Una classe allegra si inerpica fino all’ultimo
piano di una palazzina bianca. Li accoglie una
grande sala piena di attrezzi colorati e un animatore
che li introdurrà nei segreti della scienza.
Nel quartiere Lapinha, a Salvador de Bahia,
in Brasile un missionario italiano (il gesuita
padre Clodoveo Piazza) ha realizzato un’opera
particolare e unica al mondo. Accanto a una
casa famiglia per 100 bambini, una scuola di
base, un centro di formazione professionale,
corsi per adulti, officine produttive, e varie altre
opere, nel 2000 ha costruito un piccolo science
center: UNICA “Universidade da Criança e do
Adolescente”. “Col passare degli anni mi sono
reso conto”, spiega padre Piazza, “che dopo i
bisogni fondamentali occorre puntare moltissimo
sull’educazione di questi bambini. La

Besides a family house for 100 children, a basic
school, a vocational training centre, productive
workshops, courses for adults, and various
other works, in the year 2000 he has built a
small science centre: UNICA “Universidade da
Criança e do Adolescente”. “With the passing of
time, I have realised”, explains Father Piazza,
“that after the fundamental needs, one should
really aim for the education of these children,

fin da piccoli ad appassionarsi alla
fisica, alla biologia, alla chimica, alla matematica
che un giorno forse potranno diventare dei

propria e quella del proprio paese”. Questo il
senso del gemellaggio tra Experimenta e UNICA:
sostenere, grazie alla ventennale esperienza di
divulgazione del sapere scientifico maturata a
Torino, un ambizioso quanto concreto progetto
a Salvador Bahia. Un sostegno a base di knowhow,
ma anche economico: il 5% degli introiti
ricavati dai biglietti ogni anno viene offerto a
padre Piazza. Già 80 mila ragazzi bahiani hanno
potuto visitare UNICA, che presto triplicherà
la propria struttura.

one’s country”. This is the sense of the twinning
between Experimenta and UNICA to sustain,
thanks to the twenty years of years of experience
gained in Turin, an ambitious if not concrete
project in Salvador Bahia. Support in basic, but
also economic know-how: 5% of the income
earned from the sale of tickets each year is offered
to Father Piazza. Already 80,000 children
of Bahia have been able to visit UNICA, which
will soon triplicate its own structure.
