THE “SOLITARY WALK” IN THE PASSIONIST CONGREGATION
Philippe Plet, C.P.
This is the second part of his article published in Sap Cr, XX (2005), pp.
167-187
A point in the Passionist Constitutions which at a cursory glance might
appear of secondary importance affords our author substance for reflection
which is important in order to understand the pedagogy of the Founder of the
Passionista. These reflections go so far as to study the theme of union with
God in a delicate equilibrium between the tensions of ascesis and Tauler’s
“Gellasenheit” mysticism. Very relevant in our present day is Paul of the
Cross’ sensitivity toward nature, conceived as the privileged ambience for the
contemplation of God.
