EXPERIMENTA 06 - INTORNO AL FUTURO: VIAGGIO NELLE TECNOLOGIE INVISIBILI
38
7 - DON’T BE A DUMMY! We are responsible for
90% of road accidents: how do we increase the safety
of those who travel? Today new technologies help the
driver to better control his car. Some virtual simulations
will show the dynamics of different types of
crashes and the effects on the “dummy”, the manikin
which simulates the behaviour of the human body in
a vehicle. You can then take your place on a seat with
a driving wheel and pedals and participate in the simulation
of braking, which will then be analysed and
compared with an “assisted” braking where the radar
signals to a control unit the presence of an obstacle.
8 - LIGHT AT WORK What are the new technologies
which permit a car to be built with new and
modern criteria? Play with a real robot and solder a
piece of the bodywork. You will give it instructions
and a points system will indicate your capabilities.
Don’t forget that good soldering of some structural
parts will make your car safer because it is better
able to absorb shocks.
9 - CARS TALK... WITH WHOM? The car of tomorrow
will be constantly connected to the environment
which surrounds it. Not only to help the driver
(satellite navigation) or to improve the quality of time
spent in a car (internet connections, digital radio transmissions).
Above all for travel safety (weather alarms,
accidents just occurred...) and to improve mobility
(traffic jams, alternative routes...). Thanks to a palm
computer and a network of sensors on the ground and
walls, we will participate in a “role play” in which we
will impersonate the role of “intelligent” cars, to understand
how cars interact with the environment.
10 - THE “NERVOUS” SYSTEM OF THE CAR
The last section is dedicated to electronics, the real
nervous system of the car. In a medium range car
there are about 30 computer controls, reaching 90
on more evolved cars, for a total of 400 components.
All this for safety, to optimise environmental control.
A real computer with wheels. On a backlit bench
the role of the electronics aboard is described: joint
cables/wiring (the nerves) and electronic controls
(the brain). You can act on the cards on the bench to
analyse the functions of the single components, their
position on the car and see how they can be modified
to increase the performance and reduce space.
