pedagogical innovation and approach to scientific themes - often derived from everyday life
- are accompanied by a far-sighted policy of management of events aimed at involving the world
of training, research and work; over time a network of internal collaboration within the regional
structure, and external to this preparatory to the realisation of a wide range project in the scientific
field, evidence of a past which has seen illustrious scientists work in Piedmont, of a present
no less abundant in innovation and research.
Experimenta has left its birth place in Villa Gualino to transfer to the banks of the River Po, in
the area of the ex-zoo, where the route of the interactive exhibition winds between the pavilions
which at one time housed tigers and hippos.
It would have been nice to have reached this birthday with a present, awaited for years, of a definitive
headquarters: we have not managed to do so; however, we re-affirm our commitment to this.
In the future we would like to see that Experimenta enlarge its activity also in other provinces
with methods and formulas to be agreed upon, without losing the capacity to learn through amusement,
to understand through action.
Everyday life poses ever more frequently faced with choices that cannot be democratically pursued
without scientific knowledge; with this knowledge Regione Piemonte intends to invest human
and financial resources over the next few years.
